00:01Police emergency.
00:03Every night in Britain.
00:05Okay, we'll get police making to you as a grade one emergency.
00:08Officers of the law.
00:10Yeah, that's noted, we're just round the corner.
00:12Clock on.
00:13You'll have to put the stop on tonight.
00:15I lock the door! I lock the door now!
00:17To keep the peace.
00:19That's the light!
00:20And protect us.
00:21Sorry!
00:22I need to get you home safe.
00:23While we sleep.
00:25Police officer, Caesar! Stay with me now!
00:27You're under a referee because I actually uploaded an article.
00:29I love the night shift.
00:31It's my favourite shift.
00:32I'm not having now!
00:33Oi!
00:34Sometimes it can just go mental for no reason.
00:36Hey!
00:37Can you get a sack of cups on here?
00:38Move, move, move!
00:39Hey, hey, hey!
00:40Down on the ground!
00:42We filmed with Gloucestershire Constabulary.
00:45Is Gloucestershire a teaser?
00:47Shall we get your hands down?
00:48Following their 999 response team.
00:51Gloucester Tanger 59.
00:52Gloucester Tanger 59.
00:53Mate! Move on!
00:55Stay where you are!
00:56And specialist units.
00:58Thank God, too.
00:59There's more fighting going on.
01:00I'm winning!
01:01Can we have an ambush, I think?
01:04To show the highs.
01:06Snakes.
01:07Shall we go?
01:08Yeah, let's go.
01:09And the lows.
01:10Got any weapons on you or anything like that?
01:11Weapons?
01:12It's got to be Willy.
01:13I'm so sorry, my darling.
01:15Not darling.
01:16Of the night shift.
01:17The night shift is really where the danger's at.
01:20It's always lurking around the corner somewhere.
01:22You never know when it's going to come and jump out on you.
01:24That escalated quickly, didn't it?
01:25It's the start of another summer night shift for Rhodes Policing Officer Sergeant Gladwin.
01:43I've always lived in Gloucester, never left the county, so I feel it's home and I feel like it's a place I want to protect and I just want to do the best for the area I live.
01:55His first job has taken him out to the Gloucestershire countryside.
02:00I'm trained to the highest level possible within traffic, being an advanced TPAC driver.
02:05That gives me the skills to be able to negotiate most situations you come across.
02:09It's such a varied situation between like city driving and rural driving.
02:14But the rural tranquility is shattered by an oncoming driver.
02:20It's gone for it.
02:26It's probably gone Bradley.
02:29The vehicle just overtaken right, straight towards us.
02:33We had to brake to avoid it.
02:36Now he's just literally clawed it.
02:39Sergeant Gladwin is trying to catch up with the car that almost caused a head-on collision.
02:44So we're just going to find the car.
02:48He's hidden.
02:50But it appears the driver hasn't hidden.
02:53Yeah, he's called in there.
02:56It was incredibly dangerous.
02:58It could have easily been a fatal or a serious injury collision.
03:02It's the sort of thing we're trying to avoid.
03:04He indicates for the driver to pull into a farm track.
03:09You should be.
03:10Yeah, honestly.
03:11How do you carry kids in here?
03:12Sorry.
03:13I was literally in a rush to get back.
03:16A rush where you could be the one who's dead as a result of that.
03:31We could be the one to .
03:33As you should be.
03:34Because that was dangerous, wasn't it?
03:35It was, yeah.
03:36Like I've had to almost do an emergency stop then to avoid you.
03:39Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to...
03:41Yeah, I'm so sorry.
03:42It's a 40 mile an hour limit in that bit there.
03:46And you were probably doing considerably more than that, weren't you?
03:49Well, I...
03:50Yeah.
03:51Because I was trying to get around the first one and then the second one was...
03:54Being in a rush.
03:55Oh.
03:56If you're not going to make it home, look at what it's done to you.
03:59It's so dreadful.
04:00So sorry.
04:01Yeah.
04:02Right, have you got your licence on here?
04:03I haven't.
04:04He realised he'd made a silly error.
04:05He said he was rushing to get home.
04:08It was the wrong thing to do and just apologised and accepted his error.
04:14I've stayed up to you.
04:16Can you do a DM for me, please?
04:18Yes.
04:19Have you got any points at the moment?
04:21I'm sorry.
04:22In turn 255, we've spoken to a lot of people down there.
04:26What, two different lots of speeding, is it?
04:30It's not good, is it?
04:32No idea.
04:33Because this is...
04:35More than just a speeding offence.
04:38This is at least a due care, if not a dangerous drive.
04:42Okay, good.
04:44I've got...
04:46Two points.
04:49Two?
04:50Yes, yes.
04:51Yeah, no, thank you.
04:52You've got two points left at the moment, apparently.
04:55That means the driver has four more points than he remembers and risks losing his licence.
