00:37I recently visited Morocco for the first time and tried a traditional Moroccan Hamam in Marrakesh,
00:44so in this video, I'm gonna share that experience. Let's get started!

01:19Marrakesh is probably one of the most chaotic cities in Morocco, or anywhere that I've ever been to.
01:33It's the appearance of widening other ways that are almost impossible to navigate,
01:38where so many street vendors, spice dealers, and tour guide try to back on you into their shops.
01:44I wanna take a picture up, sir. Come on.
01:53There aren't many places quite like it, and while it's way worth visiting,
02:00you might get a little overwhelmed while wandering around the city.
02:03Hamam is a great way to heal and relax your mind and body when you want to take a break
02:12from the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh.
02:16Hamam, the Turkish version of a public Roman bathhouse, has had a long history since it
02:23emerged into existence in 600 AD.
02:28Commonly known as a Turkish bath, Hamam was adapted from its Roman roots and gradually
02:34evolved to its current status as an indispensable cultural activity in Turkish society.
02:43However, Hamams are not exclusively Turkish experiences, and variations have also emerged
02:49in other Arabic societies, most significantly in Morocco.
02:56Moroccan Hamams are as well known as their Turkish counterparts, and are a major part
03:00of Moroccan life.
03:03Just like Turkey, traditional Hamams are also widely available in most cities of Morocco.
03:12You can spot a local Hamam in the street quite easily in Morocco, but when I try to get in,
03:17there's one problem.
03:20The receptionist told me that I can't take any pictures or videos inside, which I was
03:25kind of expecting.
03:28Although the Hamams I had visited in other countries, such as Turkey, allowed me to film, that just
03:34because there are more laid-back establishments, and as a YouTuber, I knew I shouldn't take that
03:39type of treatment for granted.
03:44In particular, I was aware that some Moroccan people are very sensitive to cameras, so it
03:49totally makes sense that filming is forbidden in such an intimate space as a Hamam.
03:56But I really wanted to record my first Moroccan Hamam experience, so I changed my strategy
04:01and decided to go to a private worst Hamam instead, since I thought if there are no other
04:07people, they could allow me to film inside.
04:11I found a Hamam near Medina, so I asked the staff if I could bring my camera inside.

06:16First, she took me to a beautifully decorated lobby.
06:24While they were preparing the room, I was making myself comfortable with some welcome tea.

07:06I'm gonna put on this underwear that they gave me.
07:11When I tried to go into a steam room after changing, the staff told me that I can film
07:16inside, but only before getting the treatment.
07:20It was quite a shame that I couldn't recall the moment I was actually experiencing the hamam.
07:25But I will explain what it was like to you.
07:32The first step is to sit back and relax in a steam room.
07:37The steam will gradually open your pores, and a few deep breaths will ease you into relaxation.
07:43As you let go of the stress of wandering through a bustling Moroccan market.
07:48It was very relaxing, and I noticed that it was not as hot as the Turkish hamams I had tried before.
07:56Actually, Turkish and Moroccan hamams are heated in different ways, which gives bathers a slightly varied experience.
08:05Turkish hamams are heated solely by hot and dry steam circulating through the room, which causes you to immediately sweat a lot.
08:15On the other hand, heaty Moroccan hamam is generated through hot water running through the taps, walls, and floors, which creates a more subtle steam bath experience.
08:28After about 5 minutes, an attendant comes into the room to soap up your entire body.
08:34There's a difference in the soap too.
08:39In a Turkish hamam, they use a soapy ladder and literally cover your whole body with it.
08:49However, Moroccan hamam use thick organic black soap made out of the holes of black olives.
08:57It kind of looks like molasses or crude oil, but it actually felt great on my skin.
09:05Once applied, I was left for a while to relax and allow the skin to react with the soap and steam.
09:13To complete the process of cleansing and exfoliation, the thick soap was scrub and rinsed off.
09:22Now, it's time for a massage.
09:24We moved to a massage room with dim lightening, separated by curtains.
09:30The oil massage that the attendant gave me was so relaxing and I almost fell asleep.
09:37This was the biggest difference from the Turkish hamam, where I was practically abused by the masseur.
09:43In this Moroccan hamam, the whole experience was like a pleasant spa and my skin felt very clean and smooth afterwards.
09:57It was so good.

27:32There's hot water and cold water
27:34After you take a shower
27:36What most people do is go into the hot water
27:38This water can be pretty hot
27:40So be very careful
27:42This hot tub was 39 degrees celsius
27:44Which is what you'll see in most places

27:48This water used to feel blazing hot when I was young
27:51Now it's just nice and warm

28:45This can get uncomfortably hot
28:49But no one's telling you to stay there except for your toxic male traits

29:29And they just scrub the shit out of your skin

31:52And then jump into the cold water
31:53And then go back into the sauna
31:55And then jump back into the cold water

32:07That water contains probably hundreds of men today

33:35You can pretty much sleep anywhere
33:37There is a dedicated sleeping room
33:39But some people sleep here in the lounge
33:41So if you want to do that
33:43You can get one of these mattresses
33:45And a little blanket
33:47I picked up the star pattern

33:54Feels a little hard on my hand
33:56And there's nothing that's stopping you

36:46Anyway, it's a huge thing to drink shikha when you're in a Korean jimjilbang
36:53It's a traditional Korean drink, it comes from fermented rice
36:59So sweet
37:00Honestly, as sweet as Coca-Cola
37:02This probably has a lot of sugar
37:04I must say, it feels amazing drinking some shikha after a sauna session
37:08And here's my food

37:22So this is the jayyukbokkeum
37:24Which is marinated pork
37:26It's really delicious
37:27And this is yeolmu guksu
37:30Which is young radish noodle
37:34The quality of the food that you get in a jimjilbang can vary a lot
37:37Depending on where you go to
37:39But this is one of the better ones I've seen
37:41Oh, they give you a lot of portion too
37:45Let me start with the yeolmu guksu
37:48You guys should have some really
37:50So this is a type of cold noodle that you don't see too often in Korea
37:54Oftentimes cold noodles in Korea are buckwheat based
37:57Whereas this one was rice based
37:59So nice and refreshing
38:01There's just a touch of spiciness
38:03But it's not really spicy
38:05The rice noodle, it goes so well with this radish
38:08Reddish
38:09I've been on a diet for a while
38:11So this to me is like a cheat meal
38:15These are baked eggs
38:16So this is the most basic jimjilbang food that you can get
38:20Oh, it just peels right off
38:23Protein
38:27It comes with a packet of salt
38:29I personally eat my egg without salt
38:31I don't really mind it
38:32Once you feel like you're choking
38:35Enjoy that while you can
38:36And if you reach that point that you can't take it anymore
38:41Then drink that jimjilbang
38:42Dude, I feel like a king right now
38:44That's so much food
38:45I also enjoyed their jimjilbang a lot
38:47It wasn't as good as a really good restaurant
38:50But it was restaurant quality for sure
38:52A good Korean restaurant is measured by their kimchi
38:55Mmm, I like their kimchi
38:59So what I'll do
39:01I'll get some kimchi
39:03And have that with the rice noodle
39:05Wow

39:13The food is affordable
39:14And they had a decent quality
39:15So it was an amazing way to end my day
39:17At the jimjilbang
39:18And I think that marks the end of my time in this spa
