00:10On Tuesday, the region was hit by a powerful 5.5 magnitude aftershock,

00:15sparking fears of more damage and more deaths.

00:19The death toll has already exceeded 1,400, with more than 3,500 people injured.

00:25The UN has vowed to spare no efforts, but warned that funding is insufficient.

00:30Already supporting the response by deploying critical items to areas that can be reached.

00:36For example, our colleagues at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency,

00:40are deploying pre-positioned essential relief items from stockpiles in Kabul.

00:45That includes tents, that also includes blankets and solar lamps.

00:49Countries including the UK, EU, India, China and the UAE have all pledged support.

00:57It's the third major earthquake to hit Afghanistan since the Taliban seized power in 2021.

01:04It's also the latest crisis for a country reeling from deep cuts to aid funding,

01:09a weak economy and millions of people forcibly returned from Iran and Pakistan.
