Shocking CCTV footage captured the exact moment a powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan, causing widespread panic and destruction across Mazar-e-Sharif and surrounding provinces.
At least 10 people have been confirmed dead and more than 260 injured, with officials warning that the toll may rise as rescue teams reach remote areas. The USGS reported the quake hit at a depth of 28 km, shaking a region home to nearly half a million people.
Health workers rushed dozens of survivors to hospitals across Samangan province, while the Taliban Defence Ministry confirmed that Balkh and Samangan suffered the worst damage. Military and rescue teams continue to pull survivors from collapsed structures as aftershocks threaten further instability.
Part of the historic Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif also sustained damage, with videos showing emergency crews working through the rubble.
