02:39So he called satan and asked if he would keep them for a little while satan reluctantly agreed
02:45A few hours satan called back said you've got to come get these guys peter the baptist man is saving everyone
02:51The catholic man is forgiving everyone and the charismatic has already raised enough money for air conditioning
02:57Say it like you mean it. This is my bible. I am what it says. I am
03:04I have what it says. I have I can do what it says. I can do today

03:53I want to talk to you today about the power of no
03:57To reach our potential we have to say yes
04:01Yes to our dreams yes to god's promises
04:04Yes to the right people
04:06Yes is incredibly important
04:08But yes alone is not enough
04:11What you say no to has as much impact as what you say yes to
04:16Yes is typically easier
04:19It's the path of least resistance
04:21But if you don't learn to say no, you will never get to your greater yeses
04:26There's power in no no to compromising
04:30No to people pleasing no to distractions
04:34No takes discipline to not let our emotions rule us. It's not something that comes naturally
04:41Our flesh wants to have its own way and most of us are good at saying yes
04:46Do you want to stay up late and watch tv? Yes, that's fun
04:50Do you want to go to the mall and not do your homework? Yes, let's go
04:54Do you want that third bowl of blue bell chocolate chip ice cream? Yes, you don't even need to ask
05:00There's a battle taking place between our flesh and our spirit
05:05The flesh wants to take the easy way out wants instant gratification
05:10Proverbs says a person without self-control is like a city with broken down walls
05:17In those days when the walls were down around the city the enemy could easily come in and do whatever they wanted
05:24If you say yes all the time
05:27There's no self-control self-discipline then your walls are down
05:31There's no defense no protection
05:34And sometimes we're our worst enemy
05:37We're saying yes to offense. They did me wrong
05:41Yes to compromise friends pulling us down
05:44Yes to mediocrity showing up late to work
05:48You can have all the talent in the world and all the opportunity
05:52But if you don't have self-control the discipline to say no to things you know, you shouldn't do
05:59Then you won't reach your destiny
06:01You may want to tell somebody off
06:04The clerk is rude and the neighbor offends you your flesh
06:08That's our lower nature
06:10We'll say let them have it be rude back to them
06:14The easy thing is to agree. Yes, that sounds good. Lord. Thank you for that idea
06:20But every idea is not from god
06:23You have to discern between the still small voice of the spirit
06:27And the loud angry voice of the flesh
06:30Be still
06:31Get quiet and listen to what god is saying
06:34Don't let the flesh your carnal desires dictate your life
06:39You're in control of your yeses and your nos
06:43It's easy to say yes, i'm gonna get upset. Yes, i'm gonna pay them back
06:47Try a different approach learn the power of no
06:51Know to arguing and having to have your way
06:54Know to watching things that are poisoning your spirit
06:58Know to peer pressure letting people talk you into compromising
07:03Every no is leading to a better. Yes
07:06The nos are not an option. They are necessary for you to reach your destiny
07:11Moses was born into a hebrew family
07:15But he was raised by the pharaoh's daughter and egyptian princes
07:19He grew up in the palace with prestige and influence
07:23But as a young man, he saw how the egyptians were oppressing the hebrews
07:28Had them in slavery and mistreating them
07:31Something rose up on the inside. He knew that wasn't right
07:35The scripture says he refused to be called the son of pharaoh's daughter
07:41But instead he chose to stand with the people of god
07:45Here he had it made wealth influence an easy life
07:49Thoughts were telling him don't rock the boat moses
07:53But he dared to say no
07:55I'm, not taking the easy way out
07:57I'm, not gonna sit back and watch my family suffer and compromise with these people
08:02He refused to be called by their name. Look at that boldness
08:06Wasn't easy
08:08But if you're going to reach the fullness of your destiny
08:11There will be these times you have to put your foot down
08:15And refuse things that are less than god's best
08:19Refuse the addictions that have hindered your family
08:22Refuse to be cynical like those around you
08:26Refuse the offense the unforgiveness that's trying to poison your life
08:31Had moses not said no as a young man
08:34He would have never seen a bigger. Yes
08:37Had he stayed in the palace where it was comfortable
08:41Thought things are good here
08:43Good can be the enemy of the best
08:46Without that. No, moses would have never brought the israelites out of slavery
08:51Never seen the red sea part the enemies drown in the water
08:55That no may be difficult
08:58But it's leading to a yes much greater than you can imagine
09:02The scripture says no discipline at the time is pleasant
09:07But later on you will see a reward
09:11We focus too much on right now
09:14It's hard to say no to this friend. Joel this is dragging me down. I'm comfortable
09:19You're right where moses was
09:21Are you going to obey the flesh or the spirit?
