00:00going to be the matchup in week four in Dallas there at Cowboys Stadium at AT&T Stadium. It's
00:06Cowboys Packers week four. You know, Micah Parsons is going to be revved up for all of this. So let's
00:12bring into the conversation right now two guys that are familiar with the NFL have played at the
00:16highest of levels, Brett Hundley and Alex Okafor. Thank you so much for joining us here guys on
00:21Live Now from Fox and the news coming down on Thursday that Micah Parsons being traded from
00:27Dallas to Green Bay to first and Kenny Clark going the other way. Brett, you spent time in
00:34Green Bay. You know what Packers fans are all about. Take me through what they are thinking right now.
00:39Yeah, this is huge for them. To be able to get, I think the biggest thing is to be able to get this
00:45type of player in his prime. I mean, a dude's 26, 27 years old coming off a phenomenal, you know,
00:52year, past couple of years. This is a big pickup for them. Now they did give up some trade
00:57picks, which Green Bay isn't necessarily known for. But I mean, everybody's throwing out the
01:01Reggie White at this point. I mean, if he's coming in here getting paid like that, we expect some high,
01:05high, high hopes. And I'm sure he's going to deliver with his new contract. I mean, I hope he does.
01:09Yeah, obviously, you mentioned the Reggie White comparison, and now he's the highest non-quarterback
01:15paid in the NFL with $47 million a year. Alex, I want to ask you, from the defensive line
01:21perspective, from the rushing the passer, how disruptive can he be? Can he be a plug-and-play
01:26guy? Because he didn't play throughout training camp. He didn't play in the preseason. Can he get
01:31going right away in Green Bay? Yeah, absolutely. When you look at the film and you watch the
01:37Cowboys defense, you see them line Michael Parsons up at every single position on the D-line, whether
01:42that's defensive end, whether that's three techniques. Sometimes you see him even over
01:45the center. So what does that tell you? That tells you that, yes, he is a plug-and-play guy.
01:50You don't need to just delegate him to the left side or the right side. You can put him in any
01:54spot across that defensive line, and you will see production. And that's what you've seen these
01:59past couple of years with him in Dallas. Yeah, and obviously, we talk about the Reggie White
02:03comparison as well. Only two players in NFL history their first four years had 12 or more sacks,
02:08that being Reggie, the minister of defense, White, and also Micah Parsons. So we'll see what he
02:13continues. I want to get your guys' perspective, because there's a lot of conversation. And when I
02:17jumped into the sports industry, you didn't realize how important the owners are when you're talking
02:22about a professional franchise. Brett, you played in Green Bay. They have the most unique scenario
02:27in terms of ownership. Alex, we'll get to you in a second, because obviously, Kansas City has a great
02:31ownership group as well. Brett, why should people care about the ownership, and how important is it
02:36in your eyes? I think everything. I mean, and we're not talking just even NFL. We're talking business.
02:43Everything, it's always top-down. So everything that the decisions that are made from the ownership,
02:48and we see with Jerry, you know, being the GM of the team, the decisions that he's making affects
02:52the whole team and the future of the franchise. So from the ownership, and Green Bay is unique
02:56because it's, you know, a collective. And, you know, it's a football town. But, you know, I think
03:04everything in life in general in this business is top-down. So these decisions that these guys are
03:08making and the effect it has on the franchise, I mean, for Dallas, look, the Dallas fans are hurting
03:14at this point. They lost Micah, you know, Dallas, the Mavericks sent off Donnick. I mean, Dallas got
03:20to be hurting right now. Yeah, that is so very true, and it's interesting. We put up the Lambeau
03:24field shot, and obviously, when we were there, Brett, that was the tallest building in Green Bay.
03:29So the stature of the owners there is certainly unique. Alex, can you speak to that as well? I know
03:34the Chiefs, they have a great ownership as well with the Hunt family. Can you talk about that? How was the
03:39relationship like for you with the ownership, and how does that dictate success? Yeah, so when you
03:45look at ownership, the Clark family, from a Kansas City Chiefs perspective, you see that they put an
03:50emphasis on drafting well and keeping their own guys in-house. We've seen it over the past couple
03:56years. Let's look at the foundation of this team. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelsey, Chris Jones,
04:00all homegrown talent. And then you even look at the next generation between Creed Humphreys and Trey
04:05Smith, Trent McDuffie. They're making an effort to go out, draft well, and keep their guys in the
04:12building, and still making them highest paid at the position. To me, that's elite ownership,
04:16and you can see it within the culture of the team as well. Yeah, no, that is a very good point. I just
04:21want to get your perspective, because I don't think people really appreciate or understand how much that
04:25can sway the kind of will of a franchise. Alex, I do want to ask you, as we're talking about this,
04:31as there was a trade being moved, but it was also a new deal there for Micah. The four years,
04:35$188 million, 47 a year. And you can see there passing T.J. Watt, Jamar Chase, Miles Garrett,
04:43two of those guys got paid just this offseason. That's not a small margin now between these two
04:49guys. Is Micah Parsons worth $47 million a year? Yeah, I mean, when you cut on the tape,
04:58I mean, he just passes the eyeball test. He is so slippery in his rushes that he almost seems
05:03impossible to block. Not to mention, his body type is different from those other guys on the list.
