00:00Let's see what it's like here on our sine waves.
00:04Yeah, nice. That is really impressive.
00:06So, beneath the skin here, you have adaptive dampers,
00:09and we're in the comfort mode at the moment.
00:11And it is literally that. It is very comfortable.
00:13And in and around the city, it feels very compliant and very well sorted.
00:17G'day, I'm Paul. Look what is finally here.
00:21It is the Volkswagen ID.4.
00:23It has been coming to Australia forever, and it has finally arrived.
00:27They've had a lot of complications getting it here,
00:28but it is finally here, and I'm glad.
00:31So, the ID.4 is kind of a competitor to something like a Model Y
00:34in terms of size and price as well.
00:36It's priced at just under $60,000,
00:39so $1,000 more than the Model Y, the updated Model Y.
00:42But importantly, it has around 100km more driving range.
00:46They really have crammed a big old battery in here
00:48that gives you the driving range that you need
00:50without having to spend mega dollars.
00:51So, today we're going to do a detailed review of this.
00:54If you do want to skip ahead to other parts of this review,
00:56you can use the time codes on the screen, or if you're on YouTube.
00:58You can scroll down and use the chapters below.
01:01So, they've launched this, the ID.4, in only one spec here in Australia.
01:05It's called the ID.4 Pro.
01:07There is an all-wheel drive version coming at a later date.
01:09This is just single-motor rear-wheel drive.
01:11There is also the ID.5, which is like a sportier version of this
01:14that is available in GTX trim,
01:16which is like a sporty version of this, effectively.
01:19So, we'll be reviewing that a little bit later on as well.
01:21What does it look like here in terms of design?
01:24So, optional colours, $1,000.
01:26And one of the funny things that I noticed
01:28when we cancelled our Model Y order a little while back,
01:31I noticed that the option pricing for the optional colours has crept up.
01:36So, now the minimum price you can spend on an optional colour on a Model Y is $2,300.
01:41So, if you don't want just the plain colour,
01:44you have to spend $2,300, which is a huge amount of money.
01:47It's like criminal levels of money.
01:50So, when you do add up some of this stuff,
01:51including the additional range,
01:53this actually represents pretty good value for money.
01:55Design-wise, Volkswagen logo up the front here with white on black.
01:58You've got full LED matrix headlights.
02:00So, you've got the good stuff there.
02:02You've got a little bit of aero off to the side there
02:05because electric car.
02:08I'll be curious to see how this is for efficiency as well.
02:10A lot of the other cars in this segment
02:12have kind of gone upmarket in terms of wheel sizes,
02:16low-profile tyres,
02:17and that is affecting the type of range that you can get.
02:20My thought is that with an electric car,
02:21unless it is a sporty one,
02:23you kind of want this set up here.
02:2419-inch yellow wheels, chubby profile tyres,
02:27something that is just going to give you a little bit more mileage
02:29over and above style.
02:30You've got piano black in the centre there
02:32with machined finish on the outside as well.
02:35Wheel arch guards just there.
02:37You've got this sort of silver panel
02:39that runs along the top there.
02:40That matches in with silver roof rails.
02:42Full glass panoramic roof there.
02:45Not a sunroof though, so that doesn't open.
02:47These door handles, they're sort of flush with the body.
02:50And then when you put your hand inside,
02:51you've got a little push button there to release those.
02:55Now, around the back, LED taillights.
02:56But these are cool.
02:57You've got like these 3D blades that sit in there.
03:00They look really cool.
03:01So, the LED light is actually integrated into each of those blades.
03:05You've got a wiper here.
03:06Same sort of Volkswagen logo as the front there with the white text.
03:09And then this sort of diffuser section down the bottom here
03:12with the shark fin aerial up the top.
03:15So, let me know what you're looking at about the design.
03:17Do you think it looks good?
03:18What do you think about the price?
03:19Do you think they could have gone sharper on the price?
