BMW iX3 - Whats new from 2026
Transcript
00:00Vehicle safety continues to evolve, and so does our testing.
00:04At ANCAP Safety, we crash cars so you don't have to.
00:09From 2026, we've reshaped our test and rating approach, taking on board your feedback.
00:16The four-pillar approach continues, with revised categories designed to better reflect the stages of safety,
00:22what happens before a crash, during a crash, and after a crash.
00:27The crash protection stage is fundamental, and continues to carry the most significance.
00:34We'll always focus on structure, crumple zones, airbags and seatbelts,
00:39but we've expanded to include new dummies, a broader range of speeds,
00:43and new test configurations that reflect more real-world crashes.
00:48We've also introduced a rule where any red body region will limit a vehicle to a maximum of four stars.
00:56From 2026, crash avoidance and driver assistance features face tougher testing too.
01:03We're looking at how well systems like auto braking and lane support work at night,
01:08in the rain, and in complex situations with cyclists and pedestrians.
01:13We'll be recognising practical design features that improve safety,
01:18physical buttons for essential controls, electric door handles that remain operable after a crash,
01:25and systems that can prevent pedal misapplication.
01:28New assessments look at how electric and hybrid vehicles manage energy and fire risk after a crash,
01:35and whether the car can automatically alert emergency services with key crash details through e-call.
01:42Each of the stages of safety will be scored out of 100 points,
01:47with minimum thresholds still determining the overall star rating.
01:51At ANCAP Safety, we continue to test and rate as many new cars as we can,
01:57to provide you with a simple and trusted star rating.