05:01What I'm going to do is I'm going to give you a ticket for driving without due care and recommend you go on a driver improvement course.
05:09No, I've never been offered one in my life because of Covid.
05:12No, well...
05:13Yeah, well, I'm going to recommend that because I think that probably will do you better than anything to try and slow you down.
05:18Yeah.
05:19Because you need to realise the consequences of driving in such a manner, especially if you're carrying kids in the car.
05:25Like, yes, you haven't got any in there now, but what's to say you don't drive like that when you have got your kids with you?
05:33It is a lenient way of dealing with it.
05:35But that was the decision I made because I felt that would have far more of an impact on someone than getting six points or losing a licence for six months.
05:44Sometimes education is far more impactive and the way he was being, he accepted it was an error.
05:50It was what I can only call a moment of madness.
05:53Right, if I can get you to sign in this yellow box, I'm going to print everything off and I'll explain everything to you.
05:58For this driver, it could be his lucky night.
06:01You'll get a letter through the post within the next 14 days.
06:04As long as you comply with that letter, that will be the end of the matter.
06:07Alright?
06:08It should be to recommend the course, hopefully.
06:10If it's not, then it would be six points.
06:12And I'm fine.
06:13Now, hopefully it'll just be the course because I'll recommend the course, but it's not my decision in the end of the day.
06:17Do you understand everything?
06:18Yeah, completely.
06:19There you go.
06:20Slow it down.
06:21Sorry.
06:22Alright, because next time it could be absolutely worse.
06:34Hopefully he's learnt a lesson from this tonight.
06:36I know this road very well, I drive it every day.
06:39So, I know that's not an overtaking place.
06:43Sometimes it's either wrong place, right time, or right place, wrong time.
06:48Who knows?
06:49Do you want any traffic on this channel, please, can make to a stolen vehicle?
06:50That's received.
06:51If you want any traffic on this channel, please, can make to a stolen vehicle.
07:04That's received.
07:05On the outskirts of Cheltenham town centre, PC Merchant is on the hunt for a man suspected of driving a stolen car.
07:09There was a vehicle that failed stop for officers the night before.
07:10The registration was gained by that officer.
07:11The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:12Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:13Let's see where it goes.
07:14Let's see where it goes.
07:15Let's see where it goes.
07:16On the outskirts of Cheltenham Town Centre, PC Merchant is on the hunt for a man suspected
07:25of driving a stolen car.
07:27There was a vehicle that failed stop for officers the night before.
07:30The registration was gained by that officer.
07:32The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:36Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:43Trained in pursuit driving, PC Merchant is trying to get ahead of the car to assist with
07:48the stop.
07:49I didn't have a chance to do any pre-emptive tactics like get a stinger out, so unfortunately
07:54it was, let's see if it'll stop.
07:56Oh, there he is, yeah, he's coming up.
08:03When that vehicle came down the road, I knew full well this vehicle was not going to stop.
08:08We've gone through a light and then we've made off.
08:12We've turned on to a sort of windy road, not a great road to drive at speed on.
08:18Luckily, no more vehicles were coming.
08:22Heading out of Cheltenham, PC Merchant is thinking ahead.
08:25He knows the roads.
08:27The suspect does not.
08:29As I'm driving along, I'm constantly reassessing the risk level.
08:33We've gone up a road closed, and I know that road's closed, and I know that they're doing
08:38bridge repairs.
08:39Aware of the risk, he pulls back.
08:42But the driver has other ideas.
08:48He then decides to do a U-turn, and I could see that there were two occupants of that vehicle.
08:54But there are more dangers ahead, as the cars approach a turning.
08:57The last minute, he thinks he's going to take a left-hand turn, but we're doing 60 miles
09:04an hour, it's not going to end well.
09:20He's just flown through the air, and I'm thinking, I hope you're wearing a seatbelt, for starters.
09:32Fearing the worst, PC Merchant is surprised to see the passenger step out of the car, unharmed.
09:51Lay on the floor!
09:53Lay on the floor!
09:54It was clear at that stage, someone had run from the driver's seat, because the door was
09:59open.
10:00Let's get out of 5-9, can you shut things in traffic, please?
10:05Dog handler's arrived, and got a really strong sense.
10:09Help me lift this fence up, he's gone in here.
10:12No, under, lift the fence up.
10:14On foot, PC Merchant takes up the chase, alongside PC Council.
10:19Under, under, under.
10:21Good girl.
10:22Hold the line, hold the line.
10:23And police dog, Harren.
10:25Let's get out of 5-9, I need the drone up here.
10:30Also joining the search, is another specialist unit, launching a drone, with a heat-seeking camera.
10:36Officer with a drone's got a person in the field towards Cheltenham.
10:43It's also difficult to work out which field it is, at the moment.