03:21Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
03:23So, we're inside the ID.4.
03:25This is what the key looks like.
03:26You've got lock, boot, unlock, and then Volkswagen logo on the back.
03:31It's a proximity sensing key.
03:33So, once you're inside, you basically put your foot on the brake
03:35and it's ready to go.
03:36Or you've got a start-stop button here as well,
03:38just in case you need it.
03:39So, in terms of design, it's also pretty pleasant looking.
03:42Nice big infotainment screen here in the centre.
03:45Thankfully, a screen ahead of the driver as well.
03:46So, you can see all of your critical information there
03:48and it's sort of ready to go.
03:50A gear stick is sort of located here on the steering wheel.
03:53You're able to sort of flick through gears using that.
03:55There is lots of piano black.
03:56So, you've got some around here, around here as well.
03:59The steering wheel has these really annoying capacitive touch buttons,
04:02which they're thankfully phasing out,
04:04but just something you're going to have to deal with
04:06if you end up buying the car.
04:08Storage as well.
04:08I'll run through that shortly,
04:10but I don't know.
04:11It could have been slightly better handled here.
04:13We'll have a look at that in a second.
04:15In terms of your touch points though, love this.
04:18Love a good armrest, especially one that is adjustable.
04:20You can sort of move that up and down where you want it to go.
04:22Just gives you a nice comfy seating position.
04:25What are the touch points like?
04:26I guess we'll use that.
04:27Nice and soft.
04:29Soft on the door as well.
04:30We've got our durometer.
04:31We've tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
04:34If you do want to see how this car compares to others that we've tested before,
04:37look at the link in the description below.
04:40Now, what about build quality?
04:41What is it like?
04:43Feels pretty solid there.
04:45A little feel too bad there.
04:48A little door slam sounds like.
04:49Now, on infotainment, you've got a screen that's just under 13 inches in size.
04:57Very clear, like it is ultra sharp.
05:00So, I love the resolution there.
05:02In terms of the functionality, look, it's fine.
05:05It can be a little bit fiddly.
05:06I was sort of trying to navigate around stuff yesterday,
05:08and it might just need a little bit of time to get used to,
05:11but it was just a little bit fiddly.
05:12There is no inbuilt satellite navigation,
05:14and that can be a little bit annoying because your smartphone mirroring is wired.
05:18I just can't understand how it's wired in this day and age
05:21when wireless smartphone mirroring is a thing,
05:24and if you're not going to have wireless smartphone mirroring,
05:26you've got to at least have satellite navigation there
05:28because if you forget a cable,
05:30you can't use your phone to figure out where you're going.
05:32So, yeah, I don't know.
05:33I just think that could be improved.
05:35In addition to that, Volkswagen, I don't know,
05:37they've had issues with app connectivity here in Australia.
05:40For some reason, we just can't get the same level of app connectivity
05:43you can find with other brands.
05:45So, stuff like remotely unlocking, remotely starting climate,
05:48all of that sort of stuff you can't really do.
05:50It's kind of like a one-way communication style thing here with the application,
05:55which I don't think is really good enough,
05:56and I think if you do want to be up against some of the other competitors
06:00in this segment like Kia, Tesla,
06:02they all have really comprehensive apps that allow you to do everything,
06:05whereas this doesn't seem to have that.
06:06Outside of that, you have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both wired.
06:12So, once it is wired in, it's fine, works well, no dramas,
06:15big full-screen integration,
06:16and importantly, you still have access to the rest of your controls with ease,
06:19including like a shortcut menu at the top here that's customizable as well.
06:23I'll show you what Android Auto looks like.
06:26So, full-screen there as well, pretty straightforward.
06:29In addition to all of that, you have FM and DAB digital radio,
06:34no AM radio, but you can get pretty much all of those AM stations
06:38through online streaming or through digital anyway,
06:41so nothing sort of too crazy there.
