Advocate Grace Tame and MP Kate Chaney are sounding the alarm on AI generated child abuse apps. Video via AAP
Transcript
00:00We know that child sexual abuse is an awful crime.
00:06It's becoming more and more prolific.
00:08The nature of it is worsening because of AI tools
00:13that are enabling offenders to make their methods of abuse more sophisticated
00:18as well as make their methods of evading justice more sophisticated.
00:22We have a huge gap in prevention of child sexual abuse,
00:26specifically in how offenders are able to groom children.
00:33Regulating AI is challenging because the technology keeps changing,
00:37but we need to be able to react nimbly and fill the gaps in legislation
00:42as they occur rather than waiting for some big AI act
00:47that will cover everything.
00:49So I urge the government to really look at and implement
00:54the private members' bill that I introduced a few weeks ago
00:57that makes it an offence to download these tools
01:01that are designed to generate child sexual abuse material.