10:46Standby.
10:47I can lift her over, behind her legs.
10:50We're going through gates, we're going through fields.
10:53And between the dog and the drone, they've located a figure, in a field, walking around.
11:02No response to that.
11:03If you can see the drone, they're going to go directly over the person now.
11:12It's up there.
11:13Go on.
11:14Half corner of that field, the dog's tracking.
11:17You've got a heat-sort.
11:18If you get them in the direction, then you'll go into the two.
11:27Where is it?
11:28Where's the drone?
11:30You've got energy meters.
11:31On the right hand side to where the dog is.
11:33He's led down, arms out to the side.
11:36Keep piping the games up.
11:38Keep going, keep going, keep going.
11:41Come out now!
11:43Police officer of the dog, you walk back through!
11:46You crawl back through!
11:47I'm watching the hedge.
11:48If you can see a gap there.
11:49You walk back through there!
11:53No, come through the hedge!
11:55Where are my torches?
11:56What are you doing at the door?
11:58Come steady, but don't do anything silly.
12:01I'm not, boss.
12:02I'm not working.
12:03It's combined with officers.
12:05It's currently going through the hedge.
12:06What are you doing at the door?
12:08What are you doing at the door?
12:10What are you doing at the door?
12:12What are you doing at the door?
12:14What are you doing at the door?
12:15What are you doing at the door?
12:16What are you doing at the door?
12:18A very good result for us.
12:19No one's injured.
12:21We've got a stolen vehicle back.
12:23And we've also got someone detained
12:26who shouldn't be on our roads.
12:28Good girl.
12:29Good girl.
12:30Good girl.
12:42The 100% Affiliate
12:44The 15 borers
12:45all perquent
12:57He just wanted to get away.
12:58Whether it was a game for him I don't know.
13:00Just stop, speak to officers, take it on the chin.
13:04Done.
13:05He's been sitting in my seat.
13:19Crewed together on the midnight shift are PC Foxall and Special Constable Webber.
13:25I come in on a couple of weekends a month and basically just help where I can and go
13:33out with regular officers and do exactly the same thing.
13:40It's been absolutely mental.
13:44It was okay last night, it wasn't too bad.
13:50The night is still young.
13:53I'm definitely standing until he has now.
14:00Police emergency.
14:03There's a fire.
14:05Three fires.
14:08So we just go into Johnworth where we've had a report of three vehicles on fire.
14:13It's a bit strange, we've had quite a few reports in the exact same area over the last couple
14:18of days of vehicles being done over with their tyres getting slashed and things being broken.
14:23So it could be the case, it could be the same suspect and they've increased their behaviour
14:28and now they've gone to setting a light to things which is a massive concern.
14:33It's a full moon tonight so that could explain it as well.
14:36Yeah.
14:37There's fire.
14:38Hi guys.
14:39Yeah.
14:40No, no, no.
14:41Brother.
14:42Three, five, six, six.
14:43That's a proper job isn't it?
14:44But there were three cars on fire.
14:45Fire were in attendance and battling the blazes as they were and it's one of the first instances
14:49where I get to a job and I think this is serious.
14:50You know, somebody could have been dead at the end of this.
14:53Got suspected arson.
14:54Absolutely, yeah.
14:55Another thing is that the fuel tank and one of the car is completely off so they're going
14:59to show up with the fuel tank so when we came in here it was...
15:02Yeah.
15:03Yeah.
15:04Yeah.
15:05Yeah.
15:06Yeah.
15:07Yeah.
15:08Yeah.
15:09Yeah.
15:10Yeah.
15:11Yeah.
15:12Yeah.
15:13Yeah.
15:14Yeah.
15:15Yeah.
15:16Yeah.
15:17We've go to the fuel tank so when we came in well alive.
15:20My initial response from the fire and rescue team one of the witnesses said they could
15:24see a petrol cam on one of the vehicles that were ablaze was opened so it's quite clear
15:29that someone has committed arson here.
15:31Okay.
15:32Perfect.
15:33Looks like there's two cars here.
15:34One down here.
15:36It's still the same property as well so it looks like it's targeted.
15:38Oh...
15:39Okay.
15:40Yeah.
15:41Okay.
15:42Have you been able to identify any accelerants or anything like that?
15:43I haven't.
15:44But we've only been here five minutes.
15:45Okay.
15:46That's fine then.
15:48We're quite used to going out to car fires,
15:51but obviously it's a bit of an anomaly
15:53having two incidents very close together.
15:57PC Foxall reports back to base.
16:00So we've got three cars completely burnt out
16:03and damaged to the third party's vehicle
16:07and potentially another vehicle.
16:08So we've got quite a few vehicles.
16:14The fire in the car at the front
16:15may have spread to a second car.
