00:00You must drive out these demons from our land!
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at some of the most satisfying acts of vengeance throughout history.
00:10He approaches Lupion, threatening to stab him, and tells him the truth about the death of Shobar, Solahi, and the succession of events that had led to his dishonor.
00:23Hugh Glass. You may remember seeing the dramatized version of this story in The Revenant.
00:28The real story behind Hugh Glass's survival is just as interesting.
00:35In 1823, he joined an expedition. Within months, he was viciously attacked by a bear.
00:41Soon afterwards, his team left him to die.
00:44Two men, John Fitzgerald and Bridges, were told to stay until he passed.
00:49Both men robbed him and fled, but Hugh persisted.
00:53He dragged his mutilated body to safety, with just one thought on his mind… revenge.
01:03He planned to kill Fitzgerald, but the other man's enlistment in the army stopped him.
01:08I need a horse and a gun.
01:10No. You need rest and something to eat. I'm going after him.
01:13No. You'll never find him without me.
01:17Glass ended up warning him that his discharge would also signal his death, ultimately forcing him to spend the rest of his life in fear.
01:25Mal Brigte of Moray.
01:27Living amongst Vikings was no picnic, a lesson Mal Brigte learned in the 9th century.
01:32Reportedly, he and his army were challenged to a battle by Sigurd the Mighty, only to be blindsided by the latter bringing twice the men.
01:40They fought valiantly, but it was all in vain.
01:42Eventually, Sigurd took Mal's head as a trophy.
01:46It was then that some near-instantaneous karma struck.
01:49He rode off with his conquest's head attached to his saddle, but the dead man's teeth ended up scratching him.
01:56It quickly became infected, and he died shortly afterward of sepsis.
02:00While Brigte lost his life, he still got the last laugh.
02:04Wyatt Earp.
02:05He ruled the West with an iron fist even before he was pushed over the edge.
02:09Forget it.
02:10I'm retired.
02:11Excuse me?
02:12I said forget it.
02:13I don't want the job, and that's final.
02:15I don't think you understand.
02:16Oh, you don't understand, Marshall.
02:18I did my duty.
02:20Now I'd like to get on with my life.
02:22Wyatt Earp's family of officers were in a bitter feud with the Cochise County Cowboys.
02:27In 1881, their hate escalated into a violent gunfight that left multiple outlaws dead.
02:32The losing side was furious when the lawmen were cleared legally, leading them to shooting both Virgil and Morgan Earp.
02:39The latter died, and Wyatt snapped.
02:42You called down the thunder, well now you've got it.
02:45He and his posse went on a vicious spree, slaying those named as suspects.
02:50It was an act riddled with vigilantism.
02:52Though calls were made for him to be tried, nothing came to fruition.
02:56Decades later, in 1927, he doubled down, saying that if he could, he would do it all over again.
03:03What would you want?
03:05Just to live a normal life.
03:08There's no normal life, Wyatt.
03:11There's just life.
03:13To get on with it.
03:16I don't know how.
03:17Jeanne Desclessons
03:19Being a nobleman's wife offered her a life of prosperity.
03:22Avenging said husband allowed her to leave a mark on history.
03:25Olivier IV and Jeanne Desclessons both sided with the French during the Breton War of Secession.
03:31Despite that, Olivier was accused of treason, found guilty, and executed in 1343.
03:37Jeanne jumped into action.
03:39She sold their land and trained hundreds of men before attacking nearby troops.
03:44She then took to the high seas, where she and her crew ambushed trade ships and killed nearly everyone aboard.
03:51Even her ship being destroyed couldn't bring down the Lioness of Brittany.
03:55She remained a pirate for over a decade afterward, serving as a constant reminder to the French government of their own misdeeds.
04:02Pistol Pete
04:03Most know him as a mascot for Oklahoma State University, and have no idea of his dark past.
04:09Face behind America's brightest orange.
04:12He's very much more than just a mascot. He's kind of a symbol and an icon for the university.
04:17During his youth, Frank Pistol Pete Eaton's dad was killed by a group of six men known as the Regulators.
04:23Frank was told by a family friend that it was up to him to avenge his father, which he took to heart.
04:28He says, may an old man's curse rest on you the longest day you live if you don't find and shoot the man that murdered your father.
04:37He began learning how to shoot that same year, and soon began his mission.
04:41As a teenager, he slayed five of his father's murderers, with the one outlier having been shot before Frank could reach him.
04:48At the cusp of adulthood, he'd completed his task, able to live a peaceful life afterwards.
04:53He says there he'd wander around and shake hands with people, tell stories, do his quick draw, almost anything to be the center of attention.
