The connection between Rolls-Royce and the world of popular music is almost as old as the recording industry itself. Long before icons like John Lennon, Elvis Presley and Pharrell Williams wrote themselves into Phantom’s story, artists including Duke Ellington, Fred Astaire, Count Basie, Ravi Shankar, Edith Piaf and Sam Cooke all travelled by Rolls-Royce, recognising the brand as the definitive symbol of success and artistry.
Of all models, Phantom – the pinnacle of the marque - is the Rolls-Royce most closely associated with the world of music. Over eight generations and 100 years – a centenary the nameplate celebrates in 2025 – this extraordinary motor car has been consistently chosen by some of the most creative and influential figures in musical history. Phantom’s appeal to these individuals endures; it retains its status as the world’s pre-eminent luxury product, comprised of the very best in engineering excellence, fine materials and exquisite, highly skilled craftsmanship. It also offers its owner the freedom to define their identity – a quality that has helped many Phantoms owned by musical luminaries achieve legendary status in their own right.

00:00Today we are here celebrating 100 years of Phantom. It's our pinnacle motor car
00:04and of course in a hundred years we've got a lot of history and we thought we
00:08would relive some of that history today. I'm originally from Barrowing Furness
00:11which has a lot of industrial heritage and mainly in shipbuilding so as a
00:16youngster as I was used to seeing ships launch it's been a whole new experience
00:20to me today seeing a Rolls-Royce Phantom our pinnacle motor car be launched into
00:26this swimming pool here in the Lido so I thought what better place to come
00:30re-experience my childhood albeit ever so slightly differently. As the general
00:35manager interior trim I'm normally at the plant leading a team of 500 people
00:39pushing the boundaries when it comes to creativity and craftsmanship but of
00:43course today I'm here overseeing this logistical operation which is a great
00:47experience for me. The Tinside Lido was the right location for this because it's
00:52also got a history in music it's a fantastic art decor building there's a
00:57great view of the sea and the Beatles were actually here in 1967 they got a
01:02picture up on the hoe and it's got this Lido in the background and we thought what
01:06a perfect setting to recreate this story. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is so
01:11significant because it's the pinnacle motor car it is luxury it's excellent
01:18engineering it's craftsmanship all rolled into one it's a huge canvas for
01:23creativity. I've been at Rolls-Royce motor cars for 13 years now and very early
01:28on in my career I spent my time working on the assembly line and more specifically
01:33the Phantom line and it's got a very therefore a special place in my heart and
01:39as I was part of the team that actually ran out the Phantom 7 and implemented the
01:45Phantom 8 into our production line and therefore yeah it definitely has a
01:49special place in my heart. When we think about the Phantom as a canvas for
01:53creativity that's essentially what my team do you know it's incredible
01:59craftsmanship we're developing we're manufacturing we're embroidering various
02:05canvases in the car we're painting canvases in the car we really are creating a
02:09masterpiece for the client. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is the motor car of choice
02:13yeah for many in the music industry and it has been for our entire 100 years yeah
02:18so we're talking Elvis Presley we're talking Sorrell and John we're talking
02:22Pharrell Williams it just never ceases to be the motor car of choice that's the
02:26one rock and roll all the way through to jazz all the way through to R&B
