00:00Hi everyone just a quick video on how to remove and refit a battery safely so first couple things

00:05make sure your keys out of the ignition make sure all your systems are turned off like your lights

00:09and so on so you're not drawing current from the battery as it sits also if you're using spanners

00:16or anything else made of metal make sure that you don't put them across the two terminals because

00:21in doing so rather than the current going around the car it will go across the spanner and if

00:26you're holding it you'll get full battery current coming through your hand so first of all remove

00:33the brace that's holding the battery in so in this case it's a small brace down here that i've already

00:37loosened in most cars what you'll do is you'll have a bracket coming across here with a 10 millimeter

00:43nut here and a 10 millimeter nut there and a hook that sits underneath inside there so just loosen

00:49those two off evenly and lift the whole setup out so when we come to remove the battery first of all

00:56we want to take the negative off um electrons actually flow from negative to positive not from

01:01positive to negative as most people think so so electrons cannot flow out of this battery we need

01:06to take the negative off first so there's a little uh 10mm nut there so we'd loosen that one off i've

01:11already done it in this case and take this out make sure you tuck it away somewhere where it can't jump

01:16back onto the terminal um because again that is the dangerous uh lead in this case and then obviously do

01:22the same here in this case it's a 13mm nut that i've loosened and then we'll remove that one as well

01:29just walk that off there and tuck that away then i'd remove the battery

01:32and simply put then i'd re-fit all this the opposite way around so first of all i'd put the

01:37positive lead back on uh tighten that up and then just worth mentioning this state with the positive on

01:44negative off there's absolutely no harm you can work on the car completely safe uh there's no danger to

01:49somebody using the the car and working on the car in this in this condition and then the negative

01:54terminal back on again and then nip that one up um okay so pop that onto there and i'd nip up that

02:01little 10mm there and then put the brace back on tighten it down and then you're good to go hope
