00:00Argentine officials said they are probing the daughter of a dead Nazi and her husband
00:07after recovering an iconic painting that had been missing for 80 years.
00:13Portrait of a Lady, a masterpiece by Italian artist Giuseppe Gislandi, was looted from
00:18an Amsterdam-based art dealer during World War II.
00:22Officials on Thursday said Patricia Cadgian, daughter of former Nazi SS officer Friedrich
00:28Cadgian and her husband are under investigation for aggravated concealment.
00:33Here's federal prosecutor Carlos Martinez.
00:35The crimes that were being covered up are grave.
00:42They're linked to crimes of genocide, theft in the context of genocide and a systematic
00:48plan to appropriate works of art and jewellery perpetrated by the Nazi regime.
00:55That was what financed, in a way, the activities of the government and also of the officials
01:00who appropriated those works.
01:02The couple's defence lawyer denied concealment charges and dismissed claims of obstruction.
01:10He said his clients complied fully and were willing to hand over the painting.
01:15The lost art was spotted weeks ago in a photo on a real estate listing for a house in Mar
01:19del Plata, owned by Patricia Cadgian.
01:22The prosecutors said the couple later took down the online real estate listing and replaced
01:26the painting with a tapestry ahead of a police raid.
01:30Police searched properties connected to the couple to find the missing art, which authorities
01:34announced had been recovered on Wednesday.
01:38Investigators also seized engravings, prints, drawings and two 19th-century paintings, officials
01:42said.
01:43If those are determined to have been looted, there could be more charges.
01:47An Argentine judge imposed a 180-day travel ban on the couple, ordering them to surrender
01:53their passports and barred them from leaving their home for more than 24 hours without court
01:58approval.
01:59Prosecutors said the art will remain in Argentina and have requested it be transferred to the
02:04Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum while its ultimate ownership is determined.