06:43You've got these slide things for your climate and volume.
06:47It's going to work fine.
06:48It would just be good to have a knob.
06:49I don't know why everyone's so knob-adverse these days.
06:52Then screen ahead of the driver,
06:53just all your critical functions there,
06:54and really everything it needs to be.
06:56On the safety front, you've got an auto-dimming rear vision mirror.
07:00You've got blind spot monitoring built into the wing mirror.
07:02You've got radar cruise control with a semi-autonomous steering function,
07:06front and rear parking sensors, and a 360 camera.
07:09I'll show you what that looks like.
07:12Make that quiet for a sec.
07:13Quality of that isn't very good.
07:15It's quite sort of grainy,
07:16and even that 360 view isn't really that good.
07:20I do just wonder, you know, in this day and age,
07:24how you just can't have high-quality cameras.
07:27They're just like a cheap off-the-shelf item,
07:29so hopefully that is something they can improve as part of an update,
07:32but that definitely needs to be better.
07:34And this is what the horn sounds like.
07:37So let's talk about practicality,
07:39and we'll start off with your connectivity.
07:41You've got two USB-C ports down here,
07:43one of which you'll need to use for your smartphone mirroring.
07:46There's wireless phone charging down here as well.
07:49No 12-volt outlet up the front here, that is, at the back.
07:52In terms of storage, so I mentioned before that,
07:54I don't know how impressed I am with the amount of storage here.
07:57So you've got these cup holders.
07:59That can come out and give you a little storage slot there if you want,
08:02which is good.
08:03Then you have this centre storage here,
08:05and importantly, it has a cover,
08:08which means you can hide valuables and stuff,
08:11but it's not a huge amount of storage space.
08:13So I think that the packaging here probably isn't that good.
08:16I just don't understand why that is all open.
08:18You could have easily joined that to the floor there
08:20and had quite a deep storage area.
08:22That really doesn't need to be open,
08:24so a bit of a weird one there.
08:25But it does mean that you get these armrests,
08:28which I reckon is a good thing.
08:30Over here, glove box, also very small for some reason.
08:33It only goes halfway across.
08:34There's probably a fuse box or something behind that
08:36that's limiting the size of that,
08:38but it's just a really sort of weird thing to have.
08:41And outside of that, it's all sort of pretty straightforward.
08:43There's nothing else to sort of report on the storage front.
08:46In terms of comfort, you've got dual-zone automatic climate control.
08:49That's controlled through the screen here.
08:51You've got heated steering wheel and heated seats as well.
08:55And then outside of that, you have electric seat adjustments.
08:57You can go forwards, backwards.
08:59Your backrest can go forwards and backwards.
09:01Lift the front of the seat, the back of the seat.
09:03You've got lumbar adjustment as well.
09:05Passenger seat is electrically adjustable too.
09:08On the steering front, offers both tilt and reach adjustments.
09:12And on our reach test, how does this all go?
09:14Easy to reach while you're driving.
09:16So, second row, what's it like?
09:18Knee room, really good.
09:20Tow room, okay, but not amazing.
09:22Sort of a little wedged in there.
09:24Headroom, reasonable as well.
09:26I think if you were taller, though, your head would be touching that roof.
09:30It sort of feels nice and airy back here.
09:31You've got storage for a phone up the top here.
09:34You've got matte pockets as well.
09:35Down here, you've got two USB-C ports, plus air vents,
09:38and a third zone of climate control.
09:41Center armrest here as well with a set of cup holders and a port that goes through to the boot.
09:47It is a little bit scratchy back here, though.
09:49So, they've gone with the world's scratchiest plastic up the top here.
09:54So, it kind of just cheapens the vibe a little bit there, which is unfortunate.
09:57But I'm just going to call this out.
09:58I think this is really cool.
09:59So, basically, this door handle, it's an electronic release.
10:03So, you only need to give it a light pull and it will open.
