00:01Previously on Project Runway,
00:03you will be making a prom dress for them.
00:06I was very scared.
00:07I don't want to hem this.
00:09What do you mean you don't want to hem it, darling?
00:11That would be unfinished.
00:12I'm not going to do it.
00:14It's a thing in the sleeve here.
00:15You want another sleeve there?
00:17I'm not a dressmaker.
00:18Very cute.
00:19I literally want to rip the dress off and give up.
00:23Congratulations, Victoria.
00:32You are the winner of this challenge.
00:34I just don't like the fact that you're blaming Maddie.
00:38She looks like she's 35 years old.
00:41I am distracted by the Hemming.
00:44Kevin, you're out.
00:46The winner of Project Runway will receive a spread in Elle magazine,
00:53an opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com,
00:57an all-new 2008 Saturn Astra,
00:59and $100,000 to start their own line,
01:02furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
01:04This is Project Runway.
01:06Let's go.
01:07Hell yes, I'm the best.
01:09You're either in or you're out.
01:11I'm in, they're out.
01:13I would be caught dead in his clothes.
01:15Fashion is my life.
01:16Who will be the next big fashion designer?
01:18That's me.
01:19Bottom line, I'm the best.
01:21I will own the runway.
01:23For these 15 designers,
01:24Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
01:37So how do you feel about yesterday, Christian?
01:39About what? My client?
01:41That almost got me eliminated.
01:43I had such a hard time with the prom challenge.
01:46I shouldn't have really been in the bottom two, though.
01:49I know my dress wasn't that great,
01:51but God, others were not cute.
01:54Ask me about any challenge, I've probably been up there.
01:56Yeah.
01:58After last night's elimination,
02:00it's just a reminder that I got a lot of work to do.
02:03I'll miss Kevin, but I'm glad it's not me.
02:06All right, bitches, let's go.
02:09We've got to find out what our challenge is.
02:19Hello.
02:20Hello.
02:21Before I tell you about your next challenge,
02:23let's bring out your models.
02:25Yes.
02:26Oh, my God.
02:30What's going on?
02:31What's going on?
02:32What's going on?
02:33What's going on?
02:34What?
02:35You've probably noticed something different
02:36about your models today.
02:37And that's because, for your next challenge,
02:39you will be creating an avant-garde look
02:42inspired by your models' hairstyle.
02:44style the challenge really just couldn't be better this is the challenge that I'm
02:49the most excited about this is an opportunity for you to push yourselves
02:53as designers and to create something artistic and conceptual models because
03:00you weren't used in the last challenge there are ten of you in a designers so
03:07the two of you will be out Victoria you won the last challenge so you get the
03:14first pick I would love to stick with Jacqueline
03:23kit okay good Marie sweet pea this is tough because of the hairdos I'm sorry I
03:31want to pick Lee sorry I feel so bad but I pick Lee over Katie her hair was
03:37nothing Lee's was fierce Jillian I'm staying with Lauren Chris Marcia Rami I
03:46would love to work with Sam Christian Lisa I picked Lisa who was my first model
03:52god she is so high fashion Katie a viva Amanda two of you will be out Ricky you
04:05have a hard decision to make I'm sorry ladies you're all beautiful but I want to
04:10play with Amanda
04:15Katie viva I'm sorry you're out
04:22Tim is waiting for you in the workroom to fill you in and some of the details
04:30good luck and I see you on the runway
04:33bye
04:34bye
04:36designers as Heidi said for this challenge you'll be creating an avant-garde look
04:46inspired by your model's hairstyle this look does not have to be practical it
04:51doesn't even have to be very wearable an avant-garde look is by definition
04:55ambitious because of that you will be working in teams of two I will draw your
05:04names from this bag to determine the teams so team one is Ket and Ricky team two
05:17sweet pea with Rami team three Chris with Christian I was like all he does is costume and crazy he's gonna come up with something fabulous who's left Victoria and Jillian all right you'll have 30 minutes to determine which
05:43model's hairstyle will inspire the look for this challenge
05:47your budget is $300 and you will have two days each team must choose a team leader
05:56I'm gonna send her your models use your time well thank you it's gonna have to be one girl I know we gotta look at their hair
06:06since you worked at Alexander McQueen do you want to be the team leader I'm so scared I'm gonna get eliminated no I really don't want to be leader because I don't want to be eliminated but then I feel really strongly about this challenge
06:21let's just decide who should we use I think hers is more glamorous we chose Marcia she's very tall and
06:31gorgeous what if we did the entire dress in circles of organza thousands thousands we're gonna do this in
06:39the most diplomatic ways I'm sorry your hair is more easy to work with sorry girl Maria's hair looks like a