09:25God asked for the no's not to make your life harder
09:29It's because he has bigger yeses
09:32Greater things in your future
09:34But the no is required to get to the yes
09:38It's hard to get up early and exercise
09:41It's hard to not eat things that are making me unhealthy
09:44It's hard to control my mouth. Joel. It's hard to not watch things that are poisoning me
09:49Here's the key
09:50The pain of discipline is less than the pain of regret
09:55The pain of discipline weighs ounces the pain of regret weighs tons
10:01It's going to take courage and I know doing what you don't feel like
10:05But that pain is much less than looking back and realizing
10:10I was supposed to deliver the israelites so to speak
10:13God had these big yeses
10:16I could have been at new levels more blessed more happy
10:19But I didn't refuse what was limiting me. I didn't learn the power of no
10:24We focus on the pain right now. We need to think more about later on
10:29Moses was uncomfortable leaving the palace
10:34But later on when he was watching the israelites march out of egypt
10:38Two million people free after 10 generations of slavery
10:43Not one part of him said I wish I hadn't said no back then
10:47I wish I'd taken the easy way out
10:50You will never see your greater yeses
10:54Without saying no to certain things
10:56They may be good
10:57Moses living in the palace nothing wrong with that
11:00But he sensed there was more in him
11:03That he was destined to deliver god's people
11:06If you'll be uncomfortable now later on you'll look back and think it was well worth it
11:12When you see where god takes you you'll be glad you said no
11:16Years ago
11:18I was invited to meet with some executives at siriusxm
11:23They asked me to do a one-hour program once a week that they could run on one of their channels
11:29I was very honored. It was a great opportunity
11:32But I didn't feel right about it
11:34I'd never done anything on radio
11:36Seemed like god opened this door
11:39But for some reason I didn't have peace and I told them how grateful I was but I would have to pass
11:45Two years later they asked for another meeting
11:48The executive said you didn't want to do the one-hour program once a week
11:53What if we gave you your own channel 24 hours a day seven days a week I said now that sounds good
12:00Had I not said no to the good thing i've never seen the bigger yes
12:07Trust what you feel in your spirit
12:10What god is going to do in your life is bigger than what you have planned
12:15He'll speak to you in the still small voice
12:18And uneasiness this isn't right may not make sense, but god knows what he's doing. He can see the big picture
12:25And sometimes you have to say no to what you're comfortable with. It's not bad
12:31You're not doing anything wrong, but god's calling you higher
12:36He's about to bring you into a greater. Yes, but he's asking you to come up higher
12:41To say no to watching so much on your tv your phone
12:46To say no to comparing and competing with your friends
12:50Always trying to keep up
12:52Outperform get off that treadmill. That's not going anywhere
12:57Or to say no to being against yourself feeling inferior
13:01Not good enough not attractive
13:04You have to do like moses put your foot down and refuse to live that way
13:10Don't let the enemy steal your destiny by seeing yourself the wrong way
13:16Are there things that you need to say no to today?
13:20You feel that conviction?
13:22God's speaking to you
13:24You keep putting it off. I'll do it later. I don't want to be uncomfortable. That's going to be hard
13:30The longer you wait the harder it's going to be
13:34There's a window of grace to do what you know you're supposed to do
13:39God is going to breathe on your life and give you the ability to do hard things
13:45You are in one of those windows now
13:48You wouldn't be hearing this if you weren't well able
13:52Don't miss your moment
13:54What you say no to is going to open the door to a yes that you've never imagined
14:00This is what joseph did
14:03His brothers were jealous and sold him into slavery in egypt
14:07He's working for a man named potiphar running his household
14:11Well potiphar's wife liked joseph
14:14She tried to seduce him
14:16When potiphar wasn't home she'd come around make advances
14:19Let him know that she was interested
14:21But joseph was a man of great character and integrity
14:26When god has something big in your future, you'll be tested along the way
14:31Can you handle more influence more favor more resources?
14:37This is where many people get stuck
14:39They're not good at saying no
14:41They want the pleasure of the moment
14:44They give in to their fleshly desires
14:47Not realizing that's keeping them from the much greater pleasure that god has in store
14:53Joseph was alone in the house potiphar was gone just him and this wife that's after him
15:00Nobody would have known
15:02Joseph was already disappointed
15:04Life had thrown him a bad break held against his will
15:08In a foreign land. What does he have to lose?
