00:00Over a hundred protesters gathered outside parliament again on Thursday to push for the
00:08withdrawal of the proposed Urban Renewal Act. They began their march to parliament from Tugu
00:14Nagara in the morning and shouted demands for the bill to be retracted from the second reading.
00:20At the entrance of the parliament building, the crowd was met by a group of lawmakers,
00:24led by opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamza Zainuddin, after a few hours of gathering there.
00:31Hamza said the lawmakers know that people want the law to provide fair compensation that must be
00:36properly handled by a responsible agency. He said vague benefits are being proposed without specifying
00:43who will oversee the process, and that is one of the reasons why the lawmakers do not agree with
00:49the bill. He said the bill also failed to address the needs of the minority who do not want to
00:54redevelop their housing. The protesters also staged a similar rally on Tuesday, where they handed over
01:01their memorandum to Deputy Housing and Local Development Minister Ayman Athira Sabu. Another
01:07group of people also showed their support for the bill on Wednesday, where they handed over their
01:12documents to Housing and Local Development Minister Ngakor Ming. The minister proceeded with the bill for
01:18the second reading, but there were no debates, and voting as the Dewan Rakyat proceeding adjourned on
01:24Thursday and will reconvene in October.
