iPhone 17 Don't Make a Mistake!

00:00Do not buy the iPhone 17,
00:03unless you care about these four things.
00:07I mean, let's just be honest.
00:08At this point, the iPhone 17 has basically fully leaked.
00:11We know about 99% of what Apple
00:14is planning to change this year.
00:16And for most of you, you'd rather just skip this one,
00:19wait for something more exciting,
00:20or maybe even jump into the Android world.
00:22You can do that, wouldn't recommend it, but you can do it.
00:24But for those of you sort of on the fence,
00:26wondering, should I switch to the iPhone?
00:28Should I upgrade my old iPhone?
00:30Is it worth buying?
00:32Let me give you four of the things to consider
00:35with the iPhone 17 that might just make it worth it for you.
00:40Especially if you've got an older iPhone, it's time.
00:42And maybe if you have an iPhone 16 like me,
00:45might actually make sense to move to the iPhone 17
00:48and spend that money.
00:50Here's why.
00:50Reason number one is gonna be super controversial,
00:53but I'm just gonna say it because the data doesn't lie.
00:56And that is design.
00:58If you are someone who really wants your phone
01:01to look and feel different,
01:02you are just so tired of the norm
01:05and you want something new,
01:06you probably should go out and buy a folding phone
01:08because that is way more exciting.
01:09But if you wanna stay in the Apple world for now,
01:12go with an iPhone 17,
01:14or at least one of the Airs or Pros,
01:17because that is going to be more exciting and interesting,
01:19because the design is going to be getting a bit of a tweak.
01:22Now, in all seriousness, the data shows that when iPhones get some more substantial redesign,
01:28they sell better.
01:29Like even Apple was sort of flabbergasted and was happy that iPhone 16 was selling better than the 15.
01:35But a lot of analysts say that's because the cameras on the back look different.
01:39And if you can tell just from glancing at the back of a phone that you've got something new,
01:43for many, that is reason enough to upgrade.
01:46And with the iPhone 17,
01:47we're expecting that against specifically on the Air,
01:50the super thin phone is gonna be totally new and different.
01:52And then on the Pros,
01:54you're gonna be getting sort of that new two-tone camera bar on the back as well.
01:57And I will say sort of in all seriousness, design aside,
02:00if you want something totally new that looks new and feels new,
02:04then the iPhone 17 slim or Air,
02:06that's gonna certainly be the way to go.
02:08And then I think for many of you, if you've got an older generation Pro phone,
02:14as beautiful and as premium as that stainless steel is,
02:18Apple switching away from that has been one of the best moves they've ever made.
02:23We've got titanium on the 16 and the 15.
02:25Sure, you're still out on the 17 Pro,
02:28if it's gonna be titanium or probably Apple switching to aluminum,
02:31which would sort of have its pros and cons.
02:34But one of the biggest things,
02:35their biggest benefits is it would make the phone significantly lighter.
02:37So if you just sort of want a phone that is lighter and more comfortable,
02:42I'm telling you as dumb as it sounds,
02:44switching away from that stainless steel does make a real big difference.
02:48So something to consider there,
02:50if you're sort of on the fence with the 17 series.
02:53The second reason to consider this purchase is all about the B word,
02:56and that is battery or specifically battery life.
03:00Now, if you're just not happy with the battery performance of your current phone,
03:04you do have a couple of options.
03:05I think Apple does battery replacements under certain circumstances.
03:09So you can look at that.
03:10Third parties will do it as well.
03:12But if you want sort of a totally new battery and more importantly,
03:15just a bigger, better battery,
03:17then the iPhone 17 will deliver in almost all areas.
03:21We're hearing right now that iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max
03:26will be getting physically larger batteries this year,
03:29that typically when paired with the latest and greatest Apple Silicon chip,
03:32should give you better efficiency and in sort of in turn, better battery life.
03:36So if you're looking for a battery life boost from your current phone,
03:39the iPhone 17 series should deliver with one big exception.
03:44And that, of course, is the iPhone 17 Air.
03:47When Apple goes on to make a phone super slim, super thin, super lightweight,
03:52you've got to expect some battery sacrifices here to be something to consider.
03:56And from everything we're hearing, it is going to be maybe not severely disappointing,
04:02but definitely at least a little disappointing.
04:03The battery capacity, just according to rumors, is not the biggest thing in that phone.
04:09So much so that Apple might be preemptively working on a battery case to sell alongside it.
04:13All that to say, if you go with the iPhone 17 Air,
04:16there will be a number of sacrifices in terms of cameras, in terms of screen size,
04:21then also in terms of battery life.
04:23So just know that that phone is probably not going to be the battery king you're looking for.