05:08He's a linebacker at heart, so he's a lot faster than a lot of those guys underneath him in terms
05:13of salary. He is an athletic freak, and it shows on the tape and on the field. Yeah, and obviously,
05:20you are very familiar with kind of being that hybrid role there, being able to rush the passer,
05:24but also playing the linebacker role. He did have some qualms with the Cowboys about that.
05:29Before we move on to the subject, can I ask, what's going on in terms of the Cowboys locker room? How
05:34are they viewing it? Dak just got paid last year to become the highest paid quarterback. CD just got
05:40paid as well. What's going through the mind of Dak and CD, Brett? What do you think?
05:46I mean, look, they're happy. They're just paid. So I would say to start, you got to be happy. I mean,
05:51they made some big money. But also, too, like, this is sort of the same thing that Alex just
05:56touched on. Like, these are guys that sort of have been playing together, and now you're starting
06:00to see a disconnect. And I always think back to, like, the Legion of Boom Seattle. I mean,
06:04when everybody started leaving, like, the culture of the franchise just started dissipating.
06:08And so when you start losing your key players, like Mike now is leaving, and, you know, Dak and
06:14CD will be there for a couple years. But to really keep that core of guys, that leads your locker
06:19room. So, you know, hopefully they keep it together. I know, you know, with the new coach
06:23and stuff like that. But we'll see. You know, nobody knows until the first game hits.
06:28Do you think there's frustration, Alex?
06:30I'm kind of a threat. Like, those top guys, they got their money. So it's frustrating because
06:35those guys are eating a certain percentage of the salary cap. But I would think the guys
06:40underneath it, those are the guys that are thinking, man, what happens once I perform on the
06:45field in this time for me to get paid? Because it seems like every player that goes into negotiation
06:50with the Cowboys, it's always an extended, dragged-out process. They never get this process
06:56done early. So if I'm a younger guy trying to perform on the field and I actually do hit
07:01my numbers, in the back of my mind, I'm like, man, am I really going to get paid? How long
07:05is this process going to take?
07:07Yeah, that's a good mindset. And it kind of also goes back to what happened with the Bengals.
07:10Trey Hendrickson, he wanted to get paid. He did his work the last couple of years. Now
07:15he's just kind of on that one-year deal and potentially it's unlikely that he stays with
07:19the Bengals. All right, let's move on from this as we're talking about some of the top
07:23teams, top games. And we were just talking with Rob Motte. He thinks it's going to be
07:26the third time in four years that the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs meet in the Super
07:30Bowl. Alex, you are very familiar playing for the Chiefs. Do the Chiefs, can the Chiefs get
07:35back? Is there anything short of a Super Bowl mean success for them this year?
07:39It's crazy to say. I mean, you feel like the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl every single
07:44year. This upcoming season, there's no reason not to expect them to be in the Super Bowl
07:49again. When you look at their offense, you talk about replenishing and reloading. They're
07:55so much more explosive this season than they were last season. Last season, an injured Isaiah
07:59Pacheco, an injured Rasheed Rice, an injured Hollywood Brown. This year, all three of those guys
08:04are healthy. Not to mention, they drafted well in a reloading. Plus, they got a nice dynamic
08:10running back, Brashard Smith, in the backfield to compliment Pacheco. So it's crazy to say
08:14that they are favorites to go to the Super Bowl, but their offense looks so much more explosive
08:19this year than they did last year. And if they could get it done last year, there's no reason
08:24to think it can't go again this year.
08:26I don't even know why I asked that question, Alex. I knew what your answer was going to be.
08:29I'm a little biased.
08:30You're a little biased. I can see the helmet behind you. Let me ask you, though, because we
08:34talked about it a lot last year, how the Chiefs just always managed to win games, and they were
08:3911-0 in one score game. The NFL always finds a way to even itself out. Is that concerning at all
08:46in your eyes, the fact that they won so many close games last year that it might not go their way
08:50that way this year?
08:53That's not a concern for me, just because the core is still there, and they know how to win.
08:57They've developed the DNA to win those close games. It wasn't by luck. It wasn't by chance.
09:02They've developed, and they've got the experience to win those one-score games,
09:06and there's no reason to think that they're just going to fall off a cliff and just forget how to
09:11win in the fourth quarter.
09:12Yeah, and now we've talked about those close games. They were still 15-2. They made it.
