00:00Hello and welcome to this Queensland James weather update for Friday.
00:04We have got a cold outbreak that is moving across the southeast.
00:07How can you tell? It's this speckled cloud that is over the bite here.
00:10That indicates just how bitter the air is.
00:12All of these yellow areas are severe weather warnings for damaging wind gusts
00:16right across the southeast, extending well inland.
00:19What are we going to feel from this?
00:21None of the clouds, none of the rain, but yes, there will be a bite in the wind.
00:25Why? Here is thickness.
00:27I just wanted to show you this to show just how cold the air is.
00:30How low the snow is going to fall.
00:32At least 900 metres in Victoria, at least 600 metres in Tasmania.
00:36Look how far up the New South Wales ranges.
00:39The snow is likely to go as far as the wet weather does anyway.
00:42So this just shows us how cold the air is and how far north that is extending as we go into Saturday.
00:48So we're not going to feel anything in terms of cloud or wet weather,
00:52but we are going to feel it in the bite, in the wind.
00:54Here we have Friday, the mess of wet weather that is across the southeast.
00:58I've kept these thickness lines on so you can see what's happening in the upper atmosphere
01:01because that will show us what's happening in the days to come.
01:04So here we have Friday, nothing for us in through here and the cold air is still back here.
01:08Heading into Saturday, that cold air is through.
01:11We'll feel that in the air bite in the wind, but no wet weather, hardly any cloud.
01:15Heading into Sunday, we're going to start to see a little bit of activity on the coast there
01:19because the next high is coming through here.
01:20So our winds start to go onshore and we're starting to see a trough developing here
01:24thanks to all of that cold air mass in the upper atmosphere.
01:28So Monday is the day for us.
01:30It's not big.
01:31It's not widespread.
01:32It's in the southeast corner here, mainly up around these areas here,
01:35and it's not much as it moves through.
01:37Heading now into Tuesday, hardly anything left.
01:40Wednesday, hardly anything.
01:42What's the next day?
01:43Thursday.
01:43Here's the next one starting to come across, but we're really not seeing much from that.
01:47But perhaps, potentially, this is a full week away, we might see something in the west brewing in a week's time.
01:54Okay, so in terms of totals, that's in a week's time.
01:57This is what we're looking at from Monday just into Tuesday there, so not much, 5 to 10 millimetres at best.
02:03All of the big falls are still to come across the southeast.
02:06So what does that mean for Brisbane?
02:08Here we have sunshine today, 25.
02:10The temperature dips tomorrow, 21.
02:12But I want to point out this dew point.
02:14As soon as that bottoms out, so down around 3, 2, minus 4.
02:19In summer, we're up around 22, 23.
02:21In winter, we're up around the 15, 16 mark.
02:24So we're really going to feel that because there's no more moisture in the air.
02:27There's nothing to keep us warm.
02:29So, yes, the sun is shining, but that wind gusting 43 k's an hour from the west to southwest,
02:35yeah, we're going to feel that.
02:36So on Saturday, yes, a top of 21, but that'll feel more like, here's our feels-like temperature,
02:42around the low to mid-team.
02:44So watch out for that as that comes through.
02:46All right, into Sunday, back up again, 23.
02:49Here's our wet weather coming in on Monday.
02:51Possible showers developing, 2 millimetres.
02:53That's pretty much all we're going to see.
02:55And then it clears out on Tuesday.
