ABOUT THE BOOK
In a world of many supernatural races, most unknown to the world it makes it hard for them to find a mate, so when Dylan Vito meets Rose Bellamy things start getting complicated, but he just can’t stay away from her and it’s a risk he knows he shouldn’t take but can’t help taking, the relationship isn’t the only thing getting complicated. A whirlwind of things become evident in their lives. Can they overcome it all and survive the complications and obstacles coming their way or will things spiral out of control as the web of hunters, and races put them on the run. Or another question weighing on their minds is who or what Rose really is? Will there be enough clues and research left behind to figure it out?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Marie, ever since I was in middle school I would be writing in my journal or writing pros or poems sometimes songs, life wasn’t easy growing up, so I would find myself journaling or reading it was my escape from reality my own fantasy world when I needed an escape during difficult painful moments in my life. If it wasn’t writing, reading or journaling it was listening to music. I enjoy anything creative that I’m able to do. My imagination never stops, it’s been like this since I was a child. I enjoy taking pictures and dancing to my favorite music and singing along if I can. My favorite season is Autumn because of all the amazing colors. I have three sayings that I used my whole life.

00:00This is Speaking of Writers. I'm Steve Richards.
00:08This is the Speaking of Writers podcast. I'm Steve Richards.
00:12The book is Lost Legacies, book one. The author Marie Nyshut.
00:17It is her debut.
00:19And a supernatural romance packed with mystery, forbidden attraction,
00:24and a world hiding more secrets than it reveals.
00:27Marie shares the inspiration behind her paranormal universe,
00:31how journaling became her refuge during tough times,
00:35and the lifelong creativity that brought her characters to life,
00:39from her love of autumn to the quotes that have guided her journey.
00:44And welcome to Marie Nyshut.
00:49So this is your debut.
00:52And start by telling me a little bit about Lost Legacies
00:56and how this story began for you.
00:59Okay.
01:00So when I was younger,
01:01like I used to like escape into my own little world
01:05when things were really tough.
01:06So I would have a bunch of,
01:09I started making up my own worlds,
01:13my own fantasy worlds that I was happy and excited in.
01:16And I like where I was the hero and things like that.
01:20So that's how it came about.
01:23But I've always had a thing for supernatural things,
01:28like vampires, werewolves, witches, all of that.
01:32So I decided to make that my world that I would come into.
01:36And when I did this,
01:38I decided to try to do it as different as I could.
01:42Because with my world,
01:46there is more than just vampires and witches and all that.
01:49And it's pretty cool.
01:51So, and that's how it came about.
01:53I would also have dreams where I would have dreams
01:56about what I wanted to put in there.
01:58And I would start writing it down.
02:00So that's what I would do.
02:02That's how it came about.
02:03Marie, what drew you to the supernatural genre?
02:06And how did you build the world that your characters live in?
02:09I built the world.
02:11What drew me to the supernatural genre is that
02:14I watched a lot of supernatural stuff.
02:19Like I would watch Supernatural, the series, obviously.
02:21And then I would watch vampires.
02:23I would watch Vampire Diaries.
02:25I would watch the originals.
02:26I would watch Legacies and all of that.
02:29And that's what drew me in.
02:30I just like that because it's kind of cool,
02:33the idea of having something like more out there
02:37instead of just humans.
02:38And so that's why I did that.
02:40So, and as for my world, how it came about,
02:44actually, I was sitting one day and I was thinking about it.
02:49And I was like, okay, now I want them to be here,
02:52but I want them to have their own little area that they're in.
02:55Because as the story goes, they are the spies in that story.
02:59So they have their little shadow realm that they're in.
03:03And so that's how I started creating the world in my mind.
03:06And the shadow realm is like a magical world.
03:08So, like, things just start appearing out of nowhere.
03:12It's pretty cool.
03:13So I like it a lot.
03:15I mentioned journaling in the introduction.
03:17Poetry, songwriting, growing up.
03:20How has your personal story shaped your writing voice?
03:23It's hard for me to talk about sometimes.
03:31A lot of bad things happened to me when I was younger.
