00:00Meteorological fall is here and that means leaf peeping season is just weeks away.
00:06AccuWeather long range expert Paul Pastelock says how vibrant or dull fall foliage is in
00:12a given area is directly related to the weather in the spring, summer and early fall.
00:17We need to have a good wet growing season or at least near average precipitation.
00:23We don't need drought.
00:24It causes more stress on the trees and as we get into early fall, it's very helpful
00:30to get bright sunlight.
00:32For those seeking the most vibrant foliage in the country this year, Pastelock says you'll
00:38want to head to the central U.S., the eastern Carolinas or the northeast.
00:43And while the northeast is expected to have a great season, Pastelock says you may want
00:48to get there early as recent dry conditions could impact the season's overall length.
00:54Get out early when they start to really go and get a good viewing then before any of
00:58the big storms knock the leaves down because of the stress caused by the dry conditions.
01:03Pastelock says there are multiple regions in the country that can expect duller foliage this
01:07fall including portions of Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Oregon where drought and fires have caused
01:14stress on trees.
01:16Another area of concern is from east Texas to Alabama and on up into the central Appalachian
01:21mountains.
01:22This is an area that has seen a lot of rainfall since the late spring.
01:27Now we have dried out recently but still this area could, the trees may be dealing with
01:32some stress, some fungus, some insects.
01:36As you plan your fall foliage excursions, be sure to check the AccuWeather app for the
01:40latest forecast.
