00:00So, Willie Peters, certainly not the result you wanted, performance-wise, just sum up how you saw this evening.
00:05Yeah, it wasn't a good performance and obviously the result said that.
00:10I thought we didn't start the game well, we didn't start how we wanted to, how we planned to.
00:16Credit to Leeds, I thought they were very good.
00:18Had some young middles there who stood up and certainly taught us about some areas of the game that we usually value that we didn't tonight.
00:28Which areas were those?
00:31I thought they had more aggression, I thought they had more intent, I thought we were very, very grabby in defence.
00:38And they strolled to us through our line way too easy.
00:41We pride ourselves in defence and they found the backfield far too easy to not.
00:46You seemed to be on the backfield quite early.
00:49The first few minutes, obviously, you were there or thereabouts, but penalties crept in every now and again.
00:53How much of a setback was that played?
00:55Yeah, we didn't build any pressure whatsoever.
00:58Three yardage penalties, you know, that's been a regular occurrence the last sort of few weeks.
01:04Last week wasn't too bad, but the week before.
01:06So, yeah, we're just taking any pressure that we did have on them, we took off.
01:11So, something that we need to look at.
01:13So, I saw Sue went off early in the game.
01:15Firstly, how is it?
01:16Yeah, we're just going to wait and see because it doesn't sound good at the moment.
01:21So, we'll have to wait and see how the scan goes.
01:23But, yeah, we're fearing the worst.
01:24But we're hoping it's going to be better for us because he had so much to our team.
01:30And we certainly missed him tonight when he went off.
01:33What was his problem?
01:34Was it a knee?
01:35It's a knee, yeah.
01:35How much of an effect then do you feel that that had?
01:39Obviously, one incident can't turn a game like that.
01:42But how much of an effect did it have for you?
01:43We had Jai go off as well.
01:45So, it hurt.
01:46Naturally, the two front rollers, yeah, they don't play large parts of that game.
01:52But I don't think we had control of that game at all tonight.
01:56But being fair as well, you came up against a side, the Leeds-Rhinel side, that really
02:02were on form tonight.
02:03Yeah, they've been on form for a long time.
02:05You know, they're a team that can beat anyone.
02:09And they've proven that.
02:10So, I mean, any team can beat anyone on their day.
02:13But Leeds are definitely a team that will be there at the back end of the year.
02:16What was your message at half-time?
02:18Did you still feel you could get into the game?
02:19Yeah, I did.
02:20We just needed to give ourselves a chance by sticking to what we planned to do.
02:25And we just didn't do that.
02:27I thought the first 20 minutes, the 25 minutes, I thought it was a lot better in terms of
02:34our intent and mainly our tackling and tackle selection.
02:38But, yeah, I didn't think we were out of the game.
02:40I thought, you know, 12-0 down.
02:42I thought we were chasing the game too much as if we were 18, 24 points down or 20, you
02:46know, 20, 21 points down.
02:48But we were only 12-0 at the time.
02:50And then, obviously, they got that other one to take at 18.
02:52But I still thought we were well and truly in the game, providing that we built some
02:58pressure and we played how we wanted to.
03:01So we just didn't attack well and we didn't defend well.
03:05In the second half, did you feel that you saw an improvement?
03:07Yeah, there was definitely an improvement in the first, you know, for that first period.
03:11But then we sort of tapered off, you know, was that because we had, you know, a rotation
03:16of finals, players playing a lot, big minutes.
03:18You know, we did take some players off as well.
03:22It was an improvement, but it wasn't to where we needed to be.
03:25Do you feel maybe there was a hangover from last week at Wigan at all, maybe that you
03:28didn't see coming?
03:30I'm not going to use that as an excuse.
03:31The Leeds have big games.
03:33I mean, they're backing up as well.
03:35They had a five-day turnaround.
03:36We had a six-day.
03:38That's irrelevant.
03:40So on to next week again.
03:42Another big game at St Helens.
03:43But knowing your mentality with your team, very much put that to one side and move on.
03:48Yeah, we'll definitely look at it.
03:50We need to, you know, be honest of why we sort of perform that way.
03:54It's pretty simple.
03:57You look at the start of the game.
03:58You look at the, you know, we didn't build any pressure whatsoever.
04:02Our last plays.
04:03But as I said, I want to start, you know, with our tackling, our tackle selection.
04:08It wasn't great tonight, which is very grabby.
04:10Where they had, you know, good intent, good dual contact.
04:14Technically we were sound and, you know, we weren't.
04:17And just finally for me, just to round up with the injuries, you say, about Jarrett coming
04:20off, how was he?
04:22What was his point?
04:22Yeah, I need to find out a little bit more from our medical team.
04:28Initially, yeah, it sounded worse than what it was.
04:30And we're hoping it's not as bad.
04:32So we'll find out more tomorrow, in the next few days.
04:35And everyone else okay?
04:36They seem to be.
04:37I mean, there's a few, yeah, Arthur's got a bit of a shoulder.
04:41This guy's carrying things, but I know they're getting a major.
04:45Willie, you spent most of the season leading games and being in control of the games.
04:49Obviously, it went a little bit different this night.
04:51Is that a good lesson tonight of when you're chasing again?
04:56You're going to have to manage it a little bit differently than you did tonight.
04:59Look, as I said before, man, I don't think we started the game well.
05:02So I don't think we had any flow in our attack.
05:07And last plays, like overall, of course.
05:09So for me, I don't think I'd ever look comfortable when we had the ball when we were attacking.
05:15I mean, we've scored by far the most amount of points in the competition with our attacks.
05:20That's not to say that we can't attack.
05:22But tonight, I didn't feel comfortable at all.
05:23Whether it was nil or 4-nil or 24-nil, whatever it was, towards that back end, we'll never really be in a position to look like we'll score on tries.
05:33So tonight, we just, yeah, we didn't build enough pressure.
05:37If you build pressure, your tries come off the back of that.
05:39If you defend well, your tries come off the back of that.
05:42So the intensity thing you mentioned, and Leeds really did come through the middle strong.
05:46Can you put that down to losing Jesse and what he does inside the platform?
05:52Is that not enough mitigation for him?
05:55Oh, look, Jesse's a loss.
05:56And Jai's a loss, you know, when they come off the field.
05:59But, you know, I don't think, as I said, I wasn't comfortable with us winning the game.
06:05I can't remember.
06:06When did Jesse come off?
06:07I can't remember exactly what it was.
06:08But then 3-4 minutes.
06:09Yeah, he was early.
06:10But then obviously Jai, when Jai came off, from that period, I wasn't overly confident in the way we were playing.
06:17Jesse was at the start of the game.
06:18So his is a little bit different.
06:20But he certainly helped with our start.
06:22So him coming off, I just said to the boys then that, you know, he's a huge loss for us.
06:27People have got to step up.
06:28And that's what we needed tonight.
06:30So, yeah, we need to have a look at our start next week.
06:32What's nearly the message beat from the players and our diligence of talking about what was it?
06:36Nah, I've told them not to talk.
06:38We had a fair bit of talking before the game.
06:39We spoke a lot this week and we probably didn't action enough.
06:42So, I did a bit of the talking today.
06:45Willie, what did you make of the challenge on Arta?
06:49I don't know, I don't know if it was a contact they've had.
06:52Yeah, I didn't see enough of it to make a real comment on it.
06:56So, yeah, I'll have to have a look at it.
07:01Cheers.
