00:00Tariff threats, not unusual. What's happening now?
00:05Well, it's a very Trump rhetoric again, but these foreign digital taxes that are in place
00:09and the regulations that go along with them as well,
00:11he thinks are unfairly targeting companies that are operating out of the US.
00:15So we're talking Google, Meta, Amazon, Apple, the big hitters here.
00:18And he says that these rules that are in place are actually what's hurting American firms
00:22and Chinese tech companies are getting a lighter deal as a direct result of that.
00:27So he's saying the amount of money, even the UK's digital tax, digital service tax,
00:31that's getting about 800 million British pounds a year from global tech firms.
00:37So similar of these exist in France and in Italy and Spain as well.
00:40So he's saying, right, listen up, EU, UK, roll back your measures.
00:45And he's got enough recent data to say that this is the right thing to do.
00:49They've all got deals with Washington now, we know this.
00:51He's kind of got the upper hand here.
00:53It is one of these classic Trump tough talks on tariffs to try and get some leverage in there as well
00:58in these wider trade negotiations.
01:00But he's saying because they're not fair, then they need to be lessened.