16:20There was no explanation as to why another car
16:22at the back of the house had been set alight.
16:26I'm just trying to liaise between fire and the victims.
16:32It's vital the police find as many clues as possible
16:35to try and identify who's done this.
16:39But with the cars being so badly damaged,
16:41it's not going to be easy.
16:43Can I just have a quick word here, Zach?
16:46Although it's the middle of the night,
16:48many residents have been woken up.
16:50Have you seen anything or heard anything?
16:52I had a sleep, heard the bangs and birds.
16:59And you thought it was fireworks, did you say?
17:01Yeah.
17:02The cars on the front were very close to a hedge,
17:07which is actually burnt.
17:08And obviously they had a big garden in the houses.
17:11So the first thing they thought was,
17:12is this going to set a fire to my house?
17:15And then what happened after that?
17:16I got up to have a look,
17:19because I could see the lights in my bedroom window.
17:22I could see that that car was on fire.
17:26Have you seen anything else over the last couple of days
17:27or anything suspicious or anything?
17:30Yeah.
17:31I got to make a try in the morning
17:32and I got to go back to my truck.
17:34Yeah.
17:34And I got a few stacked cars right there.
17:38They didn't have any rise.
17:40Would you be up for making a statement?
17:42Yeah.
17:43Yeah?
17:47Obviously Fire Brigade are doing their thing.
17:50Me and my colleague are just trying to get statements from everyone,
17:54figure out what's happened,
17:55seeing if anyone's found anything,
17:57and also speaking to neighbours,
17:58see if anyone has seen anything.
18:00The one round the back, you know,
18:02could have set houses, garages on fire.
18:04And I think people don't understand the danger
18:06that this can really cause.
18:09And the danger is not just from the fire itself.
18:14Yeah, I'm now into the sort of warmer weather in the summer.
18:17People probably have a lot of windows open.
18:19So, yeah, you do get an awful lot of toxic gases
18:22coming off of fires
18:24due to all the sort of man-made materials
18:27that they're made of these days.
18:31Thankfully, you know, if we're in the height of summer,
18:33that grass would quite easily run up in flames
18:35and burn the whole property
18:36and it could have killed someone very easily.
18:40Two of the cars belong to the same household.
18:43One that the police had been called to two nights before
18:46when a young female reported problems
18:49with a man hanging around and harassing her.
18:52And she said, like, he's exhibiting some sort of odd behaviours towards her,
18:56but she just wanted him to be told to clear off
18:58and now tonight all the cars to the property have been vandalised.
19:02The young woman tells the police she's received a number of voicemail messages,
19:14which she claims are from the man.
19:15Right, so what's the message you knew?
19:20Uh, just finding out now.
19:21Just trying to find out this other voicemail clip.
19:24When was the last message you had off him?
19:27The messages seem to suggest
19:28that the man may have been involved in some way with the fires.
19:34Why are we at Hotel 35?
19:37Thank you. Have we got any more units available to assist with this job?
19:42All the evidence and statements collected
19:47will be passed on to the Criminal Investigation Department.
19:51They will then work out
19:52if there's a strong enough case to press charges.
19:58At the moment, there's only two of us.
19:59We need to close the road off and create a scene.
20:01Obviously, we see I do. That's their advice.
20:04And we've also got some evidence to lead us to a suspect as well.
20:12These poor, poor victims, you know,
20:21who probably work and put their livelihoods
20:24into getting a nice car only for it to be burnt.
20:26We're getting lots of calls about an R2C.
20:45QR2, Foxtrot Hotel 25?
20:48Yes, yes, go ahead.
20:50The male you're with, has he got any obvious injuries?
20:52Getting lots of calls about an R2C.
20:54Reports are coming in of a road traffic accident
20:57in a rural area.
21:00Just over five minutes from the scene is PC Merchant.
21:04Reports that someone's been thrown from the vehicle
21:06and the driver of the other vehicle has run away.
21:12If you're thrown from a vehicle,
21:14it's probably quite a high impact.
21:16Were they wearing a seatbelt?
21:18Were they not wearing a seatbelt?
21:19So we're on route to an R2C.
21:33Reports that someone's been thrown from the vehicle
21:35and the driver of the other vehicle has run away.
21:42PC Merchant is heading to a road traffic accident
21:45in a rural area.
21:46I mean, if you're thrown from a vehicle,
21:51it's probably quite a high impact.
21:53Were they wearing a seatbelt?
21:54Were they not wearing a seatbelt?
21:57Initially, the reports came in
21:58that there could be someone seriously injured.
22:01So, of course, you try and get there
22:02as quickly as possible
22:03to try and save their life if needed.
22:06So we're going to go,
22:07first of all, make sure the person's OK
22:09that's been thrown from the vehicle.
22:10and then look for the person
22:14who decided that he doesn't want to hang around.
