00:00Hello and welcome to another exciting Guardian Music episode and today we're joined with none
00:13other than Mr. Fido himself. Thank you for joining us. Thank you brother, nice to meet you too.
00:19Alright, you're looking fresh my bro, looking sharp. How's the vibe? The vibe is always classic
00:26and just the normal and usual. What's the normal and usual like on the day to day?
00:33On the day to day it's just me looking fresh and always making sure that Fido comes out unique.
00:40Okay, I mean congrats again on your album, Olayemi. I get it right? Yes, that's my name.
00:46That's your name? Yeah. Okay, so what does that embody for you? It speaks more about my story
00:56um my struggles and my name which is Olayemi talks more about wealth as well because when you
01:03ask for the meaning of Olayemi means wealth befits me. So um and when you listen to the um
01:09projects you would hear me speaking more about money, money, income, income. Yeah so as I was
01:17saying it talks more about my um struggles, my story, how I started um my journey in the music
01:23um industry and uh so much so forth. Yeah so let's let's bring it back to when you actually started
01:28it. When did you start this um move towards music? Um I started that was a very long time ago
01:37I would say when I was 14 years at that time so I knew I could sing too because I was at the choir
01:43at the first square gospel church at that time and I was eternal backup singer and so I got a menu that
01:51yes I had the talent in me. Where was that? Where was that? Where was that your church choir? My church
01:58it was at Matogun where I live my room, Matogun state here so that's when I joined the choir and um
02:05since then I had the zeal to get make music and do music. Have you even tried girls for music?
02:11No, I had to switch, I had to switch but yeah I am today. But jokes aside when was that moment when
02:20you decided you wanted to do this full-time? Full-time that was when I when I left in Ilaro I
02:26studied um public administration at Ilaro at Polytechnic so the moment I left I used like a year at home
02:33so the other year my dad was like go back for the mission. I was like no I don't want to go back because I just
02:38decided that I was going to venture more into the music so I went to Peft Institute to study music
02:44technology yeah. And so were you recording? Were you putting out music? Yeah at that time no at that
02:50time I was recording I was building myself with my guys then sound keys, shoe keys and the rest so
02:58that face was the face for me building myself to this stage that I am today. Okay was that when you got
03:05the name Mr. Fido? No the name was from my secondary school. Mathematics, my mathematics teacher
03:11at that time I just got into the school it was a new comma in the school yeah so my first time in this
03:18class you know when I stepped inside the class and he saw me I was like ah this guy look like
03:25seven up character at the cartoon so that's how the game didn't just stop to me.
03:30He was like if he didn't fit and then I was tiny too. Oh god he didn't get to it. Yeah so that's how I got to do it.
03:37I mean were you the kind of kid who performed in school who liked to make music? Yeah I was always this jovial
03:44type of person I do make people laugh. At that time I even thought I was going to be a comedian because
03:50at that time when I say little things people just laugh. So yeah I'm the type of person that I get when people
03:55around me it's always form to this lively yeah. I mean you broke out with Awolowo and now we have
04:03like a slew of records where you know you're nationwide you're known nationwide like give us the backstory
04:09behind Awolowo for instance. Awolowo there's a lot involved though because it's involving the herbs you
04:16understand what I'm trying to say. So Awolowo um it's like a spiritual song for me like I said it follows the
04:23hips if that's the right word for me to say on tv. Nah we get it we get it. Yeah so um
04:29the inspiration just came I was with my producer he played the beats on me and the moment I heard the
04:36beats I just picked from there. So it was a freestyle? It was not a freestyle I just took my record
04:44industry and inspiration just came. So it's divine yeah. How do you make music typically if you want to
04:53um I would say it's to me it's easy for me. I make music sometimes it might be the beat that would
04:59take me to get where I want to be and sometimes I just be an inspiration that I have already gotten
05:06already yeah and I speak to my producer we talk on how to he gets great and get great whatever sound to
05:12match what I've created in my mind and we make it happen. What about Joy is Coming? Ah Joy is Coming
05:19coming was um a song I did with my guys we were having a music camp at that time
05:28the producer came to the moment he slammed
05:30like joy is coming so actually I never wrote the song the moment I heard the beats I just knew the beat was for joy
05:41yeah so how do you enjoy the ideas for your songs because as you're dropping fistiles you know you're
05:47dropping messages as well yes what inspires you it's divine it's god I don't know how I do it sometimes
05:52sometimes I see myself and I'll be like you know how do you record all this you know forget unique
05:58songs and music that you have but I tend to know that it's just imbued it's called
06:03thank you so what about for joy is coming yeah yeah biggest father degraded that's um a massive um feature
06:13on joy is coming from i've been like a very close um boy to vado since i ventured my journey into the
06:25music industry and um the relationship has been yeah unrepresented okay that's how we call connected
06:32okay because you know your songs are very diverse there's a song called money moves yeah there's a
06:38song called joy is coming and you hear the sound you know that they're quite distinct so what types of
06:44music would you say you were listening to when you were growing up and how did you like shape this
06:49i listen to all genres of music hip-hop power and b fuji in one palace at that time i like
06:57i'll give you some notes um the likes of sony adee villa um at that time two face
07:06for the rappers then lee wing two pack and um and those and those and those yeah so so when you were
07:16trying to just like shape your own sound right now yeah what did you start with i would not say i started
07:25with one particular journey to me i just feel like when i create my sound it's just natural it's just
07:31you get it's unique yeah it's just video sound that's for me it's my sound it's afro it's african so
07:40a little bit of down so on your down so yeah like i said it's just natural so i mix
07:45both joints together i might come with um an arabic flow and i switch it to an alphabet flow you
07:54understand yeah so it depends on how the um sound gets to me yeah can i just do my part okay i mean
08:03speaking on you know doing your parts you know pushing your career and all of that there was a road
08:09between you and some of your formatting interface mp uh i know you don't want to touch much i don't
08:15want to talk i don't want to talk about it because it's been in the past and now we are in the future
08:20how do you feel about it now and how do you feel about the rest of the journey yeah i feel blessed i
08:25feel um i would like to put the word i am grateful to god for the journey and this has been going
08:34easy for me and yeah and there's more to come more greatness to come okay so speaking on collabs
08:41you are some of the people that are still on your radar to work with within the industry
08:44there are loads and loads of artists i'm willing to work with in the future from an upcoming project
08:50to come i can't list name from that because i really don't know where i was gonna be or sure i have
08:57people that i'm planning to work with okay in the future yeah okay so when you're not making music
09:03what is you do typically up to
09:08it's always music okay so from morning to night music all day well i mean for you if you're not
09:15okay if i'm not making music i'm chilling with my guys either playing the video games or either
09:20researching or that's but most of the time with music so okay yeah i mean um i would have asked you
09:29to sing something for us for i would actually need you to sing something for us
09:34and you heard it from mr fido himself and just to wrap up um what's the vision for your career moving on
09:59yeah the vision is higher than what i can do vision to as well because i see myself
10:04tapping into that global space making sure that yes i be a good example for alphabets worldwide and
10:12yes the vision is wider than what i said i should have mentioned because you're missing you performing
10:18around like you know across nigeria and so many other places so like uh are you going to headline any
10:25show this year like anything if you do live if i would be headlining any shows you guys will get
10:31to know that's okay i mean i'll keep you guys updated my plans all over the world you'll get
10:36updated thank you okay and thank you so much for joining us you're welcome keep spending more love
