00:00:00Hello friends, welcome to Friday Night Live with Honkily episode 223.1, we'll just continue
00:00:11the narrative, okay?
00:00:12Yeah, sure.
00:00:13We can do that.
00:00:14Yeah, the kind of experience where I thought I might die that day, okay?
00:00:20So, first one, car accident in Pennsylvania.
00:00:26What year was that?
00:00:28Ah, possibly 2004, 2000, no not 2004, it's probably 2005, okay, yeah, uh, thank you.
00:00:51And the second experience, where I thought I might die that day, 2018 earthquake in Alaska,
00:01:00okay?
00:01:01Yeah.
00:01:02The third one, 2020, uh, weekend travel, uh, in Saturday 9am morning, I drove by myself
00:01:14from Wasylaska to Tok, Alaska, or seven hours drive, okay?
00:01:22And, uh, uh, but I was sleepy.
00:01:24So, I was passing by this, uh, Matanuska Glacier Park, okay?
00:01:28So, I was like, you know, yeah, let's park my kind of glacier park, Matanuska Glacier,
00:01:34uh, and then, uh, let's run, uh, so that I don't get sleepy, because it's too dangerous to
00:01:43drive to when I'm sleepy, you know?
00:01:45Yeah.
00:01:46Yeah.
00:01:47Do I like whiskey?
00:01:48Yeah, sure.
00:01:49Yeah, so, when I parked my car and paid a fee, and, uh, went to that glacier park, uh,
00:02:00it's a great park, and, uh, nobody was there, it was like 9am, early in the morning, Saturday.
00:02:07I was the only patron of that park, yeah, so I paid entrance fee, okay?
00:02:16And then, parked my car, my car was the only car there, just nobody around, okay?
00:02:30Yeah, thank you.
00:02:31Let me take five minutes, Brad.
00:02:32I'm some vocalist, okay?
00:02:33Yeah, thank you.
00:02:34Mighty Proof, Future Leaders.
00:02:35Yeah, martial arts, education, and quality, and market, thank you.
00:02:36Five minutes, Brad.
00:02:37Yeah, thank you.
00:02:38Yeah, five minutes, okay.
00:02:39Yeah, five minutes.
00:02:40Okay.
00:02:41Okay.
00:02:42Okay.
00:02:43Yeah.
00:02:44Okay.
00:02:45Okay.
00:02:46Okay.
00:02:47Okay.
00:02:48Okay.
00:02:49Okay.
00:02:50Okay.
00:02:51Okay.
00:02:52Okay.
00:02:53Okay.
00:02:54Okay.
00:02:55Okay.
00:02:56Okay.
00:02:57Okay.
00:02:58Okay.
00:02:59Okay.
00:03:00Okay.
00:07:30That's the experience, okay?
00:07:31So, like, yeah, so the third time, yeah, Glacier Park in Matsu Valley, okay?
00:07:43So I ran, okay, just to get rid of the sleepiness, okay, because driving, when I'm sleepy, that's
00:07:58too dangerous, okay?
00:07:59So, yeah, so I ran on top of the glacier, so I ran on top of the glacier, so I ran on top
00:08:07of the glacier, the glacier park, and they have these cones to mark the safe path on top
00:08:17of the glacier, so I ran on top of the glacier, and then I ran on top of the glacier, okay?
00:08:22So I ran on top of the glacier along the path, marked path with plastic cones, and then I had
00:08:38enough running, okay, so I ran on top of the glacier, and then I ran on top of the glacier, and then I ran on top of the glacier, and then I ran back toward the parking lot, because, yeah, okay, now I'm totally not sleepy, okay?
00:08:51But by mistake, I missed the mark, I'm like, okay, I've been running back toward the parking lot, and now where are the cones?
00:09:01Oh, yeah, it's over there, okay, so by mistake, I missed the mark, I went off the trail, and that was like 10 a.m., so, in September, okay?
00:09:15Yeah, so, it's not winter, it's fall, autumn season, so, 10 a.m., yeah, so, it start to heat up, the temperature-wise, okay?
00:09:33And I heard some sound, again, there was nobody around, I was alone in that park, okay?
00:09:43My car was the only car in the parking lot, okay?
00:09:50So, I heard some sound, okay, what was that sound?
00:09:55Whatever.
00:09:57And then my feet sank about by two inches as I was standing on top of the glacier.
00:10:06I was like, what is this?
00:10:08And a couple seconds later, my entire body sank.
00:10:17It was very muddy water.
00:10:23In that glacier, okay?
00:10:27So, I did not know anything about that.
00:10:31Glacial pool.
