Transcript
00:00Hi there, it's John Blow from the Yorkshire Post Features team. Here's what's coming up in the week ahead.
00:05It's time to get ready for autumn as the season arrives today according to the meteorological calendar.
00:11That also means that life's back to normal after the summer holidays, not only for schools as students go back this week, but also the return of Parliament today.
00:20Elsewhere, around 60,000 people are getting ready to take part in the Great North Run from Newcastle to South Shields on Sunday.
00:26Many runners from Yorkshire will be travelling up to the North East for the event, with a considerable number taking it on for charity.
00:35And one of Yorkshire's many folk traditions will be happening at the weekend with the return of the Salby Bridge Rush Bearing Festival in Calderdale.
00:42The custom dates back many centuries to when rushes were used as a covering for church floors.
00:48Each year, in late summer, the old rushes were cleared out and new ones taken to the churches.
00:52The event in Salby Bridge, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, usually attracts huge crowds as the rush car makes its way through the town and its surrounding villages over the two days.
