Gold Coast rideshare driver fights for life in hospital after senseless attack

A rideshare driver is fighting for life after she was allegedly stabbed by a teenage passenger on the Gold Coast. The boy has been charged by police, who say the reason for the senseless attack could have been to steal her phone.

00:00A white SUV loaded onto a tow truck outside a Coomera shopping centre.

00:07The usually busy location turned into a crime scene.

00:10It could happen anywhere, but you never expect it to happen in your backyard.

00:14You go out, you think you're safe, and then it just happens just like that, doesn't it?

00:18A 32-year-old woman was discovered in a semi-conscious state,

00:22with stab wounds to her head, neck and back,

00:25allegedly left to bleed out in her car.

00:28Our investigations say that she was there for an hour or two

00:31before being discovered by the security guard.

00:34The woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries

00:37and remains in a critical condition.

00:39Detectives are still waiting to formally speak to her.

00:42Detectives searched the area and found a knife in the bushes.

00:46They're still searching for a motive as they try to determine

00:49what happened during the ride,

00:51but say it could all have been over the driver's phone,

00:54which was allegedly stolen.

00:56The offender has booked a rideshare with that female

01:00and has gone from the Hope Island area to the Coomera area.

01:05A 16-year-old Coomera boy was arrested at his home nearby today,

01:10charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm,

01:13armed robbery and deprivation of liberty.

01:16Any crime that has an element of violence is never acceptable in our society.

01:22QPS will always work tirelessly to bring those offenders to justice.

01:26WIPS will always work for his only actions.

01:29And a 20-year-old Coomera could all have taken over the years

01:36of violence and all of the crimes and the consequences.