00:10:33Well, in that pool, overnight, it freezes only on the top of that water, on the surface.
00:10:48It was very thin ice.
00:10:50Okay.
00:10:59Look, stop distracting me, okay?
00:11:03I'm telling your story.
00:11:05If I'm boring to you, yeah, feel free to leave, but don't distract me, okay?
00:11:11Yeah.
00:11:12I'm going to give you a second chance.
00:11:19All right, yeah.
00:11:21Now.
00:11:24So, my entire body sank.
00:11:28My cell phone was in my pocket.
00:11:31Okay?
00:11:32Yeah.
00:11:33My entire body sank, okay?
00:11:34How deep was that glacier pool?
00:11:38I don't know.
00:11:39But, obviously, it was taller than my height.
00:11:41I'm 5 foot 10 inches.
00:11:44I don't know how deep was that glacier pool.
00:11:48I don't know.
00:11:48Maybe.
00:11:50Who knows?
00:11:5110 feet?
00:11:5230 feet?
00:11:54No idea.
00:11:55And it was cold water.
00:12:02But, it was my entire body sank.
00:12:04But, I know how to swim.
00:12:06I learned how to swim, okay?
00:12:07When I was in elementary school, South, South Korea, okay?
00:12:10So, yeah.
00:12:11Swim up and then, put my two arms on that glacier ice, and it broke.
00:12:22So, I sank again.
00:12:25Then, swam up again.
00:12:27And then, yeah.
00:12:28Next ice, broke again.
00:12:30It did that for, what?
00:12:32Three times.
00:12:34I was out of breath.
00:12:39And it was very cold water.
00:12:43Body water.
00:12:43And after several times, maybe three times, four times, I don't know about that, okay?
00:12:52It finally stopped breaking, okay?
00:12:53So, I crawled out of it because I do exercise.
00:12:56I do pull-ups.
00:12:57I can lift up my own body weight with my two arms because I do upside-down shoulder push-ups, pull-ups, okay?
00:13:06Yeah, calenthenics, muscle exercise, okay?
00:13:09I was so wrong, okay?
00:13:11So, yeah, but I was so out of breath after I crawled out of that glacier pool.
00:13:15And then, I heard more sounds.
00:13:20That sound turned out to be ice melting, cracking, because it was like 10 a.m.
00:13:30So, it's nearing the noon, so temperature go up and up.
00:13:36So, all these ice underneath me, they are melting.
00:13:42Below that, glacier pool, water, cold water.
00:13:55So, but I did take some selfies, because my camera was still working, okay?
00:14:01Cell phone camera was still working, okay?
00:14:03For a while, okay?
00:14:05So, I took some selfies, okay?
00:14:07Muddy face, all wet.
00:14:12And then, took my breath, okay?
00:14:16And because I was out of breath, okay?
00:14:18So, like, ah.
00:14:21Holder exhausted.
00:14:25And then, I heard more sounds, ice melting, cracking sounds, okay?
00:14:31Now, I got onto my knees.
00:14:33To evenly distribute my body weight.
00:14:37Two legs and two arms.
00:14:38So, I crawled toward that established trail with cones, okay?
00:14:43So, I crawled very slowly.
00:14:46And I got to that cone, the established trail, safe trail, okay?
00:14:52And then, I ran back to my parking lot.
00:14:56There was, like, 10.30 a.m.
00:14:58By then, there were a lot of people, parked cars.
00:15:03Also, park rangers in the parking lot, okay?
00:15:06And then, they saw me.
00:15:10Soft, wet.
00:15:13Muddy face, okay?
00:15:14And then, they saw me, parked rangers there, okay?
00:15:18And I think that's why, nowadays, they do not allow solo travelers anymore.
00:15:34It's group-guided tour only, these days.
00:15:37I think it's because of me.
00:15:43Okay?
00:15:44Because I did go back there, a couple years later.
00:15:46And I told them, yeah, I want to, I don't want to want group tour.
00:15:51I just want to hike alone.
00:15:55And they would not allow it.
00:15:58I think they changed their policy because of me.
00:16:03Okay?
00:16:04But I didn't tell them anything.
00:16:06But they know.
00:16:08They saw me.
00:16:09Soft, wet.
00:16:11Muddy face.
00:16:12I did not tell them, but it was not necessary.
00:16:17Because they knew what it was.
00:16:20They exactly knew what I did through.
00:16:24Okay?
00:16:24Because they work there.
00:16:25They're park rangers there, okay?
00:16:33Okay?
00:16:34Now, let's take five minutes break.
00:16:36Vocal rest.
00:16:36Okay?
00:16:37Yeah.
