"Women in Medicine", il ruolo strategico delle donne in campo medico

Nel mondo le donne rappresentano il 70% del personale medico sanitario, ma ricoprono soltanto il 25% dei ruoli di leadership: uno squilibrio che ha un impatto negativo sui sistemi sanitari.    [idarticle id="2494626" title="Riforma dei medici di famiglia: cosa succede?"]    In occasione della Giornata internazionale delle donne e delle ragazze nella scienza (11 febbraio), la Fondazione Operation Smile Italia ETS - impegnata nel fornire cure e assistenza sanitaria alle persone con malformazioni del volto nei Paesi a basso e medio reddito - ribadisce il suo supporto a favore delle donne in campo medico.    [idarticle id="2081449" title="Operation Smile, a Milano il primo centro di cura europeo per le malformazioni del volto"]    Il programma Women in Medicine (WIM) ha lo scopo di formare le professioniste dei Paesi a basso e medio reddito in specialità mediche avanzate e di rafforzare la loro leadership.  Women in Medicine, per le donne medico dal 2020  Il programma Women in Medicine è stato lanciato per la prima volta nel 2020 a Oujda, nel nord-est del Marocco con 95 professioniste del settore medico-sanitario e volontarie di Operation Smile provenienti da 23 Paesi, ognuna con competenze specialistiche diverse. Sempre nell’ambito del programma WIM, Operation Smile ha partecipato ad attività come la Women Deliver Conference in Ruanda e i lavori della Commissione delle Nazioni Unite sullo status delle donne.    [idarticle id="2450379" title="Vittime di guerra in Medio Oriente, la loro rinascita diventa una mostra"]  Accesso alle cure per tutti  Nel mondo 5 miliardi di persone non hanno accesso alle cure chirurgiche e si stima servirebbero circa altri 2,2 milioni di chirurghi, anestesisti e ostetrici per soddisfare la domanda globale.    «Per colmare questo gap, il ruolo delle donne è cruciale - sottolinea Marcella Bianco, Direttore Generale della Fondazione Operation Smile Italia ETS - e in Operation Smile siamo consapevoli che l’health equity è strettamente legata alla gender equity. E per riuscire ad ottenere piena ed equa partecipazione delle donne in ambito sanitario è necessario rimuovere gli ostacoli socioculturali che frenano il loro accesso in medicina. Il limitato numero di modelli e leader femminili, nonché di opportunità lavorative, di mentorship e le pressioni sociali rappresentano un ostacolo alla partecipazione e all’avanzamento di carriera. 00:00So when you think about those women that helped take care of you when you were little, that

00:06were there when you were hurt or afraid, what can you do for them? Imagine that we could

00:12create a different paradigm. So Women in Medicine is about bringing women into the workforce,

00:23helping them to advance and train in the healthcare workforce, lifting them up in

00:29leadership positions in the workforce. We know right now 70% of the workforce in

00:38medicine is women, but yet they only have 25% of the senior leadership. So how do we

00:45balance that out a little bit? Women in Medicine will do that in four ways. One, we will continue

00:52to help provide these opportunities for intense mentorship. Two, we'll help invest in women's

01:00journeys towards advancing their education in medicine so that they can enter the workforce,

01:06advance in the workforce, and become leaders in the workforce. Three, we're going to help

01:12with the thought leadership and the development of the importance and the relevance of moving

01:17women into the workforce as a solution to the global problem. And finally, Women in Medicine

01:24will be conducting research about gender inequities, the barriers to women entering the workforce,

01:30and what some interventions are that could be the most effective. That will help not only them,

01:36but children. That will increase our provider density. That will increase access to the services

01:42that children need. A large body of studies shows that the more gender equity there is in the workforce,

01:51the more health outcome equity there is in the population.

01:57Some of them who had baby girls or little girls said, like, this way I'm going to be able to tell my

02:04girl when she grows up that she can become a doctor, that she can be a psychologist, that she can be a nurse.

02:10That's where Women in Medicine is right now, this powerful place of designing what are the most impactful programs

02:17and initiatives and interventions that we can design to help women become empowered and step into their power.
