OpenAI CEO Sam Altman raised alarms Wednesday about the growing number of AI-generated accounts on X, escalating his feud with Elon Musk. Altman wrote on X that “there are really a lot of LLM-run twitter accounts now,” referencing the “dead internet theory,” which suggests bots and algorithm-driven content dominate the web. The warning comes as competition intensifies between OpenAI and Musk’s xAI, which are battling for leadership in the artificial intelligence sector. In recent months, Altman accused Musk of manipulating X and trying to derail OpenAI’s $500 billion “Stargate” project, while Musk labeled him “Scam Altman.” In August, Altman accused Musk of manipulating X to serve his own interests after Musk claimed Apple favored OpenAI in App Store rankings. OpenAI is also reportedly considering launching its own social media competitor to X, adding to tensions.
