00:25even after her US Open run ended with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Spain's Cristina Buxa in the second round
00:31on Thursday, August 28, Manila time. Ayala is set to compete in the Sao Paulo Open in Brazil from
00:36September 8 to 14. This will be Sao Paulo's first WTA tournament in 25 years. The tournament gives
00:43Ayala another chance to build on her impressive year, where she has already made history several
00:47times for the Philippines. In March, she gained global attention by beating Grand Slam champions
00:52Igas Wiatek, Madison Keys, and Jelena Ostapenko to reach the semi-finals of the Miami Open,
00:58becoming the first Filipino to reach the Final Four of a WTA 1000 event. Ayala later became the
01:04first Filipino in the Open era to compete in the main draws of both the French Open in May
01:08and Wimbledon in July, although she exited in the first round of both. Between those events,
01:13she also made history as the first Filipino to reach a WTA final, finishing runner-up to
01:18Australia's Maya Joint at the Eastburn Open.