06:45bird's nest so we decided to use my model Marie our whole concept is based off this idea of nesting in my
06:54head these are all totally different fabrics that look together I like that idea it just worked out
07:00naturally that I would be the team leader because it's basically my concept fantastic Rami and I decided we
07:08will pick Sam as our model he is the leader because my mind doesn't really naturally go to the avant-garde
07:15wow the chiffon is restricted in one area of the bodice and then just pretty much really falls out into a
07:20gown of some sort you know the vision for this avant-garde piece is hard and soft I'm using that concept to
07:27create curvy lines and then freely falling out just like her hair so what were you thinking so I thought
07:32about like kind of an apocalyptic dramatic trench coat it's actually when I saw Jacqueline I know
07:38that she definitely has a very heavy like 80s punk reference there was not gonna be a chance in hell
07:43that either of us were gonna say okay you be the leader it was not gonna happen I think we should
07:47just flip a coin unless we flip this and if it lands face up okay okay okay okay are you cool with that I am I'm
07:58a little uncomfortable about some of the things I think we need to just really solidify a story here
08:03right okay designers time's up we're going shopping
08:12we have $300 for this challenge oh look at this one that we are getting different fabrics that work with the
08:18colors that we talked about oh my god this is beautiful
08:21mommy
08:22sweet be
08:24is there enough yeah there's two these two rolls that's not 40 yards we need so much fabric we need
08:32probably 50 yards of organza oh this is better this is way better perfect thank you oh wow we have a lot
08:52I don't want it to look like little house on the prairie our avant-garde look started with the idea of the hair being a
09:00bird's nest so we did a theme of a girl who'd be in a garden and many aprons to represent layering
09:06this is some serious drama like it's the girl in me and it's the bitch in you
09:12the bottom
09:14feroche if I was a diva my name would be feroche
09:18marcia has this huge kind of romantic braided bun so the gown is literally hundreds of layers of tiered
09:26circular ruffles and we'll have this giant neck piece and i'm trying to build us a cell phone tower
09:33so we can call out
09:34how about if it takes us to elisa's planet didn't you know elisa left me these instructions
09:39unless you feel otherwise i'd like to style the collar up and just kind of tipping over here awesome
09:44the model's hair gives the effect of a mohawk so it allowed us to come up with this theme of like
09:53rebellion and i'm kind of replicating that hairstyle down the back of the trench coat that i'm making
09:59victoria's working on the shirt and the pants two days is never enough time for anything for me
10:04and victoria and i are both people who struggle with time management so i'm pretty worried about it
10:12so why don't you put it on the dress form and try to put a french seam in the center front okay
10:20i chose to take over the corset and sort of the gown part of the outfit because it's
10:28very intricate and detailed so i asked sweet pete if she's able to do a pair of trousers and she
10:34reassured me that she can do it
10:36do you want to make the apron and the thing oh yeah you want me to do that instead yeah let me
10:50just bone her boner and then make the apron pin it extremely straight all the way down
10:58do you feel comfortable with that are you i think what is slowing me down is actually having to
11:04constantly answer and attend to uh sweet pea because she's struggling with um a pair of pants i just feel
11:11like the pants should be almost finished that's my only concern um because there's so much work in here
11:17look dude we wanted to accomplish getting the pant and the corset sewn and we've finished those and we've
11:24also draped most of the gown so i'm not really comprehending why he's so stressed out when we are
11:31actually ahead of the game these are almost done okay cool all right i'm just uh thinking ahead any
11:37dysfunction that happens in the team i feel like i'm going to be blamed for it my ass is on the line
11:43basically here coming up on project runway i have a special announcement to make oh my god
11:50my reaction is horror nausea
12:04all right man do i have enough cigarettes for the day i'm kind of worried to go into parsons today
12:11because rami just seemed upset last night so i am hoping things are a little different this morning
12:20oh sweet pea's a little dyslexic i never know what door to open you're gonna go do the ruffles
12:30the crinoline okay and i'm gonna just keep doing this yeah we're there girl work the challenge is to do
12:37something avant-garde inspired by a model's hair and it can be anything so i'm excited what do you think
12:44should be done something out the back maybe i do think bustle some drama what is the goal because it
12:51could look like and be over the top of course and i mentioned bustling a few times and if we build the