15:12But joseph understood we have to win battles in private before god will bless us in public
15:18What you do when no one is watching will determine how much god can entrust you with
15:26Joseph knew that people may not be watching but god is watching
15:30He controls the universe promotion doesn't come from people. It comes from the lord
15:36Paul said to timothy to run from temptation
15:40Don't hang around and think that you can withstand it
15:44I'm strong joel. I'm not gonna give in the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak
15:50If you're married and someone's interested in you stay away from them
15:55You may work with them but do what you can to keep your distance if they take the elevator you take the stairs
16:03If they go out the front door, you go out the back
16:05If they come in at eight you come in at 745
16:09Don't make it harder than it has to be
16:12The scripture says be careful when you think you stand lest you fall
16:18That means don't play with fire or you're gonna get burned
16:22Stay out of the kitchen or you're gonna eat the donut
16:25Don't go to the barbershop or you're gonna get a haircut. It says to run from temptation
16:31That's aggressive
16:32Could have said walk
16:34Jog move quickly. You have to be on the offensive
16:38Well, joel, I know these friends aren't making good decisions
16:42They give in to temptation, but i'm smarter than that. I'm not gonna do it
16:48First corinthians says bad company corrupts good character
16:52I don't doubt that you're good, but you're good is not gonna rub off on them
16:58Their bad is going to rub off on you
17:00It says in psalms one don't sit inactive in the path of sinners
17:06Don't hang around people that don't have what you want
17:10You're going to be like them
17:11Are you sitting inactive with people that compromise?
17:15Gossip no integrity that's gonna rub off on you
17:19You need to run from that temptation
17:21Quit making it harder
17:23It's difficult enough to deal with things. We have no control over
17:28When potiphar's wife comes so to speak we can't stop that
17:31When things randomly pop up on your computer
17:34Perhaps you were born into a family of dysfunction
17:38None of that is our choice
17:40We have the grace to resist
17:42But when you're putting yourself in environments of compromise and temptation
17:47People that don't honor god
17:49You're making it more difficult
17:51Well, all the guys party on my ball team
17:55They all go out afterwards and mess around
17:58Find some new friends
18:00Find a new team to play on
18:01Your destiny is too important
18:04The calling on your life too significant
18:07What god has assigned you to do can impact your family for generations to come
18:13You have to learn to say no to live holy
18:16With integrity
18:18Doing the right thing when no one is watching
18:21The people you spend time with need to push you up and not drag you down
18:26And I know we need to be lights and help those that are struggling
18:30But you don't need to be around that on an ongoing basis
18:34Don't sit inactive with people that are bringing out the worst in you
18:39Stay in healthy environments
18:41Where you position yourself
18:43Who you choose to spend time with will make you or break you
18:48I heard about this lady that was on a diet
18:51She was doing so good
18:54She used to go to this bakery all the time on the way to work and buy desserts
18:58She was so determined
19:00She started driving another way
19:03So she wouldn't have to pass by
19:04She didn't want to be tempted to pull in
19:07One day the road was closed
19:09She had to go the old way
19:11She prayed god
19:12Help me to resist the temptation to stop
19:15Help me to stand strong
19:17The closer she got the weaker she felt
19:20She could taste those desserts
19:22She said god i'll make a deal
19:24If there's not a parking space right up front
19:27I won't pull in
19:28A few minutes later she came home with a dozen desserts
19:32She told her husband
19:33I couldn't help it on the eighth time around the block
19:36There was a front row spot
19:37Do yourself a favor run from temptation
19:42Stay away from people
19:44And things that you know are going to pull you down
19:48One day potter's wife came up to joseph and grabbed him
19:53Said come with me
19:54She pulled on his coat
19:56But the scripture says joseph tore himself away
20:00Talking about integrity
20:02Discipline
20:03He had plenty of excuses
20:05She was the aggressor
20:06Was her idea
20:08But joseph knew the power of no
20:11He knew if he said yes to compromise
20:14Yes to be an unfaithful
20:16He would never see the greater yeses
20:19He wasn't thinking about right then
20:21He was thinking about later on
20:23How is this decision going to impact my future?
20:28Don't let short-term pleasure
20:30Keep you from a long-term blessing
20:32That's what esau did you remember in the scripture?