22:17PC Merchant isn't the only officer
22:18responding to the call.
22:21It's important to get as many units there as possible
22:23because then it means that one person
22:25can treat the...
22:26One person can treat the casualty
22:29and the others can go looking
22:32for the person who's run away
22:33to find out what they're hiding.
22:36Oscar Tango 6-1, State 6.
22:38As he arrives,
22:42a family member who's turned up to help
22:44is the first to greet him.
22:47Hey, are you OK?
22:48Who's the driver of this one?
22:54Who's the driver that's not longer around?
22:57So basically, this driver's on the set guard.
23:00There's another driver over there.
23:01Yeah.
23:02Two of them that need some attention
23:04is right here.
23:06In where? In here?
23:07They probably need some...
23:08They've got the biggest impact.
23:11Oh, OK.
23:12Especially the one in the front
23:13where she refuses to let anybody do it.
23:16Yeah, yeah.
23:19While PC Merchant tries to find out
23:21the extent of the female's injuries,
23:24the driver of the car hit by the van
23:26is giving his version of events
23:28to Rhodes Policing Officer Sergeant Gladwin.
23:31Just driving down here
23:33and he doesn't stop.
23:34He's just come straight across.
23:36It could have been any car
23:38along here.
23:41Travelling with the driver
23:42were his wife
23:43and the two women
23:44who've been injured.
23:47One of the ladies in the car
23:48is a Ukrainian lady
23:50whose daughter is staying with us
23:53as part of the homes for Ukraine.
23:55So she's going to school in Cheltenham
23:57and she comes over
23:58about every three to six months.
24:01So, you know,
24:03I feel sorry for her,
24:04really, anything else.
24:05So my wife
24:06has been doing a great job
24:07with all these Ukrainians
24:09and then we get hit like this.
24:13I mean, and then,
24:15well, I've obviously pulled a fast one on me,
24:16but what can you do?
24:17There's only so much you can do on the brakes there.
24:22And luckily, no one sees anything.
24:24So this is the vehicle
24:26that's been hit by the van
24:28and as you'll see from the near side,
24:31there is quite a lot of damage to it.
24:33The damage is mostly to the rear of the car
24:35and it's such a high impact
24:38that it's actually taking the wheel off the rear.
24:41A smaller vehicle,
24:43the car would possibly roll multiple times
24:45and you're looking at a lot,
24:48you're looking at different injuries
24:50from what we've got.
24:52But luckily, it's well built.
24:53It's protected the occupants in the vehicle,
24:54which is what the car is designed to do.
24:57Luckily, the occupants
24:59haven't been thrown from the vehicle
25:00is what was first reported
25:01and it looks like minor injury.
25:04However, they are injured.
25:06One of the women has complained of neck pain
25:08and is now being seen by paramedics
25:11on the ambulance that's arrived.
25:14So what impact does this have on you now?
25:17I don't know.
25:18I guess you need your car for getting around.
25:22Well, I do.
25:22I've got the golf clubs in the back.
25:23That's a major problem, isn't it?
25:25I'm sure they'll be damaged, won't they?
25:30Although the driver of the van has disappeared,
25:33he did leave his name and phone number.
25:35So...
25:36What's right, give me a ring?
25:37I'm just going to do it now,
25:38but let's have a look where they're coming back to.
25:41But when they call the van driver,
25:43there's no response.
25:45He gave his name to the other person,
25:48which does actually match the vehicle in question.
25:51He's also given a phone number.
25:52Now, that didn't come back to anything
25:54when we tried to call it,
25:55whether he's given a false phone number
25:56or whether it's just been taken down wrong.
25:58I'm open to judgment at the moment.
25:59It just raises our suspicions a little bit
26:01when someone decides to leave the scene
26:03before we get there.
26:05And it could be an innocent...
26:06It could genuinely have been an innocent thing
26:09that he thought,
26:10I've exchanged my details,
26:11I'll come and sort my van tomorrow.
26:14Even though the police
26:15haven't got the driver of the van,
26:17they will check everyone involved
26:19as a matter of routine.
26:21At any RTC, we'll do a roadside drink test.
26:24The insurance companies will ask for it anyway,
26:25and so we'll do that.
26:44The breath test of the driver
26:48whose car was hit is negative.
26:51But even with police searching the area,
26:53there is still no sign of the van driver.
26:55So the dog handler's just gone
26:58to see if he can locate them.
27:00We've also got another unit
27:01just doing an area search.
27:04They're relatively local,
27:06but it would take them a long time to get home.
27:09So hopefully we'll be able to intercept them
27:11and find out why they've decided
27:12to leave the scene with their van
27:14just left on the side of the road,
27:15badly damaged.
27:16You'd like to think that people's morals,
27:18they'd stay around and make sure
27:19everyone's okay before walking away.