10:05If you are in a situation where the car, you know, fails or power doesn't work,
10:10you can still emergency open it by pulling it harder and it's got a mechanical release.
10:15There's heaps of electric cars on the market these days that just have a button to release the door,
10:19but there is no manual release.
10:21All the manual release is hidden away somewhere and you'll never be able to find it in the event of an accident
10:25or being unable to get out of the car.
10:27So, it's good to see these guys have just stuck with what works,
10:30which is literally a door handle.
10:32Who would have thought?
10:33All right, window test.
10:34Does it go all the way down?
10:36Let's have a look.
10:37Yes, and it's auto up and down as well.
10:42Now, let's talk about cargo capacity.
10:44So, you've got a power tailgate.
10:47So, just in its sort of standard form here, you've got around 550-ish litres.
10:53You've got storage under the cargo floor as well for cables and other bits and pieces.
10:59And there is a sub-sub floor with other storage.
11:03So, you've got a fair bit of storage there to work with, which is pretty good.
11:07If you do want more space, though, you can drop the second row.
11:11When you drop that out of the way, you're getting around 1,600 litres of space.
11:16So, it's not a bad storage compartment.
11:18Now, let's talk about charging before we go for a drive and the battery as well.
11:23So, 82 kilowatt-hour nominal capacity.
11:25I think usable is just under 80 kilowatt-hours.
11:27It's an NCM battery.
11:29So, it's a battery that contains nickel.
11:30You've got both AC and DC charging.
11:33This is the type of battery you don't necessarily want to charge to 100%.
11:37It's recommended to charge it to around 80% to increase the longevity of the battery.
11:42DC charging can occur at up to 175 kilowatts with an average rate of around 120 kilowatts.
11:49AC charging, on the other hand, three-phase 11 kilowatts, which is pretty decent with a driving range,
11:54official driving range of just over 540 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.
11:59It also has bi-directional charging.
12:01It's not kind of the bi-directional charging you're used to in other cars where you have vehicle-to-load.
12:06This can actually do a vehicle-to-home setup.
12:08So, you can actually integrate a DC charger in here that can charge your entire home.
12:14A lot of people misunderstand with vehicle-to-load.
12:16You can't really just run your home off vehicle-to-load because it doesn't have the right communication protocol with the car
12:22and you typically can't draw enough current.
12:24This, on the other hand, if you are able to draw from DC, it actually has enough current there to run your home
12:29and for it to work forwards and backwards in terms of charging capacity.
12:36Okay, we have just hit the road in the ID.4.
12:39Let's start off with some of these safety systems.
12:41I kind of always talk about this stuff because it tends to not really work.
12:46But I haven't actually had that many issues with this.
12:50It's interesting with a lot of the Chinese brands that we test here that it's constantly a problem.
12:54I've got to switch it all off.
12:55But here, it's actually not that bad.
12:58I'll probably just turn the lane departure system off just because we don't have to adhere to lanes here.
13:03But the rest seems to be pretty good.
13:05So, touch wood. Let's see how it goes.
13:08So, ID.4 Pro, available in one spec at the moment.
13:10And that is just rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor, 210 kilowatts of power, 545 newton metres of torque.
13:19So, pretty healthy numbers.
13:20And as a result of that, you're actually getting a really nice and meaty throttle response there.
13:26Pushes you nicely in the back.
13:27It's not like face-pulling performance stuff.
13:30But for the price that you're paying, it actually feels really nice and punchy there in the mid-range,
13:34which is what you want.
13:35Especially if you've got this loaded with family and stuff you want to be able to overtake.
13:38It really feels very comfortable from behind the wheel.
13:41In terms of economy, it's actually pretty reasonable as well.
13:44So, Volkswagen claims a number of around 16 kilowatt-hours per 100 k's.
13:48I've been averaging less than that, sort of around the 13 or 14 mark.
13:51As we sort of drive around here today, it's crept up to 16, 17.