20:36He'd been out hunting all day long and
20:38Hadn't caught anything
20:40Came back so hungry so famished
20:43He smelled his brother's pot of stew
20:46Jacob had just cooked this great meal
20:49He said let me have some of your stew
20:51Jacob i'm starving
20:52Jacob said i'll give it to you
20:55If you'll give me your birthright
20:57Well, his birthright was his inheritance
21:00Esau was the firstborn son
21:02The firstborn got a much bigger portion
21:05Esau thought man i'm so hungry
21:08I can't take this anymore
21:10He let his emotions rule
21:12Instead of him ruling his emotions
21:15He gave away his birthright
21:17For a pot of stew
21:18Later on
21:20He regretted it greatly
21:22He got short-term pleasure
21:24But it cost him a lifetime blessing
21:27Don't let that be you
21:28Learn to say no
21:30To rule over your emotions
21:33When pot of his wife saw that joseph wasn't going to give in
21:37She started screaming and saying that joseph tried to harm her falsely accused him
21:43He was put in prison for something. He didn't do
21:46Another setback
21:48Joseph could have been bitter
21:50But he said no
21:52Could have slacked off
21:53But he kept being his best
21:55He's put in charge of the whole prison
21:57The baker one of his cell moats
22:00Cellmates was released from prison
22:02He promised to help joseph
22:04But he forgot about it
22:06Joseph could have gotten sour
22:08That's the last straw
22:09But he said no
22:10If you're going to fulfill your destiny
22:13You have to get good at saying no
22:16It's easy to say yes
22:18Let our feelings rule
22:20Live bitter
22:21Pay people back
22:22But yes won't get you to your destiny
22:25And no takes discipline
22:27Take self-control
22:29But those no's are always leading
22:32To bigger yeses
22:33And I know it's difficult to bite our tongue
22:36Walk away from pot of his wife
22:38To have integrity when no one's watching
22:41But that pain of discipline
22:43Is going to bring a great reward
22:46You are passing the test
22:48You are proving to God
22:50That he can trust you with greater favor
22:52Greater influence
22:54But many people are conditioned
22:56To say yes
22:57And just do what they feel
22:59God is looking for josephs
23:02People that will take the high road
23:03Do the hard thing
23:05Run from temptation
23:07Friend of mine
23:09Has struggled with alcohol
23:11As long as I've known him
23:12He got to the place
23:14Where he accepted it
23:15Thought this is just who I am
23:16About two months ago
23:18He woke up one morning
23:20With this new passion
23:21A resolve that he had never felt
23:24He didn't really know
23:25Where it came from
23:26But he said
23:27I made up my mind
23:28That I was done with alcohol
23:30That it wasn't going to keep
23:32Destroying my life
23:33He had said yes for years
23:36But that day he rose up
23:37And said no
23:38That was a turning point
23:40He has not touched alcohol
23:42Since then
23:43He's like a different person
23:45He never dreamed
23:46He could be free
23:47And feel good
23:49Not be hung over all the time
23:50But live healthy and excited
23:52And I know that wasn't normal
23:55That was the hand of God
23:56Supernatural deliverance
23:57But it all started
23:59When he made the decision
24:01To say no
24:02Maybe there's things
24:04You've been saying yes to
24:05For years
24:06Things you've gotten comfortable
24:08Joel I've always struggled
24:10With this addiction
24:11Always had a problem
24:12Watching things I shouldn't
24:14Or always you know
24:15Being unfaithful
24:16Jealous
24:17Complaining
24:18Let this be the day
24:20You rise up
24:21Like my friend
24:22And say no
24:23No to compromise
24:25No to jealousy
24:26No to temptation
24:27When you do your part
24:29God will step in
24:31And do His part
24:32There will be a supernatural grace
24:34To break the bad habits
24:36To bring down strongholds
24:38That have held you back
24:39And it may be a little painful
24:41But you've got to dig down deep
24:43And be disciplined
24:44Later on
24:46You're going to see
24:46The hand of God
24:47Take you
24:48Where you've never dreamed
24:49He's going to give you
24:51The favor
24:51The courage
24:52To do
24:53What you couldn't do before
24:54There's another man
24:56In the scripture
24:57Named Gehazi
24:58He was Elisha's assistant
25:00One time
25:01Elisha prayed for a man
25:03With leprosy
25:03And he was healed
25:05The man was so excited
25:07And so grateful
25:08He asked Elisha
25:09If he could pay him