05:01Usha Narayani
05:02Aku Yadov was a gang leader in India who carried out countless crimes.
05:06Dozens of women fell victim to him in particular.
05:09One survivor, Usha Narayani, reported him.
05:12Yadov had her home surrounded, threatening to torture and kill her.
05:15She scared them away, simultaneously giving her community strength.
05:19They burned his home down, and he had himself arrested for his own protection.
05:23On August 13th, 2004, hundreds of women gathered at his bail hearing.
05:28He mocked one of his victims, and they all descended upon him.
05:32He was stabbed by each crowd member at least once, ensuring he died on the spot.
05:37Narayani was charged with murder despite not being involved.
05:40But a similarly sized group supported her, leading to her acquittal.
05:44Francois-Pierre Picot, three Frenchmen, Choubar, Solary, and Lupin, were so envious of their friends' engagement to a rich woman that they ruined his life.
05:55Under the guise of a joke, Francois Picot was betrayed by his friends Lupion, Choubar, and Solary, just before he was to wed Marguerite.
06:03They lied to authorities, and soon, shoemaker Pierre Picot found himself behind bars.
06:09He only found out why after two years there, planting the seeds for his revenge.
06:14Following his release, he moved back to Paris, before spending a decade planning his vengeance.
06:19Picot was liberated at the end of Napoleon's reign with the restoration of the monarchy.
06:24He goes back to Paris and changes his identity.
06:27His name is now Joseph Luchet, and Joseph Luchet arrives in Paris and decides to take his revenge.
06:33He killed Choubar and Solary quickly, but saved the worst for Lupin, who'd married his previous fiancée.
06:40Pierre played a role in his daughter's death, burned down his restaurant, and framed his son for murder before finally stabbing Lupin.
06:48This is his final act of vengeance. Lupin learns that Picot is the source of every bad thing to have happened to him.
06:55He finally understands that this server is none other than Picot.
06:59Picot died soon after, leaving behind a confession so wild it's believed to have inspired the Count of Monte Cristo, Boudica.
07:07When King Prosuticus died and made his daughters his heirs, he could never have guessed what horrors would await his family.
07:14The Roman Empire disagreed with his decision, laying siege. Queen Boudica was whipped, and her children assaulted.
07:31Afterwards, she was so enraged by what had befallen them that she formed a rebellion against Rome.
07:37She and her army burned Cameludonum, Londinium, and Verilamium to the ground.
07:43Boudica's rebellion was an extremely serious revolution in Britain.
07:48She had burned the three largest towns in Rome and Britain, including the capital.
07:53In the process, tens of thousands died.
07:56Some historians even recorded that noblewomen in these areas were skewered and displayed,
08:01and that Boudica had survivors killed rather than taken prisoner.
08:04A final battle waged between the two armies, and when it seemed she had lost,
08:08the queen reportedly took her own life before the Romans could do it first.
08:13Boudica's legacy is that of bravery and of standing up to oppression to secure one's freedom.
08:2147 Ronin In 1701, Lord Asano Naganori made an enemy out of Kira Yoshinaka, a powerful man within the government.
08:30Two personalities are immediately on a collision course that will have devastating consequences.
08:37After being inspired by him, Asano attacked and mildly injured the latter.
08:42As such, he was sentenced to take his own life.
08:45This left his samurai without a leader, making all 47 of them a band of Ronin.
08:50In 1703, they avenged Asano.
08:53They attacked Kira's home in two groups, killing 16 of his men.
09:11When they finally found the official, they offered him a chance to end his life the way Asano did.
09:16When he refused, they swiftly beheaded him.
09:19Most of the Ronin were ordered to commit seppuku honorably as a result.
09:23The Ronin have restored the honor of their master and walked the way of the true samurai,
09:29as no one has for nearly a hundred years.
09:33They have no place in the realm of the living and are resigned to meet Asano in death.
09:39Since then, their burial grounds have become a place of prayer.

09:58Saint Olga of Kiev.
10:00They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
10:03That quote perfectly encapsulates Saint Olga of Kiev's actions after the execution of her husband Igor.
10:09The Drevlian tribe had slain him following a tribute dispute.
10:14The offenders arranged a marriage between her and her husband's killer.
10:18To which she agreed.
10:20Drevlians that arrived were placed in a deep hole, then buried alive.
10:24She invited two more groups of ambassadors, burning one and having her followers attack the other.
10:30However, her finishing move was securing sparrows to the tribe's homes.
10:34She had sulfur attached to the birds, lighting it before sending them back to their original.
10:39The settlement burned.
10:40Only then did Olga finally end her reign of vengeance.
