00:00My name is Dr. Haridas P. Mani, a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Kaveri Hospital Vada Pallani.
00:07In the case of prostate cancer, it is a cancer of the elderly.
00:17But there are sometimes young generations in the 40 years, 50 years and the patients have prostate cancer.
00:25This is a genetic issue.
00:30Elderly patients have most common symptoms are fall, memory loss.
00:38Third symptom is urine, urgency, increased frequency.
00:46Usually, normal people will pass three to four times.
00:57But if they have prostate cancer, they will go for at least seven to eight times in the day.
01:05They will get up at night and they will pass six to eight times.
01:20Next is hesitancy.
01:22Urine can be very hesitant.
01:25Urine can have straining or pain.
01:29Sometimes there is blood in the urine.
01:32This is a red flag sign.
01:34There is prostate cancer.
01:37In prostate cancer, there is a simple blood test to detect prostate cancer.
01:43A blood test is PSA, prostate specific antigen.
01:48Usually, there is a value less than four.
01:51But in prostate cancer, there is a value higher.
01:54That is itself an indication that this person will be having prostate cancer, infection or inflammation.
02:03How do we know?
