Major delays to Sydney rail network including airport line amid city track repairs

Sydney's railway network has been hit by major delays due to a signalling issue at St James station in the CBD.

00:00It's a mixed bag for commuters in Sydney at the moment.

00:05I'm not going to call it Freaky Friday because it's not Freaky Friday for everyone.

00:09The main services impacted are on the T2, the T3 and the T8,

00:14which is mainly in Sydney's inner west and south west.

00:17One of the most severe impacts has been for Sydney Airport.

00:20People trying to go to and from Sydney Airport are facing major delays this morning,

00:25especially via Reevesby.

00:27There was one service in particular this morning that people had to wait an hour and a half.

00:31My sister had an interview this morning,

00:33so she was really worried that she wasn't going to make it on time.

00:36When there were trains that arrived at the platform,

00:38it was completely packed and you couldn't even hop on.

00:41We just didn't really know what was going on.

00:43Yeah, and didn't know how long to expect the delay.

00:46Yeah, we were kind of expecting an announcement, I guess, as to what was happening,

00:48but yeah, didn't hear anything.

00:50At the moment, buses are replacing trains in some areas

00:53between Campbelltown and other parts in the MacArthur region,

00:57and the Transport for New South Wales authorities are confident

01:01they'll have urgent track repairs finished soon.
