Sussex World reporter Derren Howard after Brighton's 2-1 win against Manchester City at the Amex Stadium.
Transcript
00:00Well that was some finish from Brighton. An excellent result in their game
00:06against Manchester City. Finished 2-1 to the Seagulls. Manchester City went 1-0 up
00:12through Erling Haaland but Brighton they always looked a threat. City were very
00:17good in the first half but Brighton were always a threat on the counter. They had
00:21a couple of chances through Karamatoma and Yankouba Minte but they got back on
00:25level terms. It was a penalty. Yasin Ayari pumped a long free kick into the box.
00:31Lewis Dunk clattered one into the arm of Manchester City defender Nunez and James
00:38Milner, former Manchester City player, won the Premier League title twice
00:42with Manchester City. He took the penalty and never looked like missing to be
00:49honest. Knocked it into the bottom corner. Excellent finish from James Milner. At
00:5539 he becomes the second highest ever, second oldest ever Premier League scorer
01:01behind Teddy Sheridan. So another little landmark for James Milner who just just
01:08seems to get better and better. He came on for the last 30-odd minutes. He was one of
01:15four substitutions that Herzella put on to bring some extra energy and skill into the
01:21team and his substitutions really, really did the trick. He shifted the momentum of the
01:27match and Brighton really, they were relentless to be honest. I asked Herzella in the press conference
01:34afterwards whether that was the best performance that he's seen since he's been at the clubs,
01:38particularly in the second half. And he said in terms of intensity, in terms of pressing and in terms of will to win,
01:44they played better. But sheer desire and just a will to get those three points in the end, that was as good as it came.
02:00And it was important for Brighton. It was their first win of the season. They drew 1-1 to Fulham, lost 2-0 at Everton and they were losing 1-0 here. So it would have been a, you know, a poor return to head to the international break.
02:01With just one Premier League point. But that win today really sets Brighton up. It was an excellent morale boost and victory. They can head off to the international break and come back fully refreshed, charged and ready to go again.
02:17It's a terrible time to have an international break. We've had to play three Premier League matches. Transfer window is still open as well, that closes on Monday. So you just get going, you just get started and then there's the international break.
02:29And it's a shame because Brighton would have probably carried on the momentum from today.
02:35So you just get going, you just get started and then there's the international break. So it's a shame because Brighton would have probably carried on the momentum from today.
02:46But all in all though, pretty good, pretty good first three games for Brighton. The Fulham result was disappointing. Obviously Everton at their new stadium was always going to be tough.
02:58But this Manchester City performance has really, really galvanised the team and they'll come back in good spirits hopefully.
03:07But have a look on the Sussex World website. We've got player ratings up there and we'll be getting, as soon as I get back, we'll be getting all of the match reaction from the,
03:15post-match press conferences, including some very glum quotes from Pep Guardiola who wasn't happy to be in the press conference room at all.
03:25It's the second time he's lost in two meetings. They lost 2-1 last season at Brighton and they lost 2-1 again today.
03:34So not a great place for City to come at the moment, but Brighton fans won't care about that.
03:38But they thoroughly enjoyed their day at the Amex.