27:22I'm just going to get recovery for the vehicles.
27:25At the junction where the crash happened,
27:29there are clear signs to slow drivers down.
27:32You've got warning signs up there
27:34saying there's a junction ahead
27:35and also change of speed limit to 50.
27:38This van, for some reason,
27:40hasn't stopped
27:41and has come straight out of the junction.
27:43So as you can see,
27:45it's unlit around here as well.
27:48So if you don't know the area,
27:50you've got to pay attention to the street signs.
27:52We won't get this in the city.
27:54You wouldn't see the stars.
27:55Look at that moon,
27:56it's lighting up the whole hill.
27:59Being where we are,
28:00literally in the middle of nowhere,
28:02we're not going to get a lot of
28:04evidential opportunities
28:05from any dash cam or any C3.
28:08So that makes it a little bit more challenging.
28:11Does he want me to take
28:35his golf clubs and art?
28:37Probably.
28:38Probably the most important.
28:39That's to be fair.
28:41The club's all right.
28:41The things you do for your parents.
28:56Stay.
28:59Stay.
29:00PC Smith has always teamed up
29:02with the same crewmate.
29:04Arnie.
29:07Yeah, he's got to be up there
29:08sort of like with the top crewmates
29:11that I've had.
29:14Being a dog handler,
29:15going into work,
29:16be your best mate,
29:18you know,
29:18you can patrol the county,
29:20you get called to some really,
29:22really good incidents,
29:23helping people
29:24and trying to make a difference as well.
29:26They're first job tonight
29:40is about a car in Gloucester,
29:43eight miles away.
29:46So our intention is to get that vehicle stopped.
29:49Oscar down to six weeks.
29:50Can I put ops out for a vehicle?
29:52That's AMPR in Gloucester, please.
29:56There's intel on that vehicle
29:58regarding drug drive
29:59and I don't think it's got any tax either.
30:03I don't know if anyone's available in Gloucester.
30:06Throughout that evening,
30:07the vehicle had been driving around Gloucester
30:10and the vehicle wasn't taxed
30:12and the intelligence was that
30:15the driver was driving the vehicle
30:17under the influence of drugs.
30:20The traffic sergeant is behind that car
30:23and he's activated our AMPR cameras
30:27and he's going to be putting a stop in.
30:33Sergeant Gladwin from the Roots Policing Unit
30:35was also on duty
30:36and the information was shared with him.
30:40Let the lights now.
30:41He's going to go left of the light now.
30:44Within minutes, the car is pulled over.
30:47The vehicle's been stopped.
30:49It's going to be seized for no tax.
30:53As PC Smith called it in,
30:56he's going to give Sergeant Gladwin backup.
31:01Just on a drug swipe.
31:02I'm waiting for the results for now
31:03to see what's come back from that.
31:04But the vehicle I've shown up
31:06has been untaxed since December last year.
31:10While they wait for the results of the drugs test,
31:13they also need to confirm who the driver is.
31:19As he doesn't have his license on him,
31:23the police are accessing the photo on file
31:26at the DVLA.
31:28Er, no, it doesn't, does it?
31:30A much bigger face on him than there is on here.
31:33Unless you've lost quite a lot of weight recently,
31:35I don't believe that's it.
31:36You have your driving license on him.
31:38That would make it a lot easier.
31:39How long is that picture for me?
31:39I don't know.
31:40Exactly.
31:41So what are you talking about?
31:42I could be a 10-year picture.
31:43It could well be.
31:44You don't know, so then do your fucking...
31:45Right.
31:45Yeah, he reacted in sort of such a way
31:49which was more abuse towards the police.
31:52What's your bank number?
31:53I've just said, 2700.
31:54What's your bank number?
31:562800.
31:57Do you have any ID that's got your photograph on?
31:59So, is that me or not?
32:01Well, no, we need to prove it is you
32:03because at the moment you could be anybody.
32:06Take a fingerprint from here.
32:08Now to confirm your identity.
32:09Do you agree to comply with that?
32:10Super.
32:11So we tried to identify him
32:13and, yeah, he wasn't sort of playing ball.
32:17He gave a name
32:18but we wanted to just, you know,
32:21confirm who he was.
32:23Yeah, because you can't know who you are.
32:25So you're committing an offence at the moment, I believe,
32:26by, firstly, by giving me the wrong details, I believe.
32:31So at the moment you're at risk of getting arrested.
32:32So, I've got my ID.
32:34Come on up.
32:34You're stalling it.
32:35You're stalling it.
32:36It feels like you're...
32:36I'm not stalling.
32:37Yes, you are.
32:38I'm telling the truth for...
32:39So you're not arresting me for something.
32:40I'm fine if you're telling the truth.
32:41That's fine.
32:41You get it?
32:42Yeah, but if you show me a picture...
