00:00I am standing on a bridge in Srinagar and behind me is the jahlium which is flowing over the danger mark.
00:07Continuous rainfall since yesterday has triggered a flood-like situation.
00:13It has scared people as it echoes the memories of 2014 flood.
00:19In 2014 large-scale parts of the valley were flooded resulting in damage and destruction.
00:28But now with incessant rains in the valley, again people are scared as fear of water entering their localities return.
00:42In fact, several villages have been submerged and over 2500 people were evacuated to safer places.
00:52But with the Materiological Center in Srinagar predicting more rains till evening, people are dead.
01:02There is a growing fear that it might lead to more water in the river.
01:09And this river was the key source of the flood in 2014.
01:16This river passes through more than five districts in the valley before entering Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
01:24And it was this river which flowed over the embankment.
01:29In the last several years, there has been flood mitigation plan in place.
01:35But many experts and in fact the chief minister has also pointed out some loopholes.
01:44With sharp rise in the waters, the government has pressed men and machinery into service.
01:50With control rooms have been set up both in the valley as well as in Jammu.
01:56More than one lakh standbacks have been ready to prevent any breeze in rivers and tributaries.
02:03But with more rains predicted ahead for the next couple of hours, the valley is on the edge.