00:16:37So, my proud future leaders, yeah, martial arts, education, and career development.
00:16:41Okay?
00:16:42All right.
00:16:45Five minutes break.
00:16:46Yeah.
00:16:48Let's get some air.
00:16:53Bye-bye.
00:21:53Yeah, so some Alaska adventure stories.
00:21:56Yeah, I guess I got some fair share of that.
00:22:00Yeah, past 10 years.
00:22:03Right?
00:22:03Oh, Zoom meeting?
00:22:06Yeah, it takes too much energy.
00:22:07I'm 47.
00:22:08I don't have that level of energy anymore.
00:22:10Okay?
00:22:11Yeah.
00:22:12That's why.
00:22:13I got old.
00:22:14Okay?
00:22:15Yeah.
00:22:15Now, let me have some watermelon vodka, I mean, watermelon, I mean, watermelon, berry vodka, it almost tastes like watermelon, cucumber too.
00:22:30Yeah.
00:23:00Okay, I learned, okay, I learned before that, yeah, glacier is dangerous because there's some ice cover, snow cover, below that, not even water, just air.
00:23:14Okay, yeah.
00:23:15Yeah.
00:23:16Okay, yeah.
00:23:18Yeah.
00:23:19Yeah.
00:23:20Yeah.
00:23:21I lost their lives from those situations, okay?
00:23:23I have read about it, okay?
00:23:27So I was lucky, there was water beneath that ice,
00:23:31not some air.
00:23:33So I got lucky that day.
00:23:36But I did think that I might die that day
00:23:38because the ice keep on breaking
00:23:40as I try to climb out of it.
00:23:48I thought I might die that day, okay?
00:23:51I got lucky.
00:23:52Okay, yeah.
00:23:54Okay, so yeah, went to parking lot.
00:23:57In my car, yeah, I changed your clothes, okay?
00:24:01So, and towel as well, so, paper towel.
00:24:04So I drive myself, change my clothings.
00:24:10In my car, where nobody was watching, okay?
00:24:14So, and continue to drive to TOK, Alaska, T-O-K, okay?
00:24:19TOK.
00:24:20And in the middle, there's this wonderful town
00:24:23called Glen Alley.
00:24:25I love that town, okay?
00:24:26I've been to TOK many times, okay?
00:24:28Yeah.
00:24:29It's an intersection, okay?
00:24:31So, for travelers, okay?
00:24:32So, there's very nice restaurant there.
00:24:36I've been there many times, okay?
00:24:37And there, I meet my fellow Alaskans,
00:24:41and who I've never met before, and we start to talk, okay?
00:24:50Glen Alley, nice restaurant there, okay?
00:24:53Yeah.
00:24:54Just random strangers, okay?
00:24:57Yeah, we're very friendly, so we start to have conversation.
00:25:01And some of them are bear hunters, yeah, bear hunting license.
00:25:10It is legal, okay?
00:25:12Yeah, bear tax, bear hunting license, okay?
00:25:15It is legal, okay?
00:25:17It's a big limit, like one bear per year, something like that, okay?
00:25:20So, yeah, bear hunters, okay?
00:25:21So, and they told me wonderful stories.
00:25:29Their own experience, also experience of their uncles, okay?
00:25:36And so, this gentleman told me that his uncle is also bear hunter.
00:25:46Yeah, Alaskan, brown bear, grizzlies, big bears, okay?
00:25:49And with hunting ruffles and stuff, okay?
00:25:51So, he told me the story that his uncle told him,
00:25:58and I'm telling you what that story was.
00:26:01It's fascinating, okay?
00:26:03So, his uncle with hunting rifle and bear hunting license went out there alone to hunt grizzly,
00:26:16brown bear, alone, okay?
00:26:24And at some point, he found himself to be surrounded by three big grizzly bears.
00:26:42And those three big brown grizzly bears in Alaska, they were hunting that gentleman's uncle in coordination,
00:27:00just like lions in Africa, they surrounded him, three bears surrounded this gentleman's uncle.
00:27:11When he was alone out there to hunt bears.
00:27:17So, he got hunting rifle, he's a hunter, okay, bear hunter, okay?
00:27:27So, he shot one of those three bears, and that bear fell.
00:27:34So, I guess he's a very good shot, I guess he's a very good shot, okay?
00:27:37And the other two bears ran away.
00:27:40Okay?
00:27:41Yeah.
00:27:42True story.
00:27:43Okay?
00:27:44Yeah.
00:27:45True story.
00:27:46Yeah.
00:27:47Bears are smart, okay?
00:27:48They're very intelligent, okay?
00:27:49Yeah.
