00:00the beetles may have split more than 50 years ago but their influence shows no signs of fading
00:06their music put liverpool on the map and today the city still thrives on its most famous sons
00:11with beetles tourism alone worth millions of pounds a year heritage and tourism is such a big
00:17part of liverpool's economy its culture its music identity its purpose as a unesco city of music
00:26that it's really important to understand how everything evolved and more importantly where
00:30everything is going now an online master's course from the university of liverpool will explore the
00:36band's legacy far beyond music dr holly tesla is the program director of the course it is not a
00:44beetles pub quiz or you know we don't sit around and talk about our favorite albums or anything like
00:49that the beetles heritage is so important to liverpool but it's important we get it right
00:54nobody wants to see it become a tacky beetle city kind of shiny neon lights and tacky opportunities
01:01so i mean it's such an incredible story we need to manage it properly and manage it for 21st century
01:06audiences launching in september 2026 the part-time ma the beetles heritage and culture will examine
01:14the enduring cultural and economic impact of the band on liverpool and the surrounding city region
01:21it's important to understand that this is an advanced degree and what we do is we look at the
01:26beetles and the city of liverpool and heritage and culture as a template for what people could do who
01:32want to work in this industry elsewhere so if they come from a different part of the world what they
01:36could do is take this degree and then apply it students will consider how their legacy continues to
01:42impact areas such as urban planning and regeneration civic design heritage and the tourism and leisure
01:49industries as well as the music and creative industries too cara studied the original beetles
01:55ma after studying here for her undergraduate degree really made me open my eyes as to why the beetles are
02:01still so popular today and still so relevant and actually learned a lot about them that i didn't
02:05already know um obviously because this was like a lot of history 60 years worth of history so obviously i
02:11wouldn't know everything so it's just really just trying to expand what i already know about the beetles and
02:16sort of how i interpreted this and how it's interpreted by new audiences as well if you go
02:22down to the pier head and stand by the statues any time of day or night there are people there taking
02:27photos laying stuff down playing songs and it just it's a great place to see just how significant the
02:33beetles still are just so many different people from all countries around the world as well
02:38the city's global identity is so closely entwined with the beetles it's incredible that four lads from
02:43liverpool continue to have such a massive influence even decades after their dissolution if you tried to
02:50make it into a hollywood film nobody would believe it that you know four you know unassuming people
02:55from poor but honest liverpool could go on to be the biggest group in the world
