Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Chris Davis. I'm about to go on a very thrilling and arduous cycle up in Scotland, in Glasgow.
00:15It's called the Sir Chris Hoy Challenge and it's called the Tour de Four.
00:19And the reason I'm doing it is I've got advanced prostate cancer and this is my way of getting back at the disease
00:26and sharing with others how early detection in cancer is crucial.
00:31I've been in the Forest of Dean for 25 years and I've been at Haberdasher for 15.
00:38So that's a huge network of young people, their parents, teachers, etc.
00:45So yeah, I've been very fortunate in my fundraising campaign.
00:49I've had so many networks that I've been able to call them.
00:52People have been incredibly generous.
00:54I love a challenge anyway. I love a physical challenge.
00:58I'm a physical person. I try and keep us fit as if my body allows me to.
01:02Particularly now, cancer's entered it.
01:05And that's my determination really.
01:07Just stay normal and enjoy it. Live day to day.
01:14So as you probably know, a lot of listeners will know,
01:17Sir Chris Hoy has terminal cancer stage 4 like I have.
01:21And he has this idea of this wonderful challenge, which is called Tour de Four,
01:26which is to give the public a better awareness of what it's like to have stage 4 cancer and live with it.
01:34And his phrases, stay in the moment.
01:39I think it's just greater awareness really.
01:41That's the most important thing.
01:43I mean, I've been humbled by the number of men who have approached me to talk about prostate cancer itself.
01:49How are you tested? How long did it take? Does it hurt?
01:55All those sort of very basic questions that I and other people who have been through the experience are able to answer very simply.
02:01It is a blood test.
02:03Whether your PSA, which is the indicator of whether you've got prostate cancer or not, is there or not.
02:09And that's as simple as that.
02:11Well, I've had huge personal enjoyment and the thing I've taken away Grace, which I will add, is I've been blessed.
02:18I've been blessed to see with all the things that go on in the world that aren't particularly nice, in fact they're horrific,
02:25the generosity and normality of people, how generous people are, how kind people are.
02:31And it's overwhelming if I'm honest.
02:33It's a good chance to thank everybody for being so generous and so kind.
