00:00In a quiet old town, with fields far and wide, lived a tired donkey with no strength to hide.
00:18He worked for his master year after year, but his back grew weak, his end seemed near.
00:27My master is cruel, my work never ends, I'll leave this life and search for new friends.
00:38I'll go to Bremen, I'll play a sweet song, I'll be a musician where I belong.
00:47On the dusty road, as he trotted along, he heard a sad bark, not cheerful or strong.
00:57A hunting dog sat, with eyes full of tears, too old to chase hares after many long years.
01:06My master wants me gone, I'm too slow to run. What use is a dog who can't hunt for fun?
01:15Come join me. Dear friend, let's both chase a plan, to Bremen we'll travel, to start a new band.
01:26The donkey and dog walked further that day, when a thin, weary cat crossed their way, her whiskers drooped, her eyes looked dim, her meow was weak, her future grim.
01:43I'm old and tired, I can't chase a mouse. My lady is cruel, should throw me from the house.
01:54Don't worry, dear cat, come travel with me, in Bremen we'll sing, so happy and free.
02:04Yes, join our band, let's play as one. Our new life together has just begun.
02:11Further along, near a farmhouse gate, a rooster crowed, warning of fate.
02:19But no one listened, his cries were ignored. His owner planned suppo, what a reward.
02:27Tomorrow's my end, in a pot I'll be stewed, I crow at the dawn, it's not valued food.
02:36Not stew, dear rooster, but music instead, come sing with us, lift your proud head.
02:47To Bremen, we'll go, a band will become, four voices together, four hearts beating drum.
02:55So onward they marched, the four side by side. Their spirits grew strong, their hopes opened wide.
03:06But as the night fell, they came to a wood, where a robber's house in the shadows stood.
03:15I see a house, with candles so bright, perhaps we can rest there tonight.
03:22I smell roasted meat, oh what a delight.
03:27A nook and a ball, oh what a sight.
03:31Then let's be clever, and take it by song, we'll frighten the robbers, and chase them along.
03:38They stacked in a line, one on another, donkey at bottom, then dog, then cat, rooster further.
03:49They braced themselves, ready to shout, then sang so loudly, the robbers rushed out.
03:59Monsters!
04:00They cried, and off they ran fast, through the dark forest, escaping at last.
04:11The house now was theirs, so cozy and warm, with food on the table and beds to keep them calm.
04:20The donkey stretched out, the dog by the fire, the cat on a cushion, the rooster sang higher.
04:28And though they never reached Bremen that day, they found a new home in their own special way.
04:37They lived there together, happy and strong, singing and laughing all the day long.
04:44And always remember, with teamwork and friendship, even the weakest can become strong.
