Media practitioners should do lifestyle checks on government officials, says Puno

Members of the media ought to carry out lifestyle checks on government officials, House Deputy Speaker Antipolo City 1st district Rep. Ronaldo "Ronnie" Puno said. 00:12I know that on social media, there's a lifestyle check of other families and other families in our disputes, right?

00:25And I don't see any reason why media should not be allowed to do this, or anybody for that matter.

00:33Ang ano natin, what we have to focus on, if we're going to review yung mga batas, covering these things,

00:38is when does improper display of your possessions constitute something that is inimical or contrary to the society's values and beliefs?

00:53And worse, when is it contrary to law?

00:57Kasi magla-lifestyle check ka, hindi lang para machismis, di ba?

01:00Magla-lifestyle check siya para makasuhan mo.

01:03Kasi after na-lifestyle check mo yan, hindi niya mapaliwanag, haanapin mo na yung kanyang BIR, haanapin mo na yung kanyang salin.

01:10Di ba? Kasi kadalasan, wow, humingi ka ng BIR return ng tao, hindi naman bibigay sa'yo eh.

01:16Di ba? Kasi meron din mga data privacy, kung ano-ano.

01:20Nobody can just come in.

01:22I think even the Freedom of Information Act does not allow that.

01:25That I will go ask for your BIR return, hindi naman siguro pwede yun.

01:30But, kung nakita ka na meron kang ostentatious display of wealth,

01:35siguro that should be enough basis for an investigative body to look into the records of a public official.
