00:00Top 1%.
00:01At a time when large corporations are enjoying record-breaking profits,
00:09they got a $900 billion tax break.
00:14But it's even more disgusting than that,
00:17because these huge tax breaks for the rich, you know how they were paid for?
00:22They were paid for by a trillion dollar cut in Medicaid
00:26and a large cut in the Affordable Care Act.
00:30They were paid for by a massive cut in nutrition programs for hungry kids.
00:42How disgusting is it to give a tax break to a billionaire
00:47and take food out of the mouth of kids who are hungry in this country?
00:53It was paid for by massive cuts to education,
00:58which will make it harder for working-class kids to get the higher education that they need.
01:05But it goes even beyond that,
01:09because what happened is the word gets out to the Republicans
01:13that if you stand up and be clear that you're going to oppose this bill,
01:19we're going to destroy your political.
01:21There's a guy named Tom Tillis, senator from North Carolina.
01:25And Tillis made a mistake.
01:27He actually read the legislation.
01:29Big mistake.
01:30So the guy concludes, he says, I can't vote for this.
01:34It's a terrible piece.
01:35Hundreds of thousands of people in North Carolina are going to lose their health care.
01:39Can't vote for it.
01:40Within hours, Trump was on social media ripping this guy apart.
01:44Billionaires were saying, we are going to primary you.
01:46You are finished.
01:47And a few hours later, the guy says, I'm out of here.
01:49Forget it.
01:50I'm not going to run.
01:50I can't win.
01:51Billionaires are against me.
01:52It's all over.
01:53Earlier, a few months before that, we had a major budget bill,
01:56which was not great, but would have been helpful to working class people.
02:00Elon Musk sends out a tweet.
02:02He says, anybody who votes for this legislation,
02:05I am going to spend unlimited amounts of money to defeat you.
02:11You know, in New England, we grow up with the belief
02:15that kind of democracy is one person, one vote,
02:21not billionaires, controlling the political process.
02:42But these guys not only control the economy,
02:47not only control our political system,
02:50they own the media.
02:52Not an accident that Elon Musk owns Twitter.
02:56Not an accident that Mark Zuckerberg owns Meta,
03:00which controls Facebook and Instagram.
03:06Not an accident that Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post and Twitch.
03:11Not an accident that Mr. Ellison recently bought Paramount,
03:16which will give him ownership of CBS.
03:19Not an accident that Rupert Murdoch owns Fox,
03:26the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post,
03:28and right-wing publications all across this country.
03:33So what I am saying to you, brothers and sisters,
03:36you are living, we are living,
03:38in a society where the people on top have unbelievable power over the economy,
03:46over the political system,
03:47over the media,
03:50and over us.
03:52And it is time that we said,
03:56very loudly and clearly,
03:58that millions of people fought and died
04:02to create a government that works for all,
04:05not just the 1%.
04:08And let me tell you something.
04:30Thank you very much.
