00:00I'm Elisa Priddle with Motor Trend and I am in Munich Germany for finally our first look at the
00:19production version of BMW's iX3. This one is the iX350 xDrive which means it's a pure electric
00:29vehicle all-wheel drive because it has motors front and back but the reason we are so excited
00:35about this is because forever we've been hearing about BMW having a new platform their Neuklasse
00:42and this is the first look at what is now going to produce 40 models off of this brand new architecture
00:50so Neuklasse is the future of BMW and that means an all-new look and check out the illumination
01:00and these vertical kidneys if you were tired of the way the kidneys were being shaped in the past
01:05this is the future the other thing about the new look they've gone for kind of a clean modern look
01:12very few lines flush door handles and everything's designed to be aerodynamic because they want
01:20efficiency the emphasis on lighting continues in the rear check these out and when you approach
01:26the vehicle they will be animated as well the front headlights so inside the iX3 we have a nice two
01:38tone interior a lot of recyclable materials such as this which is made from recycled fishing nets and
01:46other plastics but the star is the screen so over here you have 43.3 inches of a panoramic vision
01:56screen here's the control screen kind of loving the shape of it see how it's it's inclined towards
02:02the driver and it's right here easy to use and touch and so let's play with it a little bit
02:08so here we go panoramic vision configure up here you can change what you want to see up there so
02:18maybe i want to take that one out and i want to put this one in very very easy put whatever you want
02:24in there drag move things there you go configure however you want and check this guy out this is the
02:33personal assistant so hey bmw see he blinks he looks at me i gotta love it hey bmw um how do i get to the
02:45airport here's what i found you can say things like take me to the first one which one do you want as you
02:53can see it does respond incredibly quickly and you can use natural voice to get it to do what you want
03:00part of the reason that they can do this so quickly is because bmw has developed all of the
03:05software in-house and they this vehicle is comprised of four super brains kind of four control units and
03:13so they control all the aspects of the vehicle from the connectivity to the actual drive dynamics to the
03:20lighting everything in-house and they all talk to each other well and so you don't have a multitude of
03:27suppliers giving you all these different systems that are trying to talk to each other go back and
03:31forth that's where you get latency if you have one system all developed to talk to each other quickly
03:37then you can get the responses much faster than than perhaps you see in in some of the units today
03:44where you're kind of waiting waiting waiting for it to respond
03:49so this is a bmw after all so it has to perform so let's think about some of the numbers
03:55this is the all-wheel drive two motors so we're looking at 470 horsepower 475 pound-feet of torque
04:04in terms of range it's expected to get about 400 miles on a single charge and it can charge at a
04:10charging speed up to 400 kilowatt hours it's an 800 volt architecture but it will work on 400 volt charging
04:19systems which is a big deal for the u.s because that's really what most of the charging network
04:25offers so production starts at a new plant in hungary starts later this year it'll go on sale in europe
04:31in march and it'll be summer of next year that you'll see it in the u.s european pricing translates to
04:39about 81 000 u.s but we are told that does not mean that's the u.s pricing so many factors that we
04:46really don't know what the pricing will be but again this is the dual motor one and there will be
04:51an entry-level rear drive version that will follow and then we're going to see a bunch more coming off
04:56of this neuiglassa we're going to see an i3 sedan probably a year after we get the suv once again check
05:02out this face because you are going to see this on the road for a long time to come because neuiglassa
05:10is the future of bmw and they have never spent this much money on a platform ever in the history of
05:17of the german automaker
