A low pressure area sits to the northwest of Scotland bringing persistent showers in this region as well as across the west of England, Wales and Ireland, through the morning. This will be accompanied by strong winds and coastal gales in Scotland. Unsettled weather in the afternoon will bring scattered rain showers, some turning heavy and thundery, across the UK. Temperatures will be in the mid to high teens. - This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the morning of 11/09/2025. Bringing you todayβs forecast is Clare Nasir
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning which is blustery, windy for some, a lot of rain around and also some heavy showers.
00:10Low pressure really dominates the situation across the UK. Notice a real squeeze on the isobar because this area is so deep towards the north of the UK and showers will rattle across the country, merging to form longer spells of rain through Thursday and Friday, particularly towards the north and west.
00:25And then more rain on Saturday, either side a blustery breeze and also those showers which will be heavy with the risk of thunder.
00:34So most places seeing some wet weather through the next few days and a few of you will see some impactful conditions, certainly some heavy pulses likely coming in across the northwest of Scotland as we head through the next few hours.
00:45Showers will be fewer across more eastern areas of England as well as Scotland, but running in across coastal districts towards the west as well as the south.
00:53And notice a cluster of showers just moving across northern Ireland as well.
00:57So there will be some showers around, but really we look towards the northwest where we'll see the strongest winds, coastal gales and those showers merging to form a longer spell of rain.
01:05That centre of the low is just towards the northwest there. So these winds here are strong, if not gale force.
01:11Now through today, the cloud will build and we'll see a scattering of heavy showers.
01:16They'll move across the country quite quickly with that keen breeze.
01:20But these showers could be heavy, so problems on the roads, poor visibility if you catch a torrential downpour, the risk of thunder, even some hail.
01:27So through the afternoon, you can see where they are.
01:30They're moving from the west towards the east with that more persistent rain towards the far northwest of Scotland.
01:35Temperatures then, well, it'll feel fresh in the wind, 16 or 17 towards the north and probably 18 to 20 further south and southeast even.
01:43So feeling cooler than that with the strength of the wind.
01:46So that's the picture through this afternoon.
01:49Through this evening, those showers continue.
01:51So for rush hour, not particularly pleasant if you are driving.
01:54And through the night, you can see yet again that rain never too far away from the northwest of Scotland.
02:00And it will nudge in across more northwestern areas of the mainland as we head through into Friday morning, again with coastal gales.
02:07Showers continue across northern, western and southern facing coasts inland, some clearer skies.
02:13But through Friday, the clouds will build and we'll see a scattering of heavy showers.
02:17And again, they'll track across the country with a little sunshine in between.
02:21Temperatures then still struggling, still feeling cool because of the wind coming in probably the mid to high teens at the very best.
02:29So that's the picture on Friday.
02:31Into the weekend, we are looking at more rain or showers and again, stronger winds.
02:37So through Friday evening and overnight, those showers continue, waning a little bit inland.
02:42But then it's rain or showers on Saturday.
02:44Temperatures around the mid teens and more unsettled weather coming our way on Sunday.
