During a press briefing on Wednesday, President Trump praised the United States' relationship with Poland.
Transcript
00:00What are the most important branches of interest between Poland and U.S. in Europe?
00:07Well, it's just the relationship we have.
00:09I think there's a great trust and a great, more than, you know, more than most countries,
00:14more than almost any countries, we have some in a category that's very special,
00:18and Poland is in that category.
00:20We have a very special relationship.
00:22It's like the question about the soldiers that was asked.
00:26We never even thought in terms of removing soldiers from Poland.
00:30We do think about it with regard to other countries, but we would never know.
00:35We're with Poland all the way, and we will help Poland protect itself.
00:42I would like to add something.
00:44Yeah, of course, security is most important also for our relation,
00:48and I'm historian, as you know, maybe, Mr. President.
00:51I'm historian, and this is the first time in Polish history,
00:55in the 20th century and the 21st century,
00:57that the Poles are happy that we have foreign soldiers in Poland.
01:03So the American soldiers are the part of our society nowadays.
01:07We have almost 10,000 soldiers, and this is the signal to all the world,
01:12and also to the Russian Federation, that we are together.
01:16But we are not like the Poland free riders in Europe and in NATO.
01:21President Trump knows it because our GDP for military service achieved 4.7.
01:29So we are probably the one NATO nation which is on this level,
01:34and we will not stop.
01:37Me, as the President of Poland,
01:39we are going to achieve 5% of GDP for military service,
01:44but with American soldiers on Polish soil,
01:46and we solidify and we are secure.
01:51You know, just about that.
01:55You know, Poland was one of two nations that paid more
01:58than they were supposed to with NATO.
02:00I don't know if anyone knows that, but there were two nations,
02:03and Poland paid more than they were supposed to.
02:05They thought it was low.
02:06And by the way, since then, at my request,
02:09they've raised it from 2% to 5%.
02:11But Poland was one of two nations that paid more than they were supposed to,
02:15which was a very nice thing.
02:17Yeah.
