00:00The recent Nashville school shooting is a harrowing reminder of just how bad gun violence
00:04has become in the U.S., getting worse pretty much every year. But a report by the CDC reveals that
00:09deaths related to guns are now the leading cause of death amongst teens, more than literally
00:14anything else. To reiterate, the numbers aren't just related to accidental deaths. These include
00:19health issues like cancer, but also suffocation and poisoning. These numbers also indicate teen
00:24deaths related to guns have surpassed car accidents, the leading cause of death for kids
00:28aged 1 to 18 for decades. In fact, the CDC reports 19% of all childhood deaths are gun-related,
00:35with 3,600 children dying at the barrel of a firearm in 2021 alone. The recent Nashville
00:40shooting at the Covenant School is the highest-profile case in a while, where three members of staff
00:45and three nine-year-old children were slain. However, according to CNN, it's the 16th school
00:50shooting this year alone. And with regards to mass shootings, or where at least three to four
00:54people were victims of gun violence, the number is even more dramatic. So far, in 2023 alone,
01:00there have been some 130 mass shootings across the U.S. The U.S. ranks second in the world for
01:06most gun deaths with the largest number of guns per capita.
