00:00Thousands of Americans use the Labor Day holiday to protest what they say is growing in equality across the U.S.
00:08We are fighting for fair pay. We are fighting for health equity. We are fighting for economic justice.
00:16Labor unions, which organized the protests, have dwindling influence.
00:20In 2024, just 10% of the U.S. workforce had union membership,
00:25and economic pain is felt disproportionately along racial lines.
00:29Since this president has been elected, we understand that 300,000 African-American women have lost their jobs, which is sad.
00:40In the U.S., there's a huge gap between the very rich and everyone else, and it's only getting wider.
00:47The nation's 800 billionaires, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates, have a combined net worth of more than $6 trillion.
00:55That figure has more than doubled since President Trump's tax cuts first passed in 2017.
01:02The motion is adopted.
01:03With Trump's so-called One Big Beautiful Bill now voted into law, those tax cuts are permanent.
01:09And while there are cuts across the board, the ultra-rich are poised to get even richer.
01:14But the poorest Americans are being hit hard because of cuts to food assistance and health care.
01:19It's estimated that some 13.7 million Americans will lose their health insurance as a result of Trump's tax law.
01:27Independent Senator Bernie Sanders, who has spent his political career railing against income inequality,
01:33has drawn thousands to his Fight the Oligarchy rallies.
01:37No, you're not going to destroy Social Security.
01:42You're not going to destroy Medicaid.
01:44Sanders and others say to see the inequities look no further than the president himself.
01:49The New Yorker recently estimated that Trump has used the presidency to make himself even richer,
01:54to the tune of $3.4 billion.
01:57His tax returns uncovered by The New York Times showed he paid no income taxes for 10 to 15 years
02:03and paid no taxes during two of the four years of his first term.