00:27:50But I, until that day, I did not know bear sometimes hunt humans in coordination, just like lions in Africa.
00:28:06I never heard about it until that day, but it was not the same day I fell to Glacier Pool, okay?
00:28:23It was another time in Glenland.
00:28:28Because I've been there many times, okay?
00:28:48And that gentleman himself has some interesting experience in bear hunting, okay?
00:28:53But he went out there himself alone, just like his uncle, okay?
00:28:58To hunt grizzly brown bear with hunting license and hunting rifle, okay?
00:29:04And so, he went out there alone in the woods with his hunting rifle, bear hunting license,
00:29:12to hunt brown bear, grizzly in Alaska, okay?
00:29:17But that was his story, not his uncle's story, okay?
00:29:21And there was this, he went through this hiking trail, and he was about to turn the corner,
00:29:29but he heard some sound, and he can recognize that he was grizzly, brown bear, big brown bear,
00:29:46okay?
00:29:47So, he changed his mind, okay, and he turned around, and came back to his parking lot, okay?
00:30:03Because he's experienced bear hunter, so he can read the mood, emotion, feelings of this grizzly bear by hearing,
00:30:15hearing the kind of grunts, like, sound that this grizzly around the corner was making.
00:30:24So, I guess the intention of that grizzly bear was, hey, I smell you, I hear you, you human being,
00:30:35yeah, but don't come to me, because I'm not in a good mood, okay?
00:30:41So, that would be my guess, okay?
00:30:44So, yeah, this gentleman turned around, and did go around the corner, he just turned around and went to the parking lot, okay?
00:30:54So, yeah, and he also told me some other occasions, yeah, they did, got some Alaska brown grizzly bear, legally,
00:31:12because they're hunting license, okay, and they did skin it, bear fall, okay?
00:31:20Yeah, highly prized item, okay?
00:31:22Yeah, bear fall, they skinned it, and also they took the meat of bear, and they cooked it, and they ate them, bear steak.
00:31:37He said, though, his favorite part of bear meat is the back, back muscle, okay?
00:31:45He said, that's the best part of bear meat, and I believe him, okay?
00:31:58Yeah.
00:32:01Have I ever had a bear meat?
00:32:03Maybe, maybe not, okay, because when I was working in JBL, there's, like, U.S. Army Air Force Base in Anchorage, okay?
00:32:13So, I used to work there as a program, okay?
00:32:15About seven years ago, okay?
00:32:19And one of my colleagues, our colleagues, he's also, I think he's a Marine veteran, okay?
00:32:28I'm U.S. Army veteran, okay?
00:32:30And he said, yeah, this is a bear meat, like, ground bear meat hamburger, like, patty.
00:32:41That's what he said, okay?
00:32:43And I did eat it.
00:32:45It could have been real bear, ground bear meat, okay?
00:32:49Maybe he was joking, because to me, it tastes just like beef, beef burger patty, okay?
00:32:56But it could have been bear meat, because that's what he said to us.
00:33:02The potluck party, lunch party, okay?
00:33:05But maybe he was joking, because he tasted, to me, it's just like beef patty, hamburger patty, okay?
00:33:13But it could have been bear meat, because that's what he said, but did he tell the truth, or did he joke about it?
00:33:21I don't know, but I would love to try bear meat textile, so that I can feel the actual texture, as opposed to ground, okay?
00:33:39Yeah...
00:33:40Maybe one there...
00:33:42I've been living in Alaska for the past 10 years, okay?
00:33:48So, I have many friends here, and some of them are bear hunters.
00:33:56Okay?
00:33:57Yeah.
00:33:59Yeah.
00:34:04Yeah.
00:34:07Let's say 5 minutes break, okay?
00:34:09Vocal rest.
00:34:11Martial arts, education, curriculum, okay?
00:34:13Yeah, thank you.
00:34:155 minutes break, thank you.
00:34:17Yeah.
00:34:19Interesting
00:34:21Alaskan adventure. Stories.
00:34:23Yeah.
01:00:17Why?
01:04:47Yeah.
01:05:17Yeah.
01:05:47Yeah.
01:06:16Yeah.
01:08:16Yeah.
01:08:46Yeah.
01:09:16Yeah.
01:10:16Yeah.
01:11:46Okay.
01:13:16Yeah.
01:13:46Yeah.
01:14:16Okay.
01:15:16Yeah.
01:15:46Yeah.
01:16:16Yeah.
01:16:46Yeah.
01:17:16Yeah.
01:17:46Yeah.
01:18:16Yeah.
01:18:46Okay.
01:19:16Yeah.
01:19:46Yeah.