03:34And I needed to find a way where I was accepted for who I was,
03:41where I could escape from all the bad that was going on in my life.
03:45And just be able to use what happened in my life as part of that,
03:51part of the story when I was younger.
03:54So, and the things that have happened in my personal life,
03:58like things that have came up,
04:00like abuse and other things like that,
04:03that I struggled with when I was,
04:05that I had to deal with when I was younger.
04:07Um, I just needed an escape and I needed an escape where a world I was loved in
04:13and cared about and that I actually meant something.
04:16So, because my dad, he was the biggest one because my dad, he,
04:21he, he, he made me who I am today.
04:24My dad was an amazing man.
04:27He was sweet.
04:28He was funny.
04:28He was just, and he always had a grin on his face.
04:32And so he made my world easier.
04:34So some of my characters are literally based off of my family,
04:39the people who made, that made me happy.
04:42And I was safe with, and I felt security with,
04:44and I enjoyed being around.
04:46And so that's how some of the characters,
04:48their personalities are kind of based off that.
04:51So.
04:52Let's talk about those characters, two of them, Dylan and Rose,
04:54their connection is magnetic and complicated too.
04:58What inspired their dynamic?
05:00Like, is it sounds like a few family members, right?
05:06And Rose, I will admit, Rose is kind of based off of my own personality.
05:11So, and then there, and then, and she is,
05:15I always have struggled with my own, um,
05:19how I, my own insecurities and I want to,
05:22and I was an average person and I wanted Rose to kind of be based off of that
05:26and how she is like, she struggled with that.
05:29And as she grew more and more,
05:32she realized that there was so much more to her than she did.
05:35Then she realized.
05:36And for Dylan, he is, um,
05:40he is what I call would be like my dream guy.
05:44Cause I always had like this, um,
05:47I always had this picture of a guy in my head.
05:49He had like jet black hair and he was tall and he had these gorgeous blue eyes.
05:53And so I was like, yeah, that's what I'm going to base off.
05:58But his personality wise is based off of relationships.
06:02I have had in my past where there was some cool people.
06:05Like one of them was a guy named David.
06:06He was really sweet, really great.
06:08And so he, he kind of was based off him.
06:11So, and so that's how they kind of came into the story.
06:14I kind of used some of my own personal experience with that and my past stuff
06:18that I dealt with, um,
06:19and what Rose had been through, um,
06:22with what have happened with her and why her situation came about,
06:27um, where's where she was just heartbroken and felt she wasn't good enough.
06:32So without giving too much away here,
06:36there's a mystery around Rose's identity.
06:38Did you plan that from the start or did it evolve as you were?
06:42Oh yeah.
06:43Oh no.
06:44I planned it from the start because I wanted her to start off as someone that
06:48So I have, I will bring up Shanice.
06:52You know, Shanice, um,
06:55I, she kind of was supposed to be at the beginning.
06:58Everyone's love, love just loved her.
07:00Okay.
07:00And Shanice was also the one that encouraged Rose.
07:04So Rose is, um,
07:08she's just, she, she just starts off very, um,
07:13boring at first and you think she's not that great at first,
07:17but there's so much mystery behind her that she didn't even know about that.
07:22She's like, and as the story moves on, she evolves more.
07:26And then she becomes a very, um, fun, loving, interesting character,
07:32uh, a strong character.
07:34She is my hero.
07:34So, um, she, I just wanted it to start off like, okay,
07:40we're going to go ahead and put one girl in here that people are going to love
07:42right away.
07:43And that was Shanice.
07:44And then we were going to have Rose who in the first place,
07:47she was already shy in the first place for her to be insecure and shy in the
07:51first place.
07:52She is going to be more,
07:53I'm just going to stay quiet and not say nothing and just listen to everybody
07:56else.
07:57Um, because I don't feel so great about myself.
07:59And so she starts off very normal, very boring at first,
08:05but she's very sweet though.
08:06She's normal and sweet, but she's very shy.
08:09And so at first that's how the story starts off.
08:11And as she gets built up, built up more, as she builds up more,
08:15she becomes someone that just is loved, just completely loved.