13:55But that number is still pretty good, given that Model Y is consistently around the 13 or 14 mark.
14:00And it was when we owned it a little while back as a rear-wheel drive vehicle.
14:04And I think that is right where you want to be.
14:07It means that you're getting a good mixture there of range with the bigger battery.
14:11Decent acceleration.
14:12Again, you've got a bigger battery.
14:13Nice, big, chunky electric motor.
14:15So, it is just a really good combo to play with.
14:17Now, one thing I discovered just after we filmed the interior section,
14:21there is no way to schedule charging on this car.
14:24And I find that genuinely bizarre.
14:25And it could be a deal-breaker for some people.
14:28If you have off-peak charge rates, you're going to have to invest in a wall box or a charger
14:33that has the ability to schedule charging.
14:35Most cars can't even think of any cars on the market that don't let you actually schedule charging
14:40for off-peak rates for electricity.
14:42So, it's quite odd that they haven't fitted that to this vehicle.
14:45And that, you know, as far as I can tell, it's not available.
14:48It is available overseas by the look of it, because I've seen videos explaining how to activate it.
14:52But I just cannot find it here.
14:53And Volkswagen has confirmed that it's just not available in the car, which is just odd.
14:57So, hopefully, there's a reason to that.
14:58I don't know what that reason is.
14:59I'm going to chase it up.
15:00And if we do get an update before we publish this, I'll insert it into this part of the video.
15:04Now, let's talk about body control.
15:06We're going to crank the speed up to 130 k's an hour.
15:09It is maximum speed limit in Australia.
15:12Also, the speed you're likely to hit if you're overtaking on a country road.
15:16Let's see what it's like here on our sine waves.
15:20Yeah, nice.
15:21That is really impressive.
15:22So, beneath the skin here, you have adaptive dampers.
15:25And we're in the comfort mode at the moment.
15:27And it is literally that.
15:28It is very comfortable.
15:29And in and around the city, it feels very compliant and very well sorted.
15:33There, over those sine waves, even in comfort mode, there's plenty of body control.
15:37And it just gives you the vibe that, I don't know, this car is from a company that has been making cars for a while.
15:43You know what I mean?
15:44It just feels pleasant to drive.
15:46It feels like any other Volkswagen product, which is a product that really doesn't sort of err on the side of sportiness, unless it's an R model or a GTI, and kind of just is inoffensive.
15:56And that is exactly what this feels like behind the wheel.
15:59We've driven so many cars in this segment now, like previous generation of Model Y.
16:04We're driving the new version of Model Y next week.
16:06But the previous generation, the ride was appalling.
16:08Mustang Mach-E, which I've been spending the last six months with, ride appalling.
16:12So, it really just shows you that these guys have gone to the effort of sorting that out.
16:16We'll see whether that affects performance in terms of handling, because that is probably where it'll fall apart if it is too soft.
16:23But let's wait and see how it goes.
16:24Okay, rough road time.
16:2690km an hour is the speed.
16:29We tackle this dodgy stretch of road on.
16:32It's a shocker.
16:33Corrugations, potholes, you name it.
16:35We've got a condensed sine wave here as well.
16:38Let's see how it goes over this.
16:39This actually feels really quite comfortable.
16:41Yeah, there it is.
16:43That is great.
16:44Now, look, this is the thing, right?
16:45You've got these big profile tyres, really well-tuned suspension.
16:50It's just a really good combo for this type of road.
16:53This is a typical Australian road.
16:55You can go from having good quality roads to this stuff in a bit of a heartbeat.
17:00Okay, let's pop this over to Sport mode.
17:03So, you have Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual instantly.
17:07I could feel the ride firm up there.
17:09Okay, brake throttle response there too.
17:12Let's go for a fang around the track and see what it feels like around the ride and handling track.
17:17Oh, yeah, that brake pedal feel is really not very good at all.
