00:13We certainly had better chances in the game. Played OK, I think. Defended very, very well, but there's loads that we can improve upon in that performance.
00:24We've come away with a win, first win at home, and it's been a good day.
00:30We were just discussing it amongst the press, and it felt like for periods of the game, 10-15 minutes towards the end of the half,
00:35it was a period of good play, but not an extended period. Would that be fair?
00:39Yeah, I think it sort of patches here and there. We took a minute to get into the game, which was disappointing here at home.
00:44We needed to start games a lot better. We were OK against Norwich. We were OK today, but it's not what we need.
00:50We need better than OK when we were playing in front of our home fans.
00:54I think that once we go into the game, we were fine. We had the better chances.
00:58We called best on the break a couple of times, and the goalkeeper made a really outstanding save just before the goal.
01:04So it was OK at least at half-time. OK's probably going to be the word of the day.
01:09But in the second half, when we sat a little bit deeper and defended, people were struggling in games like that.
01:15We needed to be a lot better on the counter. We need to show a little bit more quality, a little bit more care.
01:19When the ball presents itself in front of the goal, we need to put it in the back of the net to make ourselves a little bit more comfortable.
01:25In your more animated moment on the touchline, is that the message you were trying to get across to the players about the defensive side of the game?
01:31Just to squeeze up a bit higher, I thought at times in the second half, we had our front three or front four pressing, but the back six a little bit more hesitant and dropping in a bit deeper.
01:44That made it a bit too easy for Preston to get the ball from the centre half into the sixes or into the six and then play from there.
01:51And Preston weren't afraid of getting the ball in the box and I think it made it really difficult for us because we needed to be stopping at a sore, so we just have to get a bit higher advantage.
02:01You're unchanged today. Was there some tight selection calls?
02:04Yeah, I think there's plenty of lads that have really impressed over the past week or so and we really want to encourage everybody to have that stiff competition.
02:14But I thought we were pretty good last week. We thought that the way that Preston do press, we might open up their back line a little bit and so we wanted to have that page at the top end of the pitch.
02:24So there always is, even when we win games and have good performances, we still look at the selection.
02:29How close has Luke the route to starting?
02:31Oh yeah, Luke was a consideration, definitely a consideration this week. I thought that Preston was best.
02:35Brahmi looked very solid when he came in today, so everyone in the squad is extremely close to starting the pen run event.
02:41Andre Dezel, was that almost a Pompey career? High watermark, do you know?
02:46I think so, yeah, in terms of performance. The goal is a nice bonus in terms of what we want from Doz, but he was excellent in the middle of the park.
02:54We've always said there's loads of men to come from Andre, there's loads of men to come from.
02:58He's still young, I think he's 25, and in a very, very good spot. He's started the first four games of the season, four league games of the season for us, and I think he needs to keep it coming.
03:07How many times have we talked about the capability to drive forward with the ball that he should have in his locker?
03:11Yeah, he's got it. Athletically very good, technically very good. One of the most outstanding lads you'll ever want to work with.
03:18And, yeah, we still want and demand more from him, and I know that he wants that as well. And, yeah, I think he'll keep kicking in.
03:25At that time of year, obviously, the talk at the moment of Josh Murphy interested in Leicester. What's the situation there?
03:31Yeah, it's always interesting for me. You pick up a few little bits on Twitter, obviously, in the morning.
03:37Deliberately, I kept myself away from any of that yesterday, which was absolutely fine.
03:43You could see in Josh's performance today how good he was, and how committed he is to the football club.
03:47And, yeah, the message is really simple for everybody who spoke to the football club and Josh's himself.
03:53Have you been told of any interest? Have there been any pools, anything from other clubs?
03:56I mean, if there has, I've, again, not that I bury my head in the sand on this,
04:01but which sort of leaves me alone from Thursday nights onwards to prep for the game, and that's what I've done.
04:07I will go and get an update and actually find out what's going on, if anything's going on.
04:11But, again, I just spoke to the sectors of the game, and that was the message. It was focusing on the game, Josh.
04:18That's, you know, quite a strong message, isn't it, from the ball?
04:22Yeah, and that's great. It's always been the case here. It's an interesting, I guess, spot for the football club to be in,
04:30hopefully as we progress, where we might get interested in players that we have had, but we've always been in a position, I think, where we've been able to fend off any of the bids or any of the interests.
04:43We, at some point, obviously left a cell of players. I'm not that naive, but at the minute, you know, Josh is such an important part of what we're trying to achieve here last season,
04:54and has been today, and has been this year, so, you know, it's very important to us, if you want to keep in as a football club, to keep holding that.
05:01What happens if someone comes in and sticks down a large amount of money?