04:27Besides that, you should be getting a battery boost in every other model in the lineup.
04:31Reason number three to consider the upgrade this year is about the screen,
04:35specifically ProMotion on the screen.
04:38Because finally, at long last, it's like Apple is finally listening
04:43and they're bringing ProMotion 120 Hertz to every single phone in the lineup this year.
04:47And I know Android phones have had this for years now.
04:51It's not the biggest thing ever, but I will say I still meet people every single day
04:56that are just sort of impressed with the ProMotion display of my 16 Pro,
05:00especially for those who have a couple of older generation iPhones,
05:03or even if you just haven't used a Pro iPhone,
05:06that ProMotion just makes a real big difference.
05:09In fact, for many, it's not even like the chip or the processor or any of that stuff or the RAM.
05:13It's the phone feels faster because of that 120 Hertz ProMotion,
05:17which is really, really nice.
05:18And for those who have used it, they'll tell you they like it as well.
05:20Before I get to number four, of course, there are some other smaller things here
05:24that some of you will care about, some of you won't.
05:26Wi-Fi 7 support, the new Apple Silicon chip.
05:28There are new colors, by the way, if that's how you make your phone buying decisions,
05:32you will have some new colors to choose from across the board.
05:35There are some other technical upgrades here.
05:37There are some other, you know, sort of solid upgrades here.
05:39But by and large, the iPhone 17 isn't the biggest upgrade ever.
05:44Of course, the caveat there is it's all sort of relative to the phone you've got right now.
05:49But with that being said, there is one more reason you may want to upgrade,
05:53even for me, going from the 16 Pro to a 17 Pro.
05:57And of course, the reason for that is the upgraded camera.
05:59And again, it's not like there's some like monumental major upgrade from generation to generation.
06:05But at least for me, I use my iPhone camera so much for photos and videos every single day.
06:11Like not a day goes by that I'm taking a photo or video on this thing.
06:14That for me, having the best camera in my pocket at all times is important.
06:18And the iPhone 17 series will deliver that.
06:21So we're going to be getting a 24 megapixel selfie camera on every single phone.
06:25So that'll be great.
06:26And then on the 17 and 17 Air, you'll get sort of a nicer sort of solid main camera setup.
06:32But on the 17 Pro, a couple of things we should be seeing.
06:36We could be getting an improved optical zoom for the telephoto zoom lens.
06:40We're hearing that 8K video recording might finally be a thing this year.
06:44And then also for the pros, whether this makes sense or not to you is kind of,
06:48I guess your opinion, drop a comment down below.
06:50But we're hearing that the pros might have an exclusive feature that'll let you record
06:54both the front camera and the rear camera at the exact same time.
06:58I know there are apps out there that can do it.
07:00The Rode has got an app.
07:01I'm showing you footage of it right now.
07:02It can do it.
07:03But if you want that natively in your iPhone's camera app,
07:06that might be a thing just for the pro cameras.
07:09Now, again, 16 to 17, not the biggest deal ever.
07:13But if you've got a 15 or a 14 or a 13 or a 12,
07:17you're not only making a leap and getting a bunch of other upgrades,
07:20but you're going to be getting a significantly better camera.
07:22And I think that's always the thing that I look at.
07:25That's sort of the way I give advice to people
07:27is what phone generation do you have right now?
07:30Is your battery sort of failing you?
07:32Is the phone not lasting a full day?
07:34Does it feel sluggish?
07:35Are you running out of space?
07:36And maybe more importantly, you know,
07:38if you have an older generation with a camera that could,
07:40you know, use some improvement and things like that,
07:43making that investment, not just sort of spending the money,
07:45but making a true investment in a new phone
07:47is a very worthwhile thing to do.
07:49And I think if you've got a 14 or before you're sort of,
07:52you know, waiting that three generation mark,
07:54that's probably a good benchmark these days.
07:56You should be happy about the abundance of improvements
07:59that'll be here with the 17.
08:01Now, if you don't care about camera that much,
08:03if you've got a dedicated camera,
08:04if your battery life is still good and you don't give a flip
08:07or flop about the design of the phone,
08:09then you have my blessing as an Apple guy in your life.
08:12Do not upgrade.
08:13Do not waste the money.
08:14Don't give Apple marketing the power they want.
08:17Just save your money and be happy because it's just not worth it.
08:20But again, if you've got an older phone
08:23or you care about battery life, screen, design, or camera,
08:28then that might just be reason enough to get you to upgrade to the latest phone.
08:33Remember, pricing is likely going to be a little bit more expensive this year.
08:35So start saving if you haven't already.
08:38And then we should be getting an official reveal very soon.
08:41Like I think in early September,
08:42September 9th possibly is the date for the event.
