Police say alleged police shooter may be receiving assistance, calls for people to come forward

Police searching for alleged gunman Dezi Freeman in Victoria’s northeast say they're receiving large numbers of tips from the community, following a call-out for information. It’s been more than a week since the suspect fled into bushland around his Porepunkah property after he allegedly killed two police officers.

00:00I'm in ovens outside of the police staging area north east Victoria where it is day 8 where the

00:10manhunt continues for the alleged shooter Desi Freeman. Now yesterday afternoon Brett Kahn who

00:18is the superintendent held a press conference in Benalla about an hour away. He talked about what

00:24has been happening on the ground. This is one of the largest police operations in Victoria with

00:29over 450 officers participating in this operation. Now police believe that he may be assisted in some

00:39capacity and he has urged that locals or anyone with information to make contact with police and

00:46that anyone found assisting or harbouring the alleged shooter Desi Freeman needs to make contact with

00:53police because they too could be facing very serious charges. This is a little of what he had

00:59to say yesterday. People know the whereabouts of the person who's killed two cops.

01:09People have chosen for whatever reason not to come forward and I'm taking this time to appeal to you

01:15to come forward. And so today as the police continue their search we are reminded of the work that the

01:22police do. Yesterday afternoon I was speaking to an officer. She was at one of the areas that was

01:30cordoned off. I said to her I'm so sorry for your loss. She said that she knew Vadim, that she worked

01:37with Vadim. They're about the same age and I said why are you here? And she said I would rather be out here

01:44helping than being at home doing nothing. And that has really stayed with me. And so as this manhunt

01:52continues for the alleged shooter Desi Freeman we are reminded again by the police to make contact. If we

01:59have any information it might be a small little detail to be in contact and police are reminding anyone,

02:06even Desi, that if they are watching this to make contact with police today any information is helpful.