12:56back of the dress out i thought it would look really cool but he's not really listening let me take over
13:02this okay designers may i ask you to gather around please
13:12i have a special announcement to make uh-oh get scared of special announcements yeah
13:21there will be another look walking down the runway tomorrow
13:24another look i wanted to throw up oh my god i was so pissed each of your teams must create a ready
13:37to wear garment that embodies the essence of your avant-garde look let me assert that every major
13:45fashion designer must do this provoke and inspire with high-end conceptual work and translate it to
13:51saleable ready to wear and this has to be done by tomorrow by tomorrow oh my god you will have an
13:58additional budget of fifty dollars for this look and we're going to give you until 1 a.m i'm going
14:03to give you 15 minutes to talk among yourselves and then we'll be going to mood where you'll have 15
14:08minutes to shop and only one team member must go i'm going to give you 15 minutes to caucus and i'll be
14:14back thank you okay so i already had an idea last dress skirt huh dress dress dress simple dress
14:21and then we do a band mm-hmm right away kit looks at me she's like we should do something like a little
14:26dress and i said you know what i'll figure it out i'll drape it it's cake for me i i do it day in and
14:31day out but i want to pick out the fabric we'll just do the simple little chic little outfit i'm not
14:38scared at all just focus on one whoever gets finished starts a shirt dress when yeah i'm already
14:47off schedule so my reaction is horror nausea i think navy why is it maybe because it kind of ties in with
14:56the pant and but the i feel like it makes it day i feel like it makes it day though navy's not so much
15:03day i think right away i have an idea and he's immediately like i don't like that color and i'm
15:08like okay sketch for me what you have in mind i go from the form the most i can't be in the dark
15:14i feel like you don't trust that i'm gonna because you don't seem too sure about it you're not telling
15:18me what you're doing i'm not i'm totally sure your sketch so i'm confused sweet bee was not clear to
15:24what she wanted to design but since we are a team i really need to know what it's going to be i'm not
15:30asking for a long okay all right designers your 15 minutes is up i'm leading the group to mood
15:39who's coming with me okay thank you jillian pray for us
15:49love you back oh wait i need that friend i chose to go to mood just because i'm fast and i kind of knew
15:55exactly what i needed like this is my main choices here like a gray oh that's gorgeous i just started
16:01running around and i found some beautiful silver shantung and i think i'll get something really cute
16:07out of this um yeah yeah let's cut that just give me a yard and a half i think i can make feel i pulled
16:13everything together that i needed let's get this fabric and get out of here so we can make something with
16:19it time's up let's sit back to the work room now okay
16:26okay hi kajillion went good let me show you what i bought i got this cool so i will start
16:33draping but i'll just show you just show me on to the next one from fantasy to reality designers i'm
16:41bringing in the models so you can have a fitting yay they'll be here for about 30 minutes all right thank
16:47you use your time well make it work hi come on in have fun hi ladies hey how are you good how are you
16:56i love this here i think but i'm not sure if i love it here i think it makes it more interesting no
17:02i think rami did end up putting way too much stuff on the dress and he disagreed with me but i definitely
17:10don't think adding so much stuff to it is what would be considered avant-garde step in this is going to be
17:16so heavy this looks crazy i'm so excited once marie put our avant-garde look on it really transformed
17:25the whole piece you have to step back and say wow this is really cool dude it looks so good
17:31as usual i only have a pant on you so at least it's something so jillian has nothing that she
17:37not yet because her dress is pretty much really done okay great i'm glad you're done everybody's done
17:44except for me and victoria great we are still in development phase and we weren't completely prepared
17:51to have a full fitting my concern is that victoria is immune for this challenge and ultimately if we're
17:59on the bottom it's immediately me who has to go oh my god oh yeah i told you she's magical wait just
18:07dislocate my shoulders is this hurt make it a little looser okay don't kill her what i hope happens
18:15tomorrow at the runway show is that our model marcia comes out and people's jaws drop to the floor
18:23and they never forget it as long as they live burn oh burn it up girl yes you gotta bring it back
18:32girls you gotta bring it back from the side and turn
18:36oh that's that's good that's really cute thank you yeah rami's letting me do the ready-to-wear look