08:19So, and, um, I, of course,
08:22since I am the one who wrote about made her, I loved her from the beginning.
08:26And so did my, my, um, my stepdaughter.
08:29She loved her from the beginning and she is actually not.
08:31And that's the other thing I forgot to mention is Rose is not just based off
08:34of me.
08:34She's based off of my stepdaughter too.
08:36And so she, um, she's a mix of both of us.
08:39And so we all start off a little shy and everyone thinks we're a bit stuck up
08:43at first.
08:44Cause we don't talk and we don't say nothing or we're just boring people.
08:48But once they get to know us, we, we are, we're a lot of fun.
08:52So, and that's how I have started Rose off like that.
08:55So her mystery is definitely.
08:59Go ahead.
09:00Yeah.
09:00I was going to say, I want to, uh, talk a little bit about your creative process.
09:04Are you a plotter or do you let the outliner or do you let the story unfold as
09:09you're writing it?
09:10I start off with a, um, a base plot.
09:16And then as I write, I start to make the story starts to make itself.
09:23So I don't have a full out, like outline right away.
09:26It's just the beginning of my story.
09:27And then as I move in through the process, I start thinking about the things that would
09:33be cool to add in there.
09:34I'll take notes on a little notebook.
09:36Um, that's a funny story too, if you want to hear that one later, but, um, I have a,
09:41I have a notebook that I'll write down on and I'll write ideas down.
09:44And as I go through the story, I'll put them in when I wear, where I want to put them in.
09:48So, and that's, so it does make itself pretty much.
09:51It involves itself.
09:53And, um, it's my ideas, but I kind of let the story write itself in a way.
09:57So I want to hear that notebook story now.
10:00It had something to do with, did your aunt give you that notebook?
10:05What is the story?
10:06I actually, so I, in the past, I have written before, but not books.
10:13Okay.
10:14And, um, I wasn't, I didn't have a lot of people encouraging me to write.
10:18And so one day I was talking to my daughter.
10:22I used to do short stories, like on my games that I would play.
10:24Like I, I play final fantasy, like a final fantasy game.
10:28I would do short stories.
10:29And we had this whole series we were starting, me and my friends.
10:33And, um, I would do, I worked on the newspaper and stuff like that.
10:36Um, but I didn't have a lot.
10:37When I said I wanted to write, they were like, you know, that's not a promising career.
10:42And I'm like, okay, I understand that, but I love to write.
10:45That's just who I am as a person.
10:47So I did, cause I didn't have enough support in the back, in the back, you know,
10:52helping me through my support system.
10:54Wanting me to help me, encourage me to write.
10:58Um, I quit writing and I was just like, I'm just going to stop now.
11:02And, um, then on my birthday, um, my aunt Mavis, um, had come.
11:09And, and then this was the first time my stepdaughter was at my birthday because she,
11:14she had originally lived somewhere else and we had, I had just moved her out here.
11:17And, um, she'd go, I go, what am I going to do with this?
11:22I actually, I wish I had the book on me so I could show you it.
11:25Because I, oh, yeah, the second, just like, I'm going to get the book.
11:29And this, my, my, my daughter's going to get the book, but it was this tiny little thing.
11:34Okay.
11:34And it's Bigfoot.
11:35And I'm going, I looked at her and I was like, what am I going to do with this?
11:42It's like, you know what I'm going to do with this?
11:44It's like a little, like you can't do anything in it.
11:46And, um, so she's all, well, mom, you said you used to write.
11:51And I said, yeah, yeah, I did.
11:52She goes, well, why don't you start writing down ideas, um, in that book?
11:57And as you write the ideas down, maybe it'll help you inspire you more to write, get back to writing.
12:03Okay.
12:04And then I was like, all right, fine.
12:06You know?
12:06And so I started, I actually said, oh no, that's stupid.
12:09That's silly.
12:10You know, because I actually laughed it off first.
12:12I was like, yeah, I'm right.
12:13You know, I haven't written in so long.
12:15I don't even know where that's going to come from.
12:18And then, so you never know.
12:21You never know.
12:22Okay.