17:21All right, so handling-wise, love that rear-wheel drive feel.
17:33It sort of feels nice and perky from the back there.
17:35You get on the throttle.
17:36It sort of picks up really nicely.
17:38You don't get much wallowing.
17:39It just sort of gets up and moves.
17:41And, you know what, for a spec of this car that isn't the GTX, which is the sportier one, it actually feels really nice and accomplished.
17:48It's got great steering feel.
17:50Just these brakes are really not very good.
17:53The brake's fine once you step on it.
17:55It's just the brake pedal feel that's quite average.
17:58Even these bumps mid-corner, it's dispatching off quite nicely.
18:02Let's see what it's like along the back straight here.
18:04Yeah, I love that rear-wheel drive feel.
18:07It's quite playful.
18:09So you can sort of lean into the throttle as you're sort of ploughing through these corners,
18:13and you can really feel it's quite active at the rear, but still feels quite planted.
18:18So here's the back straight.
18:19Let's see how this goes.
18:21Yeah, nice.
18:22Very good.
18:23Picking up speed beautifully.
18:24But, yeah, this brake pedal, like, standing on it there, it's just, you don't feel anything.
18:30It's really weird.
18:30There's, like, no feel through that pedal.
18:32It's just really spongy.
18:33Then it goes firm, and then you've got to really stand on it a bit.
18:37I mean, the fact that this has rear drum brakes, I think, in 2025 is totally unacceptable.
18:42You can't, I don't know.
18:43It's just, it's a cost-cutting measure, and if the drum brakes are affecting the brake pedal
18:49feel and performance here, then I think it's probably something they need to have a look
18:53at addressing.
18:54If they do the job perfectly fine, no dramas.
18:56I know that EVs use less brakes than a typical internal combustion car, because you are regenning
19:03a lot more.
19:03But when you start getting brake pedal performance, if it is linked to drum brakes, I think it's
19:09something they need to switch out pretty quickly.
19:10Now, in terms of visibility, I can see clearly down the front of the car there, it's a great
19:13seating position, big wing mirrors, and reasonable visibility out the back.
19:17It's a narrow envelope, but not the end of the world.
19:20In terms of road noise, this is probably one of the car's big benefits.
19:24There isn't a huge amount of road noise that comes into the cabin.
19:26Even on course-chip stretches of road, it was fairly quiet and subdued in here, so pretty
19:31impressed with the way they've been able to really level that out.
19:35We put it up against our calibrated sound meter, and this is how it went in terms of
19:39the results.
19:40If you do want to see how this car compares to others that we've tested before, there's
19:44a link in the description below.
19:46Okay, let's test the lane support systems.
19:48We do this at 80Ks or 70Ks an hour, rather, and we'll see how well it holds itself in these
19:53lanes, so easy in the first lane, gradually gets harder as we get to the outermost lane.
19:58Outermost lane has the most banking, and it requires the most amount of torque input from
20:04the car to the steering to hold it there, so first lane's all good.
20:07We'll jump over to the next lane.
20:11Okay, wait for that to go green.
20:14There we go, so it's kind of straddling that lane.
20:18Yeah, it's moving itself into the center there.
20:20It's working pretty well.
20:22That's all good.
20:23All right, let's try the outermost lane.
20:25We'll see how it goes up here.
20:29There it is.
20:30Beautiful.
20:32Holding itself bang in the center of that, so it veers towards that.
20:45It's going to smash into that, I think.
20:46Okay, so yeah, it's holding itself there, but it keeps steering itself to the guardrail,
20:55and I fear that it's going to hit the guardrail, so yeah, don't love that.
21:00Haven't had that experience in any other cars, so I don't know whether that's just the angle
21:05that it's on or something, but yeah, it didn't love that.
21:08So yeah, it's weird.
21:09It was holding itself fine there to start with, and then it just didn't like it.
