A wet start to autumn this morning across the UK, especially across Scotland where we have a yellow rain warning in force for south-western Scotland through much of the morning. This band of rain will gradually clear away during the day. It is a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers across the country, and a fairly breezy day too. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 01/09/2025. 00:00Good morning, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's a wet start to autumn across parts of the UK this morning, especially so for Scotland.
00:09We do have this band of heavy rain around, some poor travelling conditions in places,
00:13lots of surface spray on the roads.
00:14We do have a yellow rain warning in force across parts of south-western Scotland throughout most of the morning.
00:20That rain band does clear away as we go through the course of the day, however,
00:23and for most of the UK, really, it's going to be a day of sunny spells and scattered showers.
00:28Some of these showers will be quite heavy and thundery and quite blustery too.
00:32We've got this brisk wind around.
00:33The winds will be slightly lighter than they were on Sunday, but overall still a fairly breezy picture out there.
00:39But in the brighter moments, it won't feel too bad for the beginning of September.
00:43We will see highs potentially up to about 20 or 21 degrees across more southern and eastern parts of the UK.
00:51Into this evening, the showers across the east will generally begin to fade away,
00:55allowing some clearer skies to develop here.
00:57But further west, the showers will continue to pile in, and then later on in the night,
01:01a more persistent band of rain arrives into the far south-west, and some of this rain could be on the heavy side.
01:07So overall, with more in the way of clear skies developing tonight, it will be slightly cooler than the night just gone.
01:12But I still think most towns and cities will stay in double figures.
01:16So for most of us, actually, Tuesday starts off on a fairly cheery note with some sunshine around,
01:21but not so down towards the south-west.
01:23We've got this band of rain, and that will spread its way eastwards across many parts of England and Wales.
01:28Again, some of the rain will be quite heavy and persistent, and some places are actually seeing a fairly wet picture during the course of the day.
01:34For Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of Northern England, actually here,
01:38we just continue the mix of sunshine and showers, what we see today.
01:42And again, some of these showers will be on the heavy side.
01:44Maybe some brightness returning later on in the day across the very far south-west.
01:48Again, we still see the risk of some heavy downpours at times.
01:53So overall, temperatures fairly similar to today.
01:56Highs ranging between around 16 to 20 degrees across the UK.