32:43You get what I'm saying?
32:44...then I can confirm that, can't I?
32:46This could have been done about two minutes ago.
32:49I still need something to prove,
32:50like a debit card or something with your name on.
32:53Can you say debit card?
32:54Yeah.
32:55Yeah.
32:55I still don't believe in that.
32:56No.
32:58Because that picture just doesn't look like you.
33:02His identification is the least of his worries now.
33:06The result of the drug test has come through.
33:09What is it positive for?
33:10What?
33:11Cannabis.
33:11Cannabis.
33:11Cannabis.
33:11I'm going to do a section 23 search, JJ.
33:23As the driver is suspected of drug driving,
33:26they are going to search both him and his vehicle.
33:32You ain't gonna find shit.
33:33The vehicle's been stopped and seized on behalf of DVLA.
33:38And then the driver, the driver has been arrested for drug drive.
33:46You're cocky.
33:47You're cheeky.
33:49It's not just the driver's ID that's raising questions.
33:58There's a balaclava there as well.
34:00You're not the right person.
34:06I've got this.
34:07I've got this.
34:09I've got this.
34:10I've got that.
34:11Have you got anything on you to be aware of?
34:14You lot.
34:14Like, you individuals.
34:16You, you.
34:17Stop talking for a minute.
34:18It's hard, right?
34:19You, you.
34:19Just stop talking.
34:20You, you, you.
34:21Have you got anything on you that you need to be aware of?
34:23You actually, I'm suing the police because you got no road tax and you've been arrested for
34:29drug driving.
34:30Watch my balls.
34:33He doesn't like us.
34:35It's a bit of bravado, I think.
34:37He's probably been stopped a few times, which he's suggesting, and obviously that's our fault,
34:42not his fault.
34:43He forgets he's the one who's driving around with no tax and he's the one who's drug driving
34:47right now.
34:49He's gone off to cells, the blood's been sent off to a laboratory, and from there we'll
34:57be able to see how much, you know, what's in his system.
35:00Watch your head as you get in, okay?
35:01I'll support you.
35:02There we go.
35:03All right.
35:04We'll see you down there.
35:27We took his car off him on behalf of DVLA, and DVLA sent him a nice bill.
35:42Freezing what freezing late
35:45It's a busy night in Cheltenham town center and pieces Williamson and Gorton are on patrol
35:52You born on the Sun, you know that beautiful weather they were having Birmingham all the time
35:58I'll have you know 20 degrees in my back garden today. It's not exactly God's country
36:05Which is where
36:12Putting hazards on doesn't mean anything move. Give me a second mate
36:21While PC Gorton is asking a taxi driver to stop blocking the road
36:27PC Williamson gets a concerning tip-off from a passer-by
36:32I can help yeah
36:35This fella here is following this girl a lot. I'm putting his hands on there a lot
36:38So just wanted to let you know who's trying to go in the white top. Yeah white top and the girl in the gray dress
36:43Yeah, he's just been following a wall down the street and keeps grabbing up
36:56I can help
36:58Yeah
36:59This fella here is following this girl a lot. I'm putting his hands on there a lot
37:03In Cheltenham PC Williamson is being alerted to some concerning behavior
37:09Which one the guy in the white top? Yeah, white top and the girl in the gray dress
37:12Yeah, he's just been following a wall down the street and keeps grabbing up
37:15All right. Yeah, no, so my thank you first instinct is go over to that vehicle speak to the female see if she's okay
37:21Get her out of the car. I'll have a quick chat with you
37:25PC Williamson wants to make sure the woman is safe
37:28So needs to talk to her
37:31That's okay, you know in trouble just quit
37:34Do I need to stay with this fella? Yeah, that's all right. If you just come with me just quickly
37:41No, no, no, no, I'm not I'm not saying you were and it's not about the woman potentially driving that PC Williamson wants a word
37:49And to keep the conversation private
37:52PC Gorton make sure the man stays put
37:55What's your name, sir?
37:56All right fella just stay in the car for me mate. Come with me just for a second
37:58Well, she was a little bit obstructive. She didn't really want to talk to me. She was clearly intoxicated. I could smell the alcohol
38:05Someone's just flagged me down to say that
38:08Is that your fella? Yeah. Yeah, right. Okay. Someone was a little bit worried about you because they were saying that he was
38:13Stop following you down the street and just trying to grab you and stuff like that
38:17He's fine
38:18While PC Williamson talks to the girlfriend
38:21PC Gorton tries to find out from the man his side of the story
38:25Does anything happen that you want to tell me about what's going on?
38:29Okay, was there any reason why my colleagues going off to talk to your girlfriend? I don't know what's happened. All right
38:37You sure
38:39Absolutely fine. Has there been an argument? That's it?