18:48and it's super cute and it's it's totally me i need you to finish the dress and on the pants i'm gonna
18:55finish these okay i need to know when we're gonna finish that's all i'm entitled so i walk into
19:00the work room and sweet pea has been on the cutting table for quite some time i'm leading the team
19:07i need to make sure that everything's going on schedule my ass is on the line okay i'm leading
19:12your team no mine is more than yours please understand that that's all i need you to do please
19:16okay i'm totally gonna finish these that's it it's so simple what i'm doing okay let's just have a
19:21time plan that's all i'm asking for sweet pea gets defensive so i'm feeling like i need to be
19:32extremely careful and it's draining a lot of my energy it makes it hard for me to work
19:37you have to i'm almost done sorry no it's okay i know this is hard this whole thing i just was like
19:49so mad this is rough you know like i told him to just calm down i wish rami would just like please
19:56get off my back thank you coming up on project runway i'm worried the problem here is that we think
20:07differently i'm just hoping we don't end up in some kind of fist fight
20:11designers and models may i ask you to gather round please designers and models
20:28i have a special guest i want to introduce
20:41please welcome nathaniel hawkins nathaniel is lead stylist for the tresemme haircare creative team
20:47welcome to parsons the new school for design thank you for having me nathaniel's here to consult with
20:52you on the hairstyle for your ready to wear look what we're going to do today is to translate the
20:58avant-garde hairstyle into a look for the everyday woman we want to create something that is beautiful
21:04effortless yet practical and nathaniel has a special announcement to make
21:08the winning team's looks and models will be featured in a tresemme ad in el magazine wow
21:15thanks nathaniel thank you to be in el magazine for tresemme that's exciting and it makes us want to
21:24work harder hello hello unheard i would do a little bit of fullness and create a smaller more elegant shape
21:33sounds perfect we still can create the smoother crown building into a very loose yeah i love it
21:40perfect so jacqueline has that crazy faux hawk yes i thought that we could do hair pressed perfectly
21:48smooth with the long luxurious hair strong side part and we'll get a nice soft shape it will be so
21:57pretty in her thanks nathaniel bye sweet pea have a good night
22:08hi everybody how's team fierce well what do you think well i have to tell you guys this is staggering
22:17but this translation to ready to wear worries me this looks kind of cheap oh my god i think it looks so
22:24expensive i'm dubious okay i think it'll be very chic and i'll totally fight that if i have to
22:33kit ricky yes we're very excited all right all these ribbons are gonna just become a big giant nest
22:42it's a costume and the answer is yeah but it's conceptual is there anything else you can do to
22:49dramatize this does it need more of this to punch it up no i don't know about that just have it be
22:58exuberant thank you okay just do it santa maria let's go so rami yes sweet pea how are you doing good
23:07this is the corset gown that's worn as a blouse is this going to surprise them or is this going to be
23:15what they expect you don't think it's over the top enough is what you're saying we're asking you to
23:19go many steps higher and have you gone high enough they have not seen me do course of ten
23:26the only thing i'm going to say i'm worried okay the problem here is that we think differently and
23:33we're working as a team and it's it's a conflict i think that's more on our work process well how
23:40has the experience been so far i want you to talk a little bit how is that the way you work together
23:44we just both work really differently we do so it's been it's been difficult tim is saying this dress
23:51looks too much like you rami it's like what does that have to do with how we work as a team other
23:57than he won't let me in all right carry on okay thanks victoria jillian how are you doing we're doing
24:04okay stress for time we're just moving as fast as we can possibly move i want to assert that this
24:11coat is fabulous if you can achieve this this is incredible yeah the second outfit we haven't even
24:20started it it's a matter of finishing this and it's a matter of that second look okay carry on
24:28thank you thanks dan i'll be in the sewing room okay i think i will join you jillian oh great
24:40so right now we're not talking and it's a little tense i'm totally expecting to be in the bottom
24:45tomorrow that's one reason i really wanted to pull my dress together so that i can stand strong with
24:51something really great on the runway myself what all right you mother come on
25:08by the end of the evening i still had some finishings to do on my two garments julian as
25:15well had not completely finished her coat i have no idea if we're going to be able to
25:20to even start the second look let's go so tired oh i can't even walk