21:12So just a weird scenario, but it works fine in those first two lanes.
21:16And on the way here today, it actually worked pretty well in terms of holding itself within
21:19the lane while we were driving.
21:20Now, let's do a little bit of performance testing.
21:23So we're going to go zero all the way through to 120, so we can see what the 80 to 120 overtaking
21:29time is like as well.
21:31It's in sport mode at the moment.
21:32I'll maybe just put stability control into ESC sport.
21:37There is no way to switch it off entirely, unfortunately.
21:40I'll brake boost just to see if it has launch control.
21:42It sort of squats down a bit there, so here we go.
21:50All right, building up speed there.
21:55I think the official time was a little under seven seconds.
21:58There's 100 and 120.
22:01All right, let's see how that feels.
22:03So zero to 100, 6.86 seconds, so slightly off the claim time, and then 80 to 120 in 3.88
22:13seconds.
22:13That number's actually pretty good.
22:14Once it gets up and moves, you know, one of the things they need to manage with these cars
22:19with that much power and torque, you need to really taper that torque input from low speeds.
22:24I think if they were to just unleash it all at once, it would probably be a bit unruly
22:28in the wet, but that 80 to 120 time is really quite good.
22:31It just means that if you are overtaking and stuff like that, it's going to feel quite brisk.
22:36You know, we're going to give that one more shot.
22:37I just want to try something else here when it comes to launching it.
22:40So I'm just going to kind of stand on the throttle instead of brake boosting.
22:44So here we go.
22:45It felt a bit stronger off the line there, so we'll see if that helps us get closer to
22:50their claim time.
22:52100 and 120.
22:56All right, let's have a little look.
22:58Yeah, for some reason when I brake boosted, it really was quite slow off the line, but
23:01that felt much better.
23:03So that time around, 0 to 100, 6.4 seconds.
23:05There you go.
23:06So just standing on it makes all the difference.
23:08All right, let's see what the brake and tire package is like.
23:10I'm going to do a stop from 100 here.
23:14Here we go.
23:19I'm trying to squeeze my stomach out of me.
23:23That seatbelt thing is vicious.
23:26All righty, let's see how that went.
23:28So 100 to 0, 2.93 seconds, 37.8 metres, which is a really good stopping time.
23:33Anything between 35 and 40 is good.
23:36And it also shows you that when you go for maximum pedal pressure, you're getting a really
23:40good stopping distance.
23:41It's just that brake pedal feel just really, really isn't very awe-inspiring when you're
23:46out on the road trying to drive a bit faster.
23:48All righty, so how fast does it go in reverse?
23:51Let's find out.
23:52Here we go.
23:55All right, that is 32 kilometres an hour.
23:59Okay, so Volkswagen ID.4.
24:02Look, I think that this thing is inoffensive.
24:04It's a Volkswagen.
24:06You know what I mean?
24:06Like, you get inside it and it feels just like any other Volkswagen.
24:09You drive it and it feels like any other Volkswagen.
24:12And I think, to me, that is what a lot of people want from an EV.
24:14They don't necessarily want a science project.
24:16They just want something that looks normal and feels like other stuff that they've driven
24:19before.
24:20It's well-priced.
24:21So I think from that point of view, really good.
24:23Downsides, though.
24:24Brake pedal feel, don't like it at all.
24:26I also don't like the fact that you can't schedule charging.
24:28For a lot of people that want to do off-peak charging, there just appears to be no way
24:32to do it inside the car, which I think is disappointing.
24:34And also the phone app.
24:35I just don't think they've put enough effort into that for the Australian market to match
24:38some of the competitors in this segment.
24:40So I think there are things you have to weigh up.
24:42But on the balance of it, it is a really good car.
24:44And I'm impressed that it is finally here in Australia.
24:46So let me know what you reckon in the comments section below.
24:49Have you had a drive for this?
24:50What do you reckon?
24:51I'm keen for your feedback.
