00:00Parents who have endured unimaginable tragedy have reached a milestone in their fight for
00:08change.
00:09We're really proud of Daniel and it's his legacy to keep kids safe.
00:12The 2003 murder of 13-year-old Daniel Morecambe on the Sunshine Coast is etched into Queenslanders
00:18memory.
00:19Bruce and Denise watched on as laws in his name were brought to state parliament.
00:23The identities of child sex offenders would be exposed in a three-tiered public registry.
00:29We are choosing parents over pedophiles.
00:32We are arming Queenslanders with the facts knowing that they'll do the right thing.
00:37Those who share information to incite violence or harassment could face up to ten years in
00:42jail.
00:43This has been mirrored on what they've done in other states like Western Australia and I'm
00:46happy to report that in other states the number or instances of vigilantism has been low.
00:53A public website will list photos and personal details of offenders who have breached reporting
00:58obligations or whose whereabouts is unknown.
01:01This is really about a protective and preventative measure.
01:04People can apply to see photos of serious offenders in their local area.
01:08We see it as a great tool for parents, carers and the community.
01:11Parents and guardians can apply to see if someone having regular unsupervised contact with their
01:16child is a reportable offender.
01:18This is not the be all and end all.
01:19We still need to be very much on the front foot because there are monsters that have never
01:24been convicted in court.
01:26The registry is expected to be live by the end of the year.
01:30There's some ambiguity around how much information can be shared around the community.
01:35The government warning against social media posts.
01:38We are discouraging people from doing that.