25:37everybody ready i'm kind of wondering how rami's going to be today i'm just hoping we don't end up
25:45in some kind of fist fight okay let's go i'm ready i'll be waiting i just want to make sure that it
26:02looks like an expensive enough dress the first thing that i do is start on that second dress in order to
26:09finish i'm going to move like the speed of light today good morning designers hi tim i'm going to
26:16be sending in your ready-to-wear models momentarily your avant-garde models are already in hair you'll
26:23have a two-hour period of time to send your models to the l'oreal paris makeup room in the tresemme hair
26:28salon all right hi darling let me try this on you see with the no sleeves it's done very chic i think
26:37it's cute it's a dress it's super casual the ready-to-wear dress looks really simple i would have
26:44liked to have done it in a different fabric but because we were telling kit's story that's the story
26:48it's perfect it's fine it's what it is so this is going to be your front section
27:10just put your hands up couture hilarity make sure the face is always tucked in
27:17in all honesty i know we're going to win just has to happen i smell transomate right here
27:27it's the least of my problems right okay in the end i put the second dress on my model
27:32but it is like a last minute afterthought it's beautiful can you come if he's a friend amanda
27:37i can do it here i really like our final garment because i think it stands apart from the other
27:42designers i am a little bit nervous however because it's just really different from where
27:48everyone else went are you sure about these boots well yeah designers and models this is it we're going
27:54down to the runway okay so follow me let's go let me meet it i'm just worried that you got you jillian
28:01victoria we've got to go we definitely lived up to team last minute i was proud that
28:08we did a great job on the avant-garde look i think it would be amazing if we wanted i just
28:14at this point i'm not convinced that that will happen thank you coming up on project runway
28:21i wonder if there's something else that you can do it just does not look well made
28:26welcome to the runway as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out for
28:43this challenge we had you work in teams of two to create two looks an avant-garde look inspired by
28:50your model's hairstyle and a second ready-to-wear look that captures the essence of the avant-garde
28:57outfit the winning outfits will be featured in a tresemme ad in el magazine let's meet the judges
29:07first we have top american designer michael chorus hey guys next we have nina garcia fashion director
29:13of el magazine hi everyone and acclaimed italian designer alberta ferretti hello hi yeah we will
29:21score your designs as they come down the runway one of you will be named the winner and tonight only one
29:28of you will be out let's start the show
29:33i'm very happy as i'm watching sam walk down the runway i feel like i created something that is
29:46original and beautiful
29:52i definitely really loved my dress i loved rami's too you know i just think maybe it wasn't big or grand
30:00enough
30:10i always watched the judges faces and nina garcia could not keep the look off of her face i think
30:17that she was impressed by it my avant-garde look was amazing the couture pose is all about the cinched
30:25waist and hunched shoulders it was such a shock factor from the beginning to the end
30:30and the ready-to-wear look was so chic and looked beautiful so i was 10 000 happy
30:43i'm definitely happy with the avant-garde look but i see the very serious fashion of all the other
30:51designers and ricky and i didn't go that direction so that makes me very nervous
31:01to have a second look you really get the extremes you get the really high and really low of the whole
31:06story we were excited because she looked amazing
31:19we loved the silhouette we were both happy jacqueline really executed that look to perfection and i don't
31:27think that any other model could have done it like she did
31:37i was proud that we did finish the ready-to-wear look but i wasn't satisfied with it at all
31:43we've scored your designs will the following teams please step forward ramy and sweet pea
32:00kit and ricky your teams have the lowest scores
32:05but first we're going to talk to the teams with the highest scores you can leave the runway
32:19okay let's bring out your models
32:21christian what was your thought process with your look when i first saw marcia's hair we took it as
32:40like a very romantic um old world feeling whose design was it he came up with the color idea and we
32:48decided on the model we just kind of went i can do this you can do that and this is 45 yards of fabric
32:54just like you know can we see the back it's amazing because it's is a very complicated race
33:03it's a couture dress but the job is amazing congratulations thank you seven it looks beautifully
33:12crafted it's certainly important and exciting looking i think it's very soigne and i think that