12:22Here it is.
12:23Here it is.
12:24There's the little book.
12:25There's the little book.
12:26Big book.
12:26Big book.
12:26Big book.
12:27Big book.
12:27This is the start of my book.
12:28So yes.
12:29And, um, so I was like, all right, okay.
12:34I said, so I'll just go, I'll slap this off and be like, yeah, right.
12:37That's not going to happen.
12:38And then all of a sudden, I think it was that, wasn't that night.
12:41It was that night.
12:43But then all of a sudden I started getting ideas and I was like, okay, well, I guess
12:49my ideas weren't over with after all.
12:51I guess I really miss writing.
12:54And so I started taking the notes and I was like, this is inspiring me to write.
12:57And then I just wrote this whole book guide.
12:59Honestly, I would not think it would turn into this like really fun book series.
13:04I was like, and I was like, the more I thought about it, I was like, okay, well, I'm going to
13:09go ahead and I'm going to try to get published, even though, you know, I mean, we'll see how
13:13it works.
13:14And, um, so Rise of the Public got ahold of me and I was like, all right.
13:19Um, it was actually May.
13:20She was the first one to talk to me.
13:21I don't know.
13:22May's not there now, but she calls me up and I told her the story and she was like, oh,
13:27that sounds like a great book.
13:28It's a great story.
13:29I was like, all right.
13:30And so I went and I decided that she wanted the manuscript.
13:33She went, I, so I get, I sent her the first five chapters of it and she loved it.
13:38And so did everyone else.
13:40They loved it.
13:40You know, there were people who reviewed everything.
13:42They liked it and they thought it was really great.
13:44And, um, then, uh, they asked me if I wanted someone to do marketing and I added Frank and
13:50well, they gave me Frank and they've been wonderful by the way.
13:53I love them.
13:54I love all of them.
13:55They've been really great and encouraging about things.
13:57But, uh, then I was like, all right, I'll start writing it.
13:58And then I got, I kept getting calls and she kept saying, may goes, oh, this is going to
14:04be amazing.
14:05I think this is a really great book.
14:06I think it's going to be a bestseller.
14:08I go, well, that would be awesome if it was, but I just want to get it out there at least,
14:12you know, cause I want to be able to have my book out there because it's a fun story.
14:16And, um, so next thing I know, I start writing like crazy and I was on a time limit.
14:23They had put me, I was put on a time limit.
14:25I was rushing through it way too much.
14:27So, but it turned out to be awesome.
14:31Like I had my, my stepdaughter read some of it.
14:34My cousin read some of it, one of my best friends.
14:36And she's just like this really cool book.
14:38And she like, they couldn't stop turning the page.
14:40They were like, so drawn into it.
14:42And I was like, okay, well, all right.
14:45I guess, I guess I still have it.
14:48So, cause it was actually a person, a professor in my college that told me that I should go
14:53into that.
14:53And I was like, you should be an author.
14:55She said, and I was like, oh, whatever.
14:57I'm not that great.
14:58And yeah.
14:59Anyways, that's how it all started.
15:01And now you have your debut lost legacy book one.
15:06You also have a website to lost legacies.com.
15:10You can check out more on that.
15:11I do.
15:12You can get the book at writersrepublic.com, Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
15:16Autumn is your favorite season.
15:18Does that show up in the atmosphere or setting of the book?
15:25I think, I think I mentioned it.
15:27I don't really set up the atmosphere.
15:29It's more like because Rose was supposed to be born in summer, her story starts out in
15:35summer, but it does talk about how she loves autumn.
15:39Um, it does have, I do bring in all the colors because the reason I love autumn is because of
15:45all the different colors that come into it and, um, like the leaves, how they change and
15:50all of that.
15:51Um, but it's kind of mentioned in there a little bit.
15:54They talk about a little bit, um, but not a lot.
15:57So.
15:59Lost legacies, as we mentioned is the first in a series.
16:02Can readers expect more from Dylan and Rose?
16:07Oh yeah, they will.
16:08I actually, there's a, I am going to learn some, I'm going to say a couple of things
16:13here.
