Newcastle United lose late on against Liverpool in emotionally-charged match

00:00Newcastle United conceded a late goal against Liverpool to lose the match 3-2,

00:05despite the Magpies having come back from 2-0 down to level the game with 10 men.

00:10Yeah, very mixed feelings, I think.

00:13I thought it was a great performance from us.

00:16Wasn't perfect, of course, but it was very good in the first half, very dominant,

00:21very us, really, high-octane, front-foot football.

00:26The only thing missing in that really strong start to the game or middle period of the first half was goals.

00:33Conceded a poor goal, first time in the game, really, where we're not quite aggressive enough.

00:39And then the second half was, of course, a very different game, a very different plan,

00:42but really well executed by the players in spite of the fact we went 2-0 down

00:46and right at the start of the second half, massive challenge for us.

00:50So I can't fault the players at all.

00:53I thought they gave so much to the game.

00:56Absolutely gutted for them that we have nothing to take from it.

01:00I've not been party to talks on this for a long time now,

01:04so I've been preparing the team, giving all my energy to the players that want to play for Newcastle.

01:08I think that's where my energy is best put at the moment.

01:13And Sunderland were left disappointed

01:15as they were defeated away from home against Burnley by two goals to nil.

01:20I'm disappointed because I think we started well.

01:28Our first half was positive.

01:30We created two chances and we were in our game plan.

01:35I think we dominated this first half.

01:37But at the beginning of the second one,

01:41we made a small mistake and then proceeded this goal.

01:48And after that, the game changed completely.

01:50They dropped into their back five, four, one,

01:54deep, well-organized, aggressive block.

01:56And we struggled to find the good tempo, the good rhythm to create chances.

02:05And in that situation, when you are a bit,

02:10not sloppy, but not accurate enough.

02:14We're going to be able to find the good tempo.