25:11Or give him some kind of gift
25:12And Elisha said
25:13No
25:13It was God who healed you
25:15Not me
25:16You don't ever have to pay for prayer
25:18Think that you can buy a miracle
25:21The blessing of God
25:22Is always free
25:23But this man was determined
25:25Come on Elisha
25:26You've done so much for me
25:27Let me at least
25:29Give you some silver
25:30Or gold
25:30Again Elisha refused
25:32Wouldn't take anything
25:33Well the man and his party left
25:35And headed back toward their city
25:37Well Gehazi
25:38The assistant
25:39Overheard the conversation
25:41Something whispered to him
25:43You should go get that treasure
25:45This could be some easy money
25:47Nobody will know
25:48Temptation comes to us all
25:50To be dishonest
25:52To be unfaithful
25:53To be offended
25:54The flesh wants to say yes
25:57That feels good
25:58I like it
25:59But the scripture says
26:00If you live by the dictates of the flesh
26:03You will die
26:04That means if you let
26:06Ordinary impulses rule
26:08You won't reach your destiny
26:09When Gehazi felt that
26:12Desire to be dishonest
26:14That impulse to go secretly
26:17Take those funds
26:18He could have simply said no
26:20I'm not going there
26:21That's not who I am
26:22But he let his guard down
26:24Let his emotions rule
26:25And he snuck away
26:27When Elisha wasn't watching
26:28Caught up with them
26:30They wondered what was going on
26:32Gehazi said
26:33We've had some unexpected guests join us
26:36Elisha was wondering
26:38If you'd still give us
26:39That silver and gold
26:40They said of course
26:41And loaded him down
26:43With all the treasure
26:44He made it back to Elisha
26:46Acting normal
26:47Like everything was fine
26:49Elisha said
26:49Gehazi
26:50Where have you been?
26:52He said nowhere
26:53Just right here
26:54The scripture says
26:56Immediately
26:57His skin was filled with leprosy
26:59What we do in private
27:02Matters to God
27:03Elisha didn't see him
27:05Take the funds
27:06He wasn't there
27:07But God sees everything
27:08There were some big yeses
27:11In Gehazi's future
27:12But he didn't say no
27:14To the little things
27:15God would have given him
27:17Far more treasure
27:18Than he stole
27:19That was a test
27:20Gehazi
27:21Can I trust you
27:23To say no
27:24To being dishonest?
27:26Joseph
27:26No to being unfaithful?
27:29Moses
27:29No to impressing my people?
27:32David
27:32No to getting revenge
27:34On King Saul?
27:35Nehemiah
27:36No to getting distracted
27:37And fighting with the critics?
27:40They all said no
27:41And went on to greater yeses
27:43Not Gehazi
27:44He didn't learn the power of no
27:46How to not let his emotions
27:48Rule him
27:49You never hear anymore
27:51About Gehazi
27:52What's really sad is
27:54Elisha
27:56Was Elijah's assistant
27:58You remember
27:59He got a double portion
28:00Of Elijah's anointing
28:01Well Gehazi
28:02Was Elisha's assistant
28:04He was next in line
28:06He should have had
28:07Four times
28:08The anointing
28:08Of Elijah
28:09But he didn't
28:10Pass the test
28:11Don't let that be you
28:13Learn to say
28:14No to compromise
28:15No to wrong friends
28:17No to distractions
28:19That are wasting your time
28:20Life's short
28:21We're not going to
28:23Be here forever
28:24It's easy to get stuck
28:25In a rut
28:26A negative cycle
28:27Like my friend
28:28With that addiction
28:29It's time to break
28:31Those patterns
28:32Examine your life
28:34How you spend your time
28:36Your friendships
28:37Your environment
28:38God is calling us
28:39God is calling us up higher
28:40He has greater levels
28:42But the greater requires
28:44Greater discipline
28:45Greater consecration
28:47What do you need to say
28:49No to today
28:50May not be some great sin
28:51But something that's limiting
28:53Your growth
28:54Causing you not to blossom
28:56Like you should
28:57Are your walls down
28:59There's no self-control
29:00Let this be the day
29:03That you rise up
29:04And say no
29:05You're not going to let
29:06The natural impulses
29:08Dictate your life
29:09You're going to rule
29:10Your emotions
29:10Like Joseph
29:11You're going to run
29:13From temptation
29:13Not sit inactive
29:15With people that pull you down
29:17Let me tell you
29:17If you learn the power of no
29:19I believe
29:20Declare
29:21You're going to come
29:22Into greater yeses
29:23Something you've never seen
29:25Favor
29:25Promotion
29:26Healing
29:27Breakthroughs
29:28Freedom
29:28The fullness
29:29Of your destiny