16:13Um, I've already started part two of the series, which is hybrid legacies.
16:19That's the title.
16:20Okay.
16:21Um, and then there's also another series that there's another, there's book three, but after
16:27this first series is done, um, I'm actually, it's not going to actually be over because after
16:35I get the first story down, there's going to be a extension from it, which is going to
16:41be very good.
16:42It's going to be exciting and I cannot wait.
16:44And as for, um, my book two, the one I've already started on, they're going to find a
16:49very, uh, the people when they read are going to find a character that they absolutely love
16:53in there.
16:54He's funny and he's awesome.
16:56So I, I mean, there's more characters that are added in there.
17:00Um, more people joining them.
17:03And, uh, but the person I made, he was just awesome.
17:07And so I was like, I need to make someone so a bit complex and different that people are
17:13just going to be like, okay, this is this.
17:15I like this one.
17:16So yeah, so that's, I will let it on that.
17:19And then, like I said, after this series, after all of these, this series, this first
17:23part of the series is that we go into the next series and that the extension of the series,
17:28which is going to be fun.
17:30You can tell Marina has a lot coming and she's excited and a lot of energy and really excited
17:37about what's to come to, uh, lost legacies book one.
17:41What would you like readers?
17:42What's the main message you would like them to take away from this book?
17:46So I have a few parts in there, but, um, a lot of people, and I don't have a problem
17:53with the internet at all, but a lot of like my children kind of brought that in there,
17:58but days like people spend more time on the internet, worrying about what people are saying
18:07on the internet, um, Facebook, like stuff like that.
18:10And I don't have a problem with that or the internet at all, but when it comes to there's
18:15people out there, there's something beyond the internet and there is your family and there's
18:19your friends who love you very much and they want to see you.
18:22And then the other part of it is that love can come in every shape or form and it's amazing.
18:30And it, um, it just expresses that people are who they are and they're good people.
18:39And before you get to know, you know, before you start making judgments on them right away,
18:43you figure out who they are as a person.
18:44Um, and, um, that has a lot to do with my past too, cause I was bullied really bad in
18:50school.
18:50And so there was a lot of judgmental things happening.
18:53And, um, so my base story is, is that we can all live in unity and happy, but we have
19:02to open ourselves to that instead of worrying about what's out there in the world right now.
19:07Um, you know, um, looks, personality is a big one.
19:11Looks are not huge cause it looks fade.
19:14Um, and there was more to it.
19:17I'm trying to think what else I was going to say.
19:18What else was I saying?
19:22Anyways, but it just basically you can find love no matter what.
19:26Okay.
19:27There it's any, anyone out there, it can come in any shape, form or anything like that.
19:31And it doesn't matter, but deep down there is, they have a heart that's very strong and
19:39very loving, but you have to look beyond the surface is basically what my story is going
19:44on.
19:44And then the other part is a lot.
19:47My daughter struggles, my daughter, Ruby, she struggles a lot in school with, um, because
19:52she's, she's, she's a Christian.
19:54Like I am, she struggles a lot in school with people trying to pressure her to, um,
20:01sleep with people, you know, to have sex with people, things like that, you know, and she's
20:06in high school.
20:07My daughter is very strong about wanting to stay a virgin until she is, is married.
20:12Okay.
20:13And so she, in that story, it does talk about morals where you, it doesn't matter if a person
20:19cares about you and loves you for who you are.
20:23If you want to wait, then you can wait.
20:25That person can wait.
20:27They will love you and accept it.
20:28Um, and so, I mean, it's just a lot of morals that are in there that I've really, um, put
20:34in there too.
20:35So that's really good.
20:37Like looking on the inside, loving yourself, knowing that, you know, just because people
20:44say things to you and, um, like make fun of you or mean to you doesn't mean you're not
20:51a beautiful person.
20:51Um, and so, because everyone is beautiful in their own way and that is where that comes
20:58from and just having unity and being time, spending time with your family instead of
21:02always internet to big deal, but look beyond the internet because there's more people out
21:07there who actually want to spend time with you and love you.
21:09So that's how that is the main parts of the story.
