00:00Welcome back to TMZ Live. The Backstreet Boys are living at a level they have never been before
00:09in their careers. Who has been at this level before? Ah, you know what? And maybe the magic
00:15of it is simply the venue that they are now playing, The Sphere in Las Vegas. People in
00:20our office, and you've heard people talking about this show, it is extremely successful.
00:26What we discovered, though... Well, we should say it. Let's build this up. All right, here we go.
00:30So, Brendan over here. Brendan, you went to the show, right? It's amazing, yes. Okay, so Brendan
00:36has a source that tells us that they're making a million dollars a show. And that seemed like
00:46an awful lot of money. My recollection is Celine Dion made about half that per show when she
00:53made that. It's a lot of money. Yes. So, we then sought out, sought to verify it. And
00:59we have a real Sphere insider. And turns out that figure is wrong. It's wrong by a lot.
01:07It's wrong by four times. Thing is, it's not four times less. It's four times more. Four
01:15million dollars a show. They gross. The Backstreet Boys gross. Four million dollars a show.
01:24And it's because of merchandise. They have all these packages where you can buy the VIP tickets,
01:28the platinum tickets, the travel packages to fly out to Vegas. The merch. You put up all of that,
01:35yeah. And so, when you put all of it together, and they have 17,000 seats at The Sphere,
01:39when you put all of it together, they spent seven to eight million dollars on the creative.
01:45You know, the video that goes in the screen. Right. But that, they made that back a long time
01:49ago. And they are grossing. Now, they still have to pay costs. But I was told, it's not a huge
01:57percentage. When you say cost, you mean just for the operation of the Sphere? The overhead and
02:01everything they have to pay. The crew and all that. But the idea that they are making more,
02:07even if you account for inflation, they're making more today than they did at the height of their
02:12career. It makes you wonder how many people are calling this, how many artists are calling the
02:15Sphere this morning, being like, hi. Oh, the managers are going like, hey, hey, you know what,
02:18would you guys have an opening? Yeah, we're next. I'm told, no, again, I'm told the Eagles may
02:25actually make more than that. That they actually make more. I mean, that would make sense, though.
02:29Which kind of makes sense, right? Because the Eagles, their fans are of an age where that's what
02:35they're spending their money. Right, right. And the Backstreet Boys fans are certainly,
02:40clearly, obviously, you know, they're spending money on this. But the Eagles have
02:45a much bigger catalog, much longer. Yeah. So the Backstreet Boys have extended the run. I think
02:51they've done around 30. They've extended it seven more. And we're told that they're going to go even
02:57beyond the seven. But the question is, if they go beyond the seven, do they get to renegotiate?
03:01And does it go up at that point? Every time you keep adding shows, you're basically saying,
03:05we want you to keep coming back because we're making money off of you. So couldn't there
03:09people be like, hey, we want to renegotiate? Yeah, you would think that the sphere is losing
03:13leverage every time they ask an artist to extend. And the artist goes, well, I guess. It works in their
03:17favor to say, hey, we want to renegotiate what we're making because you keep asking us back. But there's
03:20also a theory. There's also a theory that if they make money, it means you made money. And they
03:26just have to calculate, are we going to make more off the Backstreet Boys than we would, say,
03:30another act? True. And then they just calculate whichever benefits the sphere the most, right?
03:37Math. Yeah. Math, everybody.
03:39Jamie from Kentucky. Touring can be a huge burden, not just financially, but physically. And they're all
03:44dads and they just want some stability. And so being at the sphere is a huge plus for them because they
03:49get to have a little bit more work-life balance and love, get paid doing what they love.
