00:00Thousands gathered in Washington, D.C. on Monday to protest significant changes in federal
00:09agencies implemented since President Donald Trump assumed office in January.
00:14Protesters opposed the mass layoffs and executive orders, arguing they undermine democracy and
00:20public services.
00:21Trump appointed Tesla CEO Elon Musk to cut wasteful spending, leading to thousands of
00:27job cuts.
00:28We're here because we're trying to protest the overreach that President Trump and Elon
00:34Musk are using to ruin our government and ruin our image around the world, honestly,
00:42because we fought for a strong America that helps people, that does the right thing, and
00:46we want to make sure that we maintain that legacy for future generations.
00:50The ends do not justify the means.
00:53There's a right way and a wrong way to accomplish change.
00:56And President Trump has broken every rule of appropriate democratic change in our society.
01:03And it scares me quite a bit.
01:07He has usurped power that he doesn't have.
01:09He's taken actions without regard to the consequences.
01:13And a lot of people are being hurt.
01:15And it's going to cascade.
01:17And I believe it's an existential threat to the United States.
01:21He should not have this much power.
01:23The fact that he's been given a blank check is terrifying.
01:28And I really wish that Congress would actually do their job, as people are chanting, and
01:36do something about the fact that this is an unelected citizen who has all this power of
01:42the government.
01:43He doesn't know what he's doing.
01:44He has no experience working in government.
01:47He shouldn't be doing any of this.
01:48And the fact that Trump is allowing this, or encouraging this, is terrifying.
01:53Protesters argued that Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency have too much power
01:58and urge Congress to push back against decisions made by Musk and Trump.
02:03The protests, part of the 50-51 movement, 50 protests, 50 states, one movement, also
02:10addressed recent mass firings within federal agencies.