33:20the ready-to-wear the blouse is great looking but i think the skirt's a little bit of a throwaway let's
33:24be honest yeah it's not perfect i know but obviously as a team you guys worked well together it could be
33:31a cover try this this look it's it's really really beautiful okay victoria tell us about your avant-garde
33:39look the immediate reference we had was something very punk with an equestrian le motif the silhouette
33:46is very beautiful cutting very well yes can we see the blouse in the in the pants i like the dishes
33:53i do too why'd you hide them yeah why because the coat is so beautiful can i see the back of the
33:58choppers it's adorable the there the back of the blouse is great and i don't mind the tartan little
34:05black dress i mean i think it's cute we had three looks no you do you have three looks so we should
34:11win okay we've heard what you had to say we can leave the runway thank you
34:18all right let's bring out the teams with the lowest scores
34:35rami please tell us about your avant-garde look when i first looked at sam instantly i thought of a
34:42corset and i imagined something that is flowy and we paired it with a pair of pants to kind of create
34:48sort of two odds and have them meet together who did what exactly here i made the gown with the corset
34:58sweet pea made the pants and the dress it's a cute dress the commercial dress in this instance to me
35:05is more forward looking than the avant-garde piece rami i know that you do draping impeccably i wonder
35:13if there's something else that you can do the dress the volume is not so dramatic and it's too normal
35:19maybe the shape of the trouser could have been more masculine can we see what they look like now
35:25that she looks like her ass is in her front but the gown could have had something that when she
35:31walked out it just went woof i wanted to add something back here like an explosion out of her
35:36rear you know i know it sounds kooky but you know i think that he was really taking ownership of his
35:43design and didn't really want me putting too much into it we were two odds working together and that's
35:48what sort of took away from the um loudness we work different ways yes but you do know that the best
35:55design teams are not people who are exactly the same or else you're just sitting and telling you're
36:01fabulous you know you're fabulous i mean you want someone else's opinion you get nothing you get
36:05nothing and you just you you were arm wrestling the whole time
36:13kit how did you divide up the work between the two of you i made the skirt and ricky made the corset
36:20and the ready-to-wear dress it's so strange that dress because it's not avant-garde it's cheap it's real
36:27cheap it's a little scarlet o'hara but in a cheap way i have to say what alberta said about you know
36:36scarlett o'hara ripped the drapes down but she made a couture dress out of her drapes this she ripped the
36:41sheets off the bed and ran out the door i think also it just does not look well made you know if you
36:47look at the satin it is all like wrinkly it i feel like it needs to be steamed or something if i were
36:55pulling for a couture avant-garde photo shoot this would not be it and i think the ready-to-wear outfit
37:04is equally disappointing
37:08okay we've heard what you had to say we're going to have a little chat and then i'm going to call you
37:11back you can leave the runway so who did we like christian and chris had a i think a remarkable
37:28avant-garde piece today is amazing job that is important and as a team they work together brilliantly
37:35normally you know two designers you stick two things together it looks like two things stuck together but
37:40in this case it didn't she looked like a photo shoot right there with victoria and julian i love
37:49the dress i love the pants and the shirt and i love the coat it just looked terrific very very good job
37:56in all directions you could see a lot of women really wanting to wear those clothes
38:02what do we think about rami and sweet pea's team he knows he can drape very well and that's what he
38:12consistently gives us but show us something else for a change his excuse was sleepy he was throwing
38:18her under the bus she executed the daytime dress very nicely yeah it was a great great little daytime dress
38:25and then kate and ricky i don't know if they even wrapped their head around the word avant-garde
38:34it's so strange because the realization is terrible she picked out these fabrics which i think looked
38:40very poor if they would have executed it in a beautiful way with beautiful materials it could have
38:46worked the one thing i will say though is the construction of that hoop from scratch that was good
38:53but it didn't help the look of the clothes and then the ready-to-wear dress truly looked
38:59like the poorest amateur everything looked amateur
39:07so we've made our decision yeah okay let's bring them back out
39:23one of you will be named the winner
39:27and one of you will be out

41:17and as a team leader that is your fault
