From being 136 kilos during his study days in London to facing health challenges on Metoprolol and Lipitor, Chef Zam’s life was far from easy.
Growing up, compliments like 'so cute' only masked the struggles he faced inside. While searching for answers, he stumbled upon the then-new discovery of bariatric surgery in 2004.
After being referred to specialists at Hospital Kuala Terengganu and later HUKM, Chef Zam realised that liposuction wasn’t the solution. Instead, bariatric surgery became the turning point.

00:00I googled and I found a new discovery at that time. It was in 2004, if I'm not mistaken.
00:082004. And there was something called bariatric surgery.
00:13I am an extremist. When it comes to doing something, either I do it well or I don't do it at all.
00:20I went to study in London. Then, at that time, I was already... No, no, no. Yes, it was in London.
00:29I was already 136 kilos, doctor.
00:33136 kilos. I mean, when I was growing up, of course everybody was, they're all so cute and things like that.
00:41I mean, in a way, encouraging me to eat more, maybe. I don't know.
00:45But at the same time, I was having difficulties.
00:48I was put on metaprolol for a few years and libido for a few years.
00:53Then, I said, well, it's time to find some alternatives instead of exercising because I did not exercise at all at that time.
01:03So, I googled. I googled and I found a new discovery at that time.
01:09It was in 2004, if I'm not mistaken.
01:122004. And there was something called bariatric surgery.
01:18I am an extremist.
01:20When it comes to doing something, either I do it well or I don't do it at all.
01:26That's the kind of person I am and the way I operate.
01:31But at that time, the cost was 5,000 pounds.
01:36That was in London.
01:36That was in London.
01:375,000 pounds and of course, being a student, they have that much money.
01:43So, I just buried the idea of having it done.
01:48So, I came back here and continued working.
01:50And there was one day that I thought, oh, I remember the search that I did while I was in London.
01:58So, I googled it again and it happened.
02:01I'm sure you remember Professor Dr. Jasmine Ali Yaakob.
02:05So, I just went straight.
02:07No, no, no, no, no.
02:08It was Dr. Najeeha, a plastic surgeon in Hospital Besar Kuala Terengganu who referred me to Prof. Jasmine.
02:17Because I went back to Terengganu.
02:19I'm from Terengganu.
02:20I went back to Terengganu.
02:21I went and I, in a way, threatened her.
02:25Please let me lose weight.
02:27Help me to lose weight.
02:28Because I thought by doing laposuction, I would be able.
02:34You know, that was a wrong construction.
02:36I thought if she did a laposuction on me, I would be able to lose weight and become normal again after so many umpteen years.
02:46Well, she says that that's impossible.
02:49Let me refer you to this doctor.
02:51At first, I was upset because she refused to do laposuction on me.
02:56Actually, she did me a big favour.
02:59So, I went to Hukm at the Temple of Jasmine was at Hukm.
03:03And the rest is history.
03:06Hukm at the Temple of Jasmine was at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm at Hukm.