09:16They were the onesie. They made it all the way to the Super Bowl to see what can go on again.
09:20Brett, are you in the same camp? Patrick Mahomes potentially had his worst statistical season
09:25of his career, albeit plenty of wins to go along with it. Is Patrick Mahomes still the guy? Is he
09:31still the quarterback we're all looking to lead the charge?
09:35I would never. I'm playing Kansas City. I ain't got no bias. I'm not betting against Patrick Mahomes
09:41at this point. The dude has shown time and time again, year and year again. It doesn't matter
09:46what position you put him in. We've talked about even last year being his worst statistical year,
09:50but just like Alex pointed out, there were two guys injured, and he still got them to the Super
09:55Bowl. I wouldn't bet on him at this point. I expect them to be back in the Super Bowl. I expect
10:00them to probably win the Super Bowl this year. Whatever it is, I feel like all the situations
10:04that Patrick Mahomes has been in, I mean, he's went into the toughest teams on the road in the
10:09playoffs and still came out with victories. So at this point, I'm expecting them to do the same
10:13thing they've been doing for the past four or five years.
10:15Yeah, it's death taxes and Patrick Mahomes making it to the AFC championship game. This would be the
10:20eighth if they do make it back there as well. Let's talk about the rest of the AFC because the
10:25NFC is a little bit more straightforward. The AFC, you got guys like Josh Allen, the reigning MVP of
10:31the league, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Baltimore, right in that conversation. Do you think anyone, Brett,
10:37can knock them off? Do you think this is the year that someone says we're going to the Super Bowl
10:42instead of the Chiefs? I think it's so hard just because, you know, the Chiefs, I mean,
10:47let's take it. Buffalo, you got Josh Allen, you know, and they're always the competition right
10:52there. You're thinking, now I'm thinking the Peyton Manning and the Tom Brady clashes before the
10:57Super Bowl always. And that's what I think of it. Lamar has a great, great, you know, regular season,
11:02but in the playoffs just can't get over the hurdle. I'm hoping to see his jump. And then, you know,
11:06we can't forget about Cincinnati and Joe Burrow. If their defense comes along, I think they could be a
11:11really strong contender. Big if, but if they can, I think they'd be a real strong contender. But I
11:16think there's a lot of teams in the AFC, especially that core of teams. You don't know who's going to
11:20come on top, but, you know, history hasn't shown. Patrick Mahomes, I think, will be there.
11:25And Alex, I remember talking to you last year, I believe, before the MVP vote. You thought Lamar
11:29Jackson should have got that win in terms of that hardware. NFL on Fox posting this as well. We talked
11:35about Josh, Lamar, Joe, Jared Goff trying to get a hold of the hump. Three of those guys in the AFC.
11:40Does Lamar start feeling the pressure that they need to get to the Super Bowl, at least play in
11:46one to get the credibility, to get some of the praise that he rightly deserves?
11:51I think so. And he's feeling it as well. He's feeling the frustration. You can see it at the
11:55end of the playoff game last year. Now, the reason why the pressure is there is because last year he
12:00reached that pinnacle. He had one of the all-time great individual seasons by a quarterback and still
12:06couldn't make it to the playoffs. Now, that's not just an indictment on him. It's an indictment on the
12:10rest of the team as well. But the feeling in Baltimore has to be it's time. We've been knocking
12:15on the door for so long, we have to get over the hump and finally get some of this Super Bowl
12:19experience. Whether they win it or not is another conversation, but they at least need to get there.
12:25Yeah, no, that is a very good point. Obviously, they have to go through Kansas City. Let's talk
12:30about another team in the AFC that might be sneaking up on some people. And I know you are very familiar
12:34with this guy being Aaron Rodgers, Brett, because obviously at 41 years young, he is going to be
12:40starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. It's kind of a weird look to see in that uniform
12:45right now. And obviously, J.J. McCarthy, second-year guy out of Michigan, the 22-year-old. But in your
12:51eyes, Brett, obviously Aaron said there are only a handful of teams. There are about 10 teams that have
12:56Super Bowl aspirations that are truly capable of winning the Super Bowl. Is Aaron Rodgers a guy that can lead
13:03that team to a Super Bowl? Is Aaron Rodgers still the guy that we all think he is?
13:08I think he is. I can never speak bad about Aaron. Aaron, he could be 50 years old, and I'm still
13:13saying he's the guy. And the reason I said it, just because this dude has experience and we've
13:19seen Tom Brady come in for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and lead them to a Super Bowl. If you get matched
13:24with the right team, and I think with Arthur Smith calling the plays real heavy on the run and get some
13:29play action in there, they got DK, the Beast, Metcalf out in the receiver now. So I think
13:35they're going to have a lot of weapons, opportunities. I think Aaron's going to be a huge lift for him
13:40on offense, man, dude. They need it. And then now they're just...