38:41Yeah, there has been
38:42Right, okay. So you guys are just having a shot about it in the car?
38:45Right, okay.
38:46It happens every week
38:47Right, but he's never hurt you, nothing more?
38:50No, he's not like that. So you just get frustrated
38:54I'll piss him off
38:57My colleagues had to come over here
39:00So there you go, you've had an argument, okay, so something's happened, so we're duty bound to investigate
39:04I'm not doing anything mate
39:09I'm getting my face out
39:10At the moment, no
39:10At the moment, no
39:13I understand you're angry, I understand you're frustrated, I understand you're having a debate with your partner
39:18Don't take it out on me
39:19He just became belligerent and argumentative with me, verbally abusive and just genuinely obstructive
39:27Don't put your hands on me fellow, otherwise you are committing offence
39:29I don't know whether
39:30Anything else just happened? How many people have an argument?
39:32I don't know
39:33I don't have an argument with my partner
39:35I can't have a day off, I'm on duty working
39:38Sure, as a taxpayer, you wouldn't want me to have a day off
39:40I'm working
39:41Don't call me a sausage
39:42I'm not being rude or disrespectful towards you, am I?
39:44You're a beautiful person's face
39:46No, I'm not, I'm stood here, you're the one walking round
39:48Don't swear at me, otherwise I'll arrest you
39:50As a police, we're expected to take abuse off members of the public
39:54We're expected to take a level of abuse and accept it as though it's a part of our everyday job
40:00I disagree, I'm a member of the public at the end of the day
40:03Alright, thank you, I accept your apology, your apology is accepted, that's all you need to understand
40:09No, I'm not
40:10And I expect, I expect emotions from you
40:13Alright, swear at me one more time, mate, and I will arrest you
40:16For what?
40:17Well, you're in a public place, you're intoxicated
40:19For what?
40:19You're using foul and abusive language
40:21You are being drunk and disorderly
40:23Well, can you go away then, please?
40:24No, not until I've established my colleague is okay and that female is safe
40:28My girlfriend, mate
40:29Well, I appreciate your girlfriend, but, you know, unfortunately most murders are committed by people who know each other, including people in relationships
40:34I'm stressed
40:36Alright
40:40Take your girlfriend's advice, get back in the car and stop it
40:43I'm going to mess with criminals, mate
40:45You're telling me to go be all criminals
40:47Well, I've got to stand here and listen to your verbal
40:49You abuse me
40:49Just go and have a fucking...
40:51Are there any offences?
40:52No, she won't go
40:52Alright
40:53Good night job
40:54Standard verbals
40:56So they've had an argument, they've come to sit in the car and talk about it
41:00Rather than argue in public
41:02Um, she's said he's never hurt me anything like that
41:04No physical injuries to her
41:07Um, she said
41:08We're quite happy to leave them two together at the moment
41:10Yeah, at the moment
41:11Yeah, okay, cool
41:13What does he say to you?
41:14Oh, apparently I'm a sausage
41:16Apparently I should go out and catch criminals
41:20I mean, he ain't wrong about the sausage business, but I don't do anything
41:27It just turns out that it was a Barney
41:29And they've gone somewhere private to have that Barney
41:33But yeah, when I went up to the window, she was literally
41:35She weren't sat like this, she was sat sideways on
41:37Yeah, I mean, you could see the keys weren't needed
41:39Yeah, you know, so I weren't going to be horrible and have her for in charge
41:44The fact that, you know, we are professionally nosy
41:46That's our point, that's our purpose
41:49We don't get the answers if we don't ask the questions
41:51I'd rather her be safe and I don't need to do anything
41:53Than, you know, she's in danger and I just ignored it
41:59Not far away at one of the clubs in Cheltenham
42:06Officers are dealing with the aftermath of a fight
42:09One man has been kicking off to door staff
42:19So the police have been called and are putting him in the van in the hope that he'll simmer down
42:23I really enjoy calming suspects down, I'll talk in a really nice tone even if they're shouting at me
42:49Why are you fucking, mate, chill out
42:51I don't like to shout, I don't like to raise my voice, I don't like my heart rate getting over a certain number
42:56Um, so I'll very much just calmly communicate with them until they're at the same level as me
43:01All right mate, you all right, just calm down for a second, all right, we'll just chill out
43:08Of course, sometimes it doesn't go, go that well
43:10Listen
43:11This time PC Cahill's dulcet tones haven't worked so the police are left with no alternative
43:19It's 20 past, you're under arrest for being drunk and sorely
43:21The man is off to custody and will be staying there till he sobers out
43:27But he's not the only person out tonight that's getting carried away by the police
43:31What do you want?
43:32I'm doing me, you can let's put pinch your bun
43:34No
43:34I'm sorry
43:35Sorry
43:37I'm too far
43:38You can burn the rest
